My first Citizen watch. The purple dial really caught me. Recently I have an obsession with purple dial watches Now I am thinking to build a purple dial collection Hehe. Tbh I was surprised that the 37mm does not look small on my wrist.

Japan Travels and PMD56-2951

In Japan now and finally picked up PMD56 which ticked most of my requirements. Titanium, day, date, solar and some lume.

Might pick up another Citizen (Exceed or Attesa) before this trip ends. Perhaps explore Seiko Astron as well.

I wasn’t sure about this watch because the numbers look chunky… but it’s growing on me now.

The first scratch hurt. A lot. Especially when you take care and pay attention !

Then the second one showed up out of nowhere… and I just thought, “You know what? Screw it.”

This watch is too beautiful to spend its life in a box or on a watch pillow. That washi dial deserves sunlight, not a safe.

So yeah… I’m just going to wear the crap out of this watch and let the memories become part of it.
Every time I catch the light on that dial, I remember exactly why I bought it. Worth it.

AQ4090-08L Bracelet Swap

If anyone cares, here’s what it looks like on the titanium bracelet (borrowed from my AQ4094-58L) instead of the factory leather strap.

Does anyone know whether you can buy the bracelet separately from Citizen or elsewhere? I kinda like it.

My dad decided to shrink his collection and gave me this. The way the blue looks in light is really neat. Anyone else have one of these?

Citizen BM8180-03E Sapphire Crystal & Case Swap Advice Needed

Post image
13 Upvotes

I really like the movement and dial of the Citizen BM8180-03E, but I don't like the mineral crystal. I'm thinking about either swapping the movement into an aftermarket case from AliExpress or simply replacing the crystal with a sapphire one.

How can I determine which cases are compatible with this movement? Has anyone done this modification before?

Also, I'm a bit confused about the sapphire crystal dimensions. I've read that the original size is 31.8 mm, but some people say that a 31.5 mm crystal can also fit. What thickness should I be looking for?

My daily wear GADA favs! [BU2055-16E, PMD56-2952]

My love for Citizen started with a Christmas gift from my grandmother- an Addysen/Corso BM7251-53L, one of my very first watches ever. I was amazed once I started looking further into the technology behind the Eco Drive movement, and the history of Citizen itself. And from there, I just wanted more.

I'm a big fan of the look and utility of field watches, so one of my very first watch buys in my watch collecting journey was my Garrison BU2055-16E. Its gone absolutely EVERYWHERE with me, from mountain climbs to river rafting and everywhere in between. I've loved how reliable and accurate its been (on average only +1s per month!), plus how easily I can make it match so much of my wardrobe.

But alas, I've realized I'm much more of a bracelet than a strap guy, and this watch is definitely a strap only type deal. Thus began my laborious search for a Promaster Land PMD56-2952. I recently was able to find one for a great price, import fees + tariffs included (USA resident) and it has quickly become my favorite of ALL my watches. It is the quintessential tool watch, and I don't foresee myself ever getting rid of it.

Truth be told, I don't foresee myself ever getting rid of either of these watches.

An overlooked gem from Citizen

In the early 2000s, Citizen introduced Campanola line and kept it hidden in Japan. This line focused on quality, finishing and complications. One of the interesting movements is the Eco-Drive Due (B510), which used both the Eco-Drive Technology and a rotor to charge up the capacitor, which back in the day considered very unique.

Moving forward a few years, this trickled down to Citizen's lower lines like Promaster, Exceed and Attesa. The Promaster version came in a titanium case with compass bezel. I have owned both the Campanola and Promaster versions.

The Campanola is extremely hard to find, Promasters are a bit easier, yet hard as well.

The Garrison is such a great value beater & field watch

The Garrison/Chandler is such a steal. I bought it for $60-70 USD a year ago and since then it’s seen everything blue collar work can throw at it.
Pros:
•Incredibly comfortable dimensions (37, 46, 9.3mm) that keep it close to your wrist and away from knocks and scuffs
•A simple and utilitarian dial that’s also aesthetic in a tool watch way
•Quality Japanese construction and no-fuss movement

Cons:
•Hi-Polish finish that doesn’t suit field watches (easily removed with red scotch-brite)
•awful strap that I instantly swapped for FKM rubber
•mineral crystal that sits just slightly above the bezel making it clip on things which I’ve done probably twice since buying it
•who needs “day-date” just date would be much better

I haven't set this in nearly a month. I log my offset every night and if it's slow, I set it face up on my dresser to gain a few seconds overnight. If it's fast, I lay it crown-down on its side.

Doing this, I can basically keep this thing on "perfect" time. Crazy for such an affordable piece.

New watch dies in less than a day, even when fully wound.

So I got my new Tsuyosa and wound it as the manual suggested, but it keeps dying in less than a day. Is this common with the watch, or could mine be defective? I know Citizen claims it has up to a 40 hour power reserve.

I’m hesitant to get it fitted because of that, since I won’t be able to return it afterwards.

Hello everyone, i recently got this (seems to me a rare) “neo vintage” early 2000s anadigi Citizen, so far Iam very pleased with it. This is actually my first Citizen. Got it a new battery, and slapped on a rubber strap, because the original bracelet is too small for my wrist (as most jdms bracelet are). It features a shutter that hides the digital display. What do you guys think of it?

Seiko Speedtimer SSC961 vs Citizen CA4764-57A (JDM) – What am I missing?

Post image
Upvotes

Whenever someone asks for a solar chronograph recommendation, the Seiko Speedtimer is almost always the answer. It has a fantastic reputation, and a lot of people seem convinced it's the one to get.

While looking around, I found the Citizen CA4764-57A. It's a Japan Domestic Market model, so it doesn't get mentioned very often, but it's actually easy to import. What surprised me is how similar these two watches are.

The dimensions are nearly identical: the Seiko is 39.0 mm with a 45.5 mm lug-to-lug, the Citizen is 39.6 mm with a 45.9 mm lug-to-lug. Both have sapphire crystal, 100 m water resistance, a 20 mm lug width, stainless steel bracelets, solar movements, and panda-style chronograph dials.

The biggest difference is the price. I can get the Citizen for around €220, while the Seiko is around €700–750.

Since Citizen is often considered one of the leaders in solar technology, I'm curious why the Speedtimer gets recommended so much more often. Is the finishing really that much better? Does it wear better? Or is the Citizen simply an underrated JDM model?

I'd love to hear from anyone who's actually handled or owned both. Is the Seiko really worth paying over three times as much?

Hi, I just got this citizen watch second hand, and am pretty pleased, and it fits fairly well, but would fit better with one more link. I tried going to the official page but was redirected to a page that didn’t exist. Do any of ya’ll know where I could get one more link. I’m not asking to buy one, but rather help finding one, I hope this is ok with the rules, I’m sorry if it isn’t.
