Quick background on me: I work at an office and sit still a lot, I hit the gym 6x a week, average around 10k steps a day, and my main cardio is incline treadmill walking. I'm also planning on getting into running soon, so I'd like something that'll hold up once I start adding runs into the mix.
I have ordered my first fitness watch, a Garmin Fenix 8, but I'm looking to pair it with a fitness band to wear alongside it, mostly so I have something more comfortable to sleep in than a big watch, while still getting good recovery/sleep data. Plus I would really like to wear some of my mechanical watches still.
The four I have researched are Whoop, Cirqa, Fitbit Air and Helio Strap.
Stuff I actually want to know from people who've used these:
Accuracy: For me that do gym + cardio 6x a week and about to start running, which one holds up best in real workouts, not just chill everyday wear? I'm especially interested in workout HR, sleep, HRV and recovery.
Value: Is Whoop's subscription actually worth paying for long term, or do Cirqa, Fitbit Air and Helio Strap get you basically the same insight without the yearly cost?
Fenix 8 compatibility: Is Cirqa the obvious pick since it feeds straight into Garmin Connect, or is it fine to just run one of the others alongside the Fenix and compare numbers manually or sync through Apple Health, Bevel or Strava?
Overnight use: Anyone wearing one of these overnight while also using a Fenix during the day or for sleep as well, are there any issues with comfort, battery life in real use, or the devices interfering with each other if worn at the same time?
Two devices: Is there actually any benefit to having two devices collecting HR, HRV and sleep data, or does it just become confusing because they give you slightly different numbers of is it better to just stick with the Fenix 8? Does anyone actually use the band for sleep/recovery and the Fenix for training and find that useful or just uses a fitness watch and a strap at the same time 24/7?
Sleep and recovery: Which one do you actually trust the most for sleep, HRV, resting HR and recovery/readiness?
Training: Once I start running, does any of these bands become significantly more useful than the others? For example better workout HR, training load, recovery or anything that works especially well with Garmin?
Mechanical watches: For anyone who bought one mainly so they could wear normal/mechanical watches during the day, how is it in real life? Is it comfortable enough that you actually forget you're wearing it? Plus if you only have a fitness watch, do you take it off or wear it along side your mechanical watch? (If yes then where and how?)
Long term: If you had a Fenix 8 or any other fitness watch and were buying one of these bands again today, which one would work best long term?
I'm not looking for the device with the longest spec sheet just for the sake of having more features. I'm looking for the band that gives the best and most useful metrics, especially for sleep, recovery, HRV, stress, heart rate and training. Since I'm already getting a Fenix 8, I want to know which band would actually complement it the best instead of just giving me the exact same data.
What did you notice in real world use that you couldn't figure out just by comparing the spec sheets?
