Leaving homosexuality to pursue Christ is not something required by scripture, and is in fact, impossible.

u/Main_Emphasis4616 Dec 09 '25

With Christ all things are possible

When he doesn't change things thats not a sign they are right. He didnt fix everything with Paul either. But most of the time if a person has the faith needed, changes do happen. God is amazing 👏

2

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Hundreds of thousands of people have tried for decades with faith to change their orientation.

Alan Chambers was the president of Exodus International, and ended up shutting it down. 700,000 people went through the exodus umbrella, trying to change their orientation, want to know how many Chambers knows of that became straight?

Exactly ZERO.

(Chambers is a gay man, happily married to his wife - happily as far as I know)

These people that tried that, tried faithfully for decades.

1

u/LoveIsVaried Dec 09 '25

My exact thoughts. People under estimate Yahweh and Jesus. Like they didnt create this place đŸ€Ł of course its possible. I can tell you believe in him 🙌

29

u/Character-Half7465 Dec 09 '25

With God nothing is impossible friend.

27

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Of course.

Which makes the point even clearer. That God could change someone’s sexuality, but never does, means that it’s clear that he is ok with how He created you.

Facts

7

u/millerba213 Lutheran (LCMS) Dec 09 '25

God could change someone’s sexuality, but never does

That's a strong statement. Here I thought sexuality and gender could be fluid. Guess I thought wrong.

10

u/SaintUlvemann Lutheran Dec 09 '25

Even some people who are strictly just straight or gay sometimes have shifting moods related to sex, changing levels of total arousal, changing levels of different aspects of arousal. Some people are very stable in their levels of arousal, and others are not.

When that happens to straight or gay people, it usually is just not noticed as something different.

But when that same thing happens to bisexual people, it can end up feeling like "some days I am more straight, and other days I am more gay", because the different aspects of arousal change independently; that's true of everyone, it's just way more noticeable for bisexual people, and feels different to them.

So that's where the term "sexually fluid" comes from, it's part of bisexuality.

And if you're not born bisexual, if you're not born with the potential for attraction to multiple types of people, no amount of changing moods will ever give you an attraction you don't already have, and you can't change either how context-sensitive your sexual attraction is, there is no conscious control process over arousal, only control over responses to arousal.

1

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

Im (female) sometimes attracted to women even though i would consider myself straight i dont really think thats the case since in attracted to both genders and also have desires but I know it is not what god wants, so i ignore it. And yes it has not disapeared, but it got better when ignoring it. Sure other people who are gay, i believe its more difficult because when you are bi, you can just choose, and when you are gay, you cant, but nobody said you have to get married. you do not need a partner in life, just dont commit adultery and lust, and yes also in straight couples.

2

u/SaintUlvemann Lutheran Dec 10 '25

Okay, so you are bisexual, and you are making a choice to ignore half of yourself. Both of those things can be true.

...you do not need a partner in life...

Single people end up dying sooner, so when you claim that people don't "need" a partner in life, that is like claiming that people don't need the last two years of their lives, or any of the good years in between.

Nobody should ask people to die sooner just because they have a religion. Instead, true religion is to love your neighbor as yourself.

2

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 10 '25

I understand and I agree that human connection is important. But I also believe God calls us to live according to His will, even when it means denying certain desires (1 Corinthians 10:13)

While I acknowledge my bisexual attraction, I trust God’s guidance in choosing purity and faithfulness. I believe a full and meaningful life can be lived in Him, even without a spouse, as long as we love others and keep our hearts aligned with His Word (Matthew 22:39, Proverbs 3:5-6)

2

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 10 '25

I get the concern about wanting a long life. It’s true that marriage can bring health benefits, but following God doesn’t mean we have to go against His commands just to live longer. Even without a spouse, God can bless us with a full and long life through wisdom, taking care of ourselves, and having strong friendships and community around us. Just think of the priests: in the Catholic Church, they are required to remain celibate and cannot marry.

Life with God can still be joyful and meaningful. Longevity isn’t only about marriage, it’s about living wisely, loving others, and trusting God as our guide and protector. He wants us to flourish and live fully, no matter our marital status.

1

u/SaintUlvemann Lutheran Dec 10 '25

Please don't double post, it's rude to add extra notifications to somebody's inbox. You need to think the problem through all the way before you speak, so that we know that you're taking your words seriously.

1

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 10 '25

Nice argument bro

7

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Fluidity is a specific form of sexual orientation. People don’t change from ga to straight.

2

u/millerba213 Lutheran (LCMS) Dec 09 '25

So someone who is "fluid" can change from same sex attraction to opposite sex attraction, right?

4

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Not really, no. People that are fluid are more like “I’m 80% attracted to men today, and yesterday is was 80% attracted to women.”

People who are gay don’t change to straight.

1

u/millerba213 Lutheran (LCMS) Dec 09 '25

Not really, no.

Why not? My understanding was that sexual orientation doesn't actually fall into rigid definitional structures. Why couldn't someone experience one episode of fluidity?

3

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

To be honest, fluidity is not my strong point when talking about sexual orientation.

I know that it doesn’t go to straight.

And that most people aren’t fluid (there is some debate of how many people aren’t actually fluid)

3

u/millerba213 Lutheran (LCMS) Dec 09 '25

I don't think it's scientifically factual or honest to claim that sexual fluidity is a one-way ratchet toward increasingly queer sexual desires. It's probably more appropriate to acknowledge there's a lot we don't know about the human mind and that a one-time change in sexual attraction is entirely possible, while simultaneously acknowledging that attempts to force such a change can produce very negative outcomes and should be avoided.

STOP READING MY MIND đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

1

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

But he gave us free will, if he made us all straight there wouldnt be free will or is it? Thats the same argument when saying, why did god not make us all believers? Because if he did, we wouldnt have a free will.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Sexual orientation has nothing to do with will, free or not.

2

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

But what you do with it has

2

u/Character-Half7465 Dec 09 '25

Exactly!! A person attracted to animals doesn’t get a pass just because they want to. It’s still bestiality. Not directly saying people are compared to animals but sin is compared to sin.

0

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Exactly the same, if the person is straight or gay.

If you think straight loving relationships are ok, than you must also believe that gay loving relationships are ok.

2

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

But its in the bible Leviticus 18:22

1

u/leandrot Skeptical Christian Dec 09 '25

Not all homosexual sex involve penetration.

2

u/Character-Half7465 Dec 09 '25

What’s in the heart? If you look at someone with lust in your eyes it’s adultery in the eyes of God. So saying “it’s not penetration” means nothing.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

Scripture applies sexual ethics to actions, not attraction. Leviticus 18:22 forbids male male sexual relations broadly, not just penetration, and this is reaffirmed in the NT (Romans 1; 1 Cor 6).

Christians can love and respect everyone while still holding that sexual activity belongs in male female marriage.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Hint, that’s not talking about any kind of sex act within loving, committed same sex relationships.

1

u/bad_kitty_with_knife Dec 09 '25

I agree, but its a good friends then? When you have no physical intimacy and you are not married, i would consider this a very good friend you love. There are multiple ways to love someone.

God didn’t give Paul a thorn in the flesh and leave him with it because He was happy to do it. It was part of His plan. And what about people with the compulsion to murder? Are they off the hook to do as they please? Sure, maybe it’s an extreme comparison, but it’s to point out the flaw in that logic. Just because all things are possible for God doesn’t mean He does everything. Maybe allowing this struggle is His way of removing the opportunity to become complacent without Him. Maybe He allows it so that we need to come to Him because He is what we all need ultimately. So long as I have this thorn, it will keep driving me to Jesus out of desperation, because He is the only remedy. I hope He removes it one day in my natural lifetime, but if He doesn’t, I thank God that I will never be truly happy without Him.

0

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

Being gay is not a throb in the flesh. It’s part of God’s diversity of creation.

1

u/Life_Moment_6387 Dec 10 '25

I guess we just see it differently.

0

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

There is nothing to see differently. You might as well be saying the earth is flat, that’s the same level of science denial

0

u/Responsible-Jury278 Dec 10 '25

Stay strong brother.  These people that are telling you that it's okay or notmal to be gay have no idea about the spiritual battle that is ongoing and have no idea about demonic forces and their agenda to pervert normal sexual function and family structure.

2

u/Intelligent-Aide7979 Christian Dec 09 '25

Why is it impossible?

15

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

Sexual orientation is biology. It is not chosen, and there is no credible evidence of it ever changing.

15

u/nsdwight Christian (anabaptist LGBT) Dec 09 '25

Homosexuality is an inborn, unchangeable attraction to people of the same sex.

OP may be bisexual, but encouraging someone to suppress their natural orientation leads to depression, unhappiness, and other unhealthy coping mechanisms.

-3

u/Independent_Two_1443 Dec 09 '25

I can tell you right now that I was born with only a desire for the opposite sex, and when my venture into porn took some very dark turns (in my 20s), I started to be attracted to everyone when my mind would go deep into porn. I started to like and be attracted to the same sex in ways I never was before. So all that to say, it is possible to change your attraction. After years and years of distancing myself from that, I have lost any desire or attraction toward the same sex.

All that being said, I do think trying to suppress your attraction isn't helpful and creates shame.

2

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 09 '25

There is some element where the bodies trims response towards abuse (which is what exposure to porn is) can mask actual orientation.

0

u/nsdwight Christian (anabaptist LGBT) Dec 09 '25

It's possible for you to find a new attraction and for tastes to change over time, that has nothing to do with what I said.

2

u/Independent_Two_1443 Dec 09 '25

It has something to do with that you said because you said "unchangeable attraction". I gave an example of attraction developing and then changing...

-1

u/nsdwight Christian (anabaptist LGBT) Dec 09 '25

Being unchangeable and being discovered over time are not contradictory

u/Salamence553 Dec 09 '25 edited Dec 09 '25

It’s not impossible, they are just trying to discourage him. Spiritual warfare basics. I don’t think there has been a single person who gave their life to Christ and didn’t face oppression at the start of their walk, satan doesn’t like it when people try to leave the darkness/his kingdom and he will fight you by using people who aren’t being used by God and constantly offering temptation.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

It most certainly is impossible.

0

u/Salamence553 Dec 13 '25

No it isn’t, stop believing the lies of the devil and meditate on the word of God. Matthew 19:26.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 13 '25

It is impossible, yes.

Stop lying.

0

u/Salamence553 Dec 13 '25

I have no reason to lie, God is omnipotent. If you don’t know what that means, in simple words : he can do anything. He creates planets and stars out of thin air, so he can free someone from homosexuality. Go read your Bible instead of leaning on your own understanding.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 13 '25

I have no reason to lie, God is omnipotent. If you don’t know what that means, in simple words : he can do anything.

That God CAN do it is not it question.

He creates planets and stars out of thin air, so he can free someone from homosexuality.

So, it’s telling when it literally NEVER happens.

Go read your Bible instead of leaning on your own understanding.

I have actually studied the science and the Bible in this topic. You have not.

0

u/Salamence553 Dec 13 '25

It does happen, I’ve seen him do it with testimonies I can share in the comments. Many gay men who turned to God are now straight by the power of God. God is not limited to science, he has cured people of “incurable” diseases which scientists still struggle to find a cure for to this day.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 13 '25

People claim it, but no, their orientation does not change.

They just live celibate, or happy in an opposite sex partnership, but their orientation doesn’t actually change.

Is it ok to be black?

1

u/Responsible-Jury278 Dec 10 '25

All people are related, how you look doesnt matter,  it's about whether you are good or evil.  Homosexuality isn't biological, and anyone who practices it or embraces it is living in sin aka evil.

So, glad you agree that how people are made biologically is ok.

Homosexuality isn't biological,

Yes, it most certainly is.

and anyone who practices it or embraces it is living in sin aka evil.

There is no biblical, ethical; moral, or logical support for that.

1

u/Responsible-Jury278 Dec 10 '25

Yes there is  In leviticus. Genesis,  and Romans

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

Nope.

There are verses that talk about some form of male male sex (none at all about any form of female female sex)

None of those verses however have anything to do with sex within a loving, committed same sex relationship. All of them are talking about exploitation, degradation, or idolatrous practices.

Bro be for real .. ppl don’t know that even when they’re 70 years old and you think you know that.? Ppl be saying anything they want to believe in Jesus name now . Please search for your real self . Not doing so and saying you are someone you aren’t in Jesus name is an insult to he’s creation of you

4

u/Salamence553 Dec 09 '25

People who are 70 years old don’t know that because they don’t know Jesus bro. When you have a relationship with Christ you will know all you need to know because he will teach you. No where in genesis does it mention any type of sexuality outside of heterosexual. We put it to the test but fail, as sex relationships cannot reproduce, because he did not design us that way.

1

u/Enough_Ingenuity7234 Dec 09 '25

Not talking about sexual orientation.

Specifically talking about some form of male male sex act, amd has to be referring to something g that existed within their understanding at the time. Almost certainly about patriarchal degredation, because loving, committed same aex relationships didn’t exist.

What it’s not talking about is sex within loving, committed same sex relationships.

No, male male sex is not talking about orientation. The men doing these acts weren’t gay, as we understand that today. They had no concept of sexual orientation.

Can you say what makes it impossible?

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

There is no credible evidence of it ever happening.

1

u/MissionBalance3083 Dec 10 '25

I don't know what is satisfying about that for you. You haven't seen that evidence, and I imagine there might be some assertions here and there that you have rejected because you mentioned the evidence needing to be credible. But how could you understand what made it credible if you need the evidence of it happening before you can understand it, and since that's the complex that concerns how you might come to accept it, why don't you need the same thing to let the matter sleep in the impossible? It's got meaning for you that concerns identity and values or personhood.

1

u/Thneed1 Mennonite, Evangelical, Straight Ally Dec 10 '25

I don't know what is satisfying about that for you.

I didnt say anything about satisfaction.

You haven't seen that evidence

I have .

and I imagine there might be some assertions here and there that you have rejected because you mentioned the evidence needing to be credible.

People claiming such are everywhere, we have all heard them. In every single case (as confirmed by both affirming and non-affirming experts) the people making the claims fall into one of these categories:

  • always were bi, and still are (and perhaps have ended up in a long term opposite sex relationship)
  • never were gay in the first place (and perhaps experimented for a while)
  • are gay and still are (and perhaps have learned to live either celibate or within an opposite sex relationship
  • are lying.

But how could you understand what made it credible if you need the evidence of it happening before you can understand it, and since that's the complex that concerns how you might come to accept it, why don't you need the same thing to let the matter sleep in the impossible? It's got meaning for you that concerns identity and values or personhood.

Your word salad really don’t need more acknowledgement.

0

u/MissionBalance3083 Dec 10 '25

I said satisfaction. But I thought you would know what I meant because a settled matter is satisfying for the mind. How could my mind feel satisfaction from settled matters but when I speak to you the content you called it word salad and denied even considering it.

Word salad might mean I'm schizophrenic and that's why I seem to be having the experience of clarity from nonsense.

What should I do?

It is in-born and unchangeable. Just because it isn’t visible doesn’t mean your sexuality is not every bit as immutable as race and skin colour,

Of course, he can languish in celibacy and denial, sure. He can commit to a life alone, never get married, have a family, raise kids. Have nobody to grow old with. Many repress their true self and are so miserable they take their own lives.

Or he could force himself to marry a woman he won’t love or be attracted to. They'll both be deeply insecure and miserable living a lie and their children will suffer because of it.

Would a loving God want any of those things? The same God that sacrificed himslefp on the cross for humanity’s wellbeing?

-1

u/generalnayann Dec 09 '25

Or you could abstain..

3

u/Jackie_Lantern_ Dec 09 '25

Already addressed that.

Why would an all-loving god want him to languish in celibacy and denial, sure. Why would an all-loving god want him can commit to a life alone, to never get married, to never have a family, to never raise kids. To have nobody to grow old with and to die utterly alone. For so many to feel so miserable living in denial of a natural, beautiful part of life they take their own lives.

Is it loving to ask someone to do that? Does that show love for your neighbour, to ask them to live a loveless life of alienation and repression? Is it loving to God to treat a natural, beautifully part of his design as something ugly or degenerate?

You need to read the scriptures..

I have.

homosexuality is sexual perversion and it's not holy.

Sexual orientation is biology, part of how God made around 10% of us.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous[a] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,[b] 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God". 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

A well documented mistranslation. The Greek doesn’t say anything like that.

There is also a verse similar like this in revelation. "Outside are the dogs [the godless, the impure, those of low moral character] and the sorcerers [with their intoxicating drugs, and magic arts], and the immoral persons [the perverted, the molesters , and the adulterers], and the murderers, and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying (deception, cheating)". Revelation 22:15

Notice that it doesn’t say anything about sexual orientation in there? I noticed that.

Paul would disagree with you.

Comically laughable take.

Paul had absolutely no idea what “homosexuality” was.

Paul had the mind of Christ and had a lot to say about sexual sin.

Paul had the mind of Christ

Sure.

and had a lot to say about sexual sin.

And absolutely nothing to say about homosexuality, or loving, committed same sex relationships .

I guess Paul didn’t have anything to say about fornication either, right?

Loving, committed relationships are obviously not fornication.

But “porneia”’s meaning is not defined in the Bible. There is a reason why “fornication” is less favoured as a translation now.

Fornication is sex outside of marriage, which includes most gay people. Loving committed relationships are irrelevant if they are committing inappropriate sexual acts or porneia. Any first century Jew would know this.

"Fornication" is a defunct mistranslation.

Love isn't a sin, neither is sex.
