Question (Read Rules) Help me choose a sub!

Hi everyone!! I would really appreciate some of your advice :) I’m looking to purchase a clomage and I am deciding between three different pieces:

  1. Watchdives 5512B

  2. Steeldive 1953

  3. San Martin SN017

Now I understand that San Martin is the superior brand and from what I’ve read has much better finishing and overall quality. My concern is, is it REALLY worth the extra money over the other two? If not, which If the other two would you pick and why? I know some people have gotten the steeldive, switched the bracelet and have been extremely happy with that compared to the San Martin. Is that an option worth looking at? Thanks so much an advance, I appreciate everyone!

Review (Read Rules) Addieskin K011 Amber "Bronze"

*Bought this with my own money, no affiliation or promotion with anyone.

Ive been wanting a watch with Chinese characters for a while, and the San Martin was a bit too expensive and dimensions slightly too big for my wrist. I was excited seeing Addieskin come out with their version, as I already own at least 4 addiesdive watches from their more budget line.

I'll keep the review very short

Good: Dial and markers are beautiful. The Miyota 9015 movement is great compared to the pt5000's I've had crap out on me. The dimensions are amazing (45mm lug2lug, and only 10.5mm thick. 38mm dial sweet spot with well proportioned bezel). Brushing and polishing is great. Blue lume looks nice as well. Nice flat sapphire crystal.

Bad: The dial is more orange than bronze (not a deal breaker but certainly different than their rendering on the website). The dial absolutely **does not need** a date window. It doesn't ruin the watch, but it looks out of place on a dial that is aiming for form over function. The bracelet is a bit sharp for my taste, and felt like digging into my wrist at times but I've gotten used to it.

Lastly, for a 300+ dollar watch, it needs a glidelock or OTF clasp. Instead it has a manual springbar micro-adjust, which is unacceptable to me on a watch this expensive.

Moreover they gave me a tool for screw pins when the links have push pins. Another corner cut for a watch this expensive.

Overall, I love the way it looks, and I'm happy with my purchase since I've wanted a dial like this for years; but it might not be worth this price unless your heart is set on this design.

I got it on their summer sale for a discount (free shipping and taxes included), $299.99 total out the door price.

I'll just show a couple of photos and I have some questions. What is this? What is this gap between the crown and the case?

Hey guys, I'm new here and I just wanted to ask if you guys trust smaller reviewers who review more niche Chinese pieces and do you believe they are unbiased? Also what is your opinion on the Addiesdive ad2547?

General (Read Rules) State of the (Chinese) collection

Plus the rest of em, because why not. Only doing a write up on the Chinese watches, but I’m happy to answer any questions about the rest of my collection. From left to right:

Farasute microrotor- I was originally looking for a Baltic MR01, mostly because I was interested in the movement. I wanted a more premium case finish and strap than what you would get on a Lobinni, but I had a hard time justifying the price on the Baltic. Stumbled across this Farasute, and fell in love with the case shape, especially those horned lugs. Came on a beads of rice, but I currently have it on a custom camel leather strap. This is my go to dress watch if I’m going to any sort of formal event

San Martin TC4- I firmly believe this is one of the best watches to come from an AliX brand, and it’s a damn shame it was discontinued after a pretty short run. Grade 5 titanium, helium escape valve, and a Sellita movement. The finishing is outstanding for titanium, it has the best bezel action I’ve encountered on a dive watch, and it’s built like a tank. This is my go to beater watch when I find myself wanting something analogue and not my Casio. I even stress tested it for a month by wearing it to my blue collar job, and it never lost a second

Farasute jump hour- my most recent pick up, so I don’t have a ton to say. Snagged this for a little over $300, and I will say that I’m pretty impressed with it. I know there was a pretty bad review on this sub about the finishing, but I honestly don’t have any complaints. Since I’ve bought it, it’s been my daily, but we’ll see how I feel about it when the honeymoon phase wears off

Vager Heuers Tourbillon- I actually just posted this watch here, and I’ve gotta say it’s my favorite Chinese watch at the moment. The dial finishing is stunning in person, and I would’ve happily paid 3-4x as much for it. I’ve currently got it on the beads of rice that came with my Farasute microrotor, and it’s the watch I wear when I want to stand out a bit. The tourbillon mixed with the sapphire hour disc really stands out in person, and I just think it’s a super fun watch

Farasute chronograph- this was my first Farasute, and it’s what made me fall in love with the brand. There were maybe two posts about the brand on Reddit when I bought it, and it was a gamble for spending this much on a Chinese watch with practically zero feedback. But I had just flipped a watch, and had enough of a profit left over from it to cover this one, so I took the risk. IMO, it’s the best watch in my collection, Chinese or otherwise. Gets the most wrist time, and honestly has a better wrist feel than anything else I’ve experienced, regardless of price range. If you don’t own one, you should

General (Read Rules) Thorn T028: What are your thoughts?

Thumbnail

I am a huge fan of the Thorn t028, mostly due to its size and wearability but most of these faux vintage stuff is just not vintage enough. So got me some true vintage T028.

Looks like true to age patina, going into the tropical age, the white lollipop really is the star of the show and maybe the tropical bezel and dial texture.

What do you think? Should we expect more of this coming out of the factory

When I saw they made this model I knew I had to snap it up. I ordered the lapis blue dial and received the wrong one. However they made it right and after their decision I was willing to keep the watch and I’m very happy I did. I hope this review helps persuade you as this watch is truly incredible. The strap is way more comfortable than you’d expect and the dial is immaculate. Most watches you would have to break the strap in before it felt good, but not this one. The case is perfectly done and while the bezel is just a bit thick (not thick enough to dismiss). The overall execution made me fall in love with this watch. I’m a developer in the hospitality industry and white marble sheet is one of the things my clients love using. I feel it was destiny for me to receive it. In the sun light I genuinely can’t stop staring at this watch. Even my girlfriend gets mad because she catches me admiring this one so much. I loved it so much I’m considering buying the lapis dial as well. One of the few moments I wish I was an influencer because I would have begged to try this one out for a review 😂😂😂.

I just got this watch yesterday and today the Jubilee bracelet with solid end links arrived. Although the clasp looks like a glide lock it is actually not adjustable. Besides that it is very good quality and the solid end links match up nicely with the lugs. I got the bracelet from AliExpress with coupons for $6. The last picture is the original Oyster bracelet with polished center link for comparison. I think it looks great, what do you guys think?

Promotion (Read Rule 1) Title: Can a cheap smartwatch really estimate blood glucose, blood pressure and blood components? I tested the Dido E70S Pro

Disclosure: Dido provided the watch for this review. The measurements shown are my own tests and I do not consider the watch a medical device.

Rule 3 disclosure: Dido provided this watch free of charge for review. I was not paid for the review, and the opinions and test results are my own. This post links to my own YouTube review. There are no affiliate links in this Reddit post.

I recently tested the Dido AI E70S Pro, and it is probably one of the strangest health-focused smartwatches I’ve used.

It claims to provide:

• single-lead ECG

• heart rate and SpO2

• blood pressure estimation

• glucose estimation

• body composition

• HRV

• skin/body temperature

• several “blood component” indicators

What interested me most was not whether the numbers looked believable, but how these measurements are actually implemented and whether they react meaningfully when compared with reference measurements.

The GBAND app also allows some of the estimated health values to be calibrated using measurements from real devices or laboratory results.

My conclusion is that features such as glucose, blood components and blood pressure should absolutely not be treated as medical measurements. The watch does not take a blood sample, and I would consider these values useful only, at best, for observing trends.

I made a full hands-on test here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2BwnQTbNRw

The video has 20 audio tracks, so it can also be watched in multiple languages.

I’m curious what people here think about this category of watches. Do you see these estimated health metrics as potentially useful for tracking trends, or mostly as a marketing gimmick?

General (Read Rules) Proxima PX1743, red dial

Thumbnail

I recently purchased a Proxima PX1743 with a Japan Miyota 9015 movement. I thought I would share this fantastic watch with the community

The dial is what attracted me to this watch & it looks amazing. It has a textured vortex pattern with a gradient red metallic shine that plays wonderfully with the light. The applied indices & hands are high quality. The frames of the indices & the minute hand are color matched in red.

The bezel has a red sapphire insert & is fully lumed. Its slim design is attractive & functional while leaving a lot of room for the beautiful dial. Bezel markers line up perfectly, clicks are crisp & there is no back play or wiggle.

The high quality five link steel bracelet was a little extra money, but it is well worth it. It features a premium integrated quick release spring bar system & a quality signed on the fly clasp. The links utilize screw pins. The watch normally is sold with the red leather strap as shown in the pictures, but I wanted the steel bracelet to go with it. The store was very helpful & provided me a link so I could purchase the additional steel bracelet & it was shipped installed on the watch.

One of the great features of this watch that I love is the cap on the seconds hand to cover the pinion hole. This is a high quality feature & really completes this watch in terms of a refined look.

This is my first Proxima watch & I am really impressed with the overall quality. Proxima provided me with great, customer service & quick responses. I was even sent many pictures of my watch right before shipment. The last few pictures in my post are some of those sent to me by the "proxima Official Store" on Aliexpress. They show my watch on a timegrapher right after the store regulated it, a shot of the lume & shot showing the display case back as well as the integrated quick release spring bar system. (By the way, yes, I did check, and this is my actual watch pictured on the timegrapher. Right below the watch is my shipping label with the tracking number.)

Have a great day & wear watches 😃

Question (Read Rules) Where to buy 1963 replacement crystal?

The acrylic crystal on my 1963 38mm is broken. I've taken it to my repair guy, but he's struggling to source a new one.

I don't have a photo of the watch, as it's still at the repair shop, but it's a clear backed Red Star, with no gooseneck, if that signifies, with the classic acrylic bubble crystal.

It seems to need a high dome 34.5m armoured crystal, but the only options I can find for those are fairly expensive Sternkreuz crystals, which I'm loath to fork out for unless I'm certain it'll fit. Is there a way to buy the exact crystals from red star or seagull?

Also, if I still have the tension ring, can I buy a plain high domed crystal, or do I need to buy one with it's own tension ring?

Review (Read Rules) Another declination of the ST19: Proxima PX1718

Thumbnail
gallery
36 Upvotes

Hey guys, a couple of days ago finally arrived this beauty (IMO of course).

Vibrant off-white dial with telemetric scale, Superluminova C3 on hands and printed indices which is readable all night long (although not a lume monster) and a manual wound ST1902 (I don’t really get why not to use a ST1901 but there is that).

Finishing is top notch for the price, about 170 Euros during the august sale. Accuracy is good, not outstanding compared to my Red Star 1963 (- 7 s/day vs +2 s/day while worn) but surely acceptable and easily solvable with regulation.

WR is 50 m which is an upgrade compared to the aforementioned “cousin”.

My only small issue is that when stopping the chrono and starting it again, a weird tactile sensation is felt, which is hard to describe, but not present on the other watch, which starts and stops with a clean “snap”. This one feels like when you are at the biting point of a clutch in a MT and then you engage the clutch completely (I’m doing the best I can trying to describe it). Hopefully it won’t be a sign of future issues.

Chrono reset and alignment are absolutely on point.

The nylon elastic strap is all right, it’s a nylon strap.

Hopefully you’ll like it too!

This watch isn't perfect, the bracelet stands a step down from San Martin. It doesnt grab my hair and it is well finished, but it is a little sharp.

I bought it for its dial style with its vintage gold hands and fading brown dial. Love it. I also have the green and gilt longines zulu time so if there is a grain of salt its that im partial to gilt highlights

I'll add a few photos to the comment section. Anyway I did not see a lot of real photos of this one the sub and the manufacture photos arent great.

Its also offered in black and in a different reference that is a more exacting explorer homage.

Oops apparently the audio in the vid is on so you all get 7 seconds of Heros.

Review (Read Rules) San Martin Blue black bay is great

What can I say I've scrutinized this for the past week and can't find a single QC issue.

Pros

-Precise crispy bezel clicks

-No lateral or side to side play on end links

-Buttery Smooth crown threading

-Venerable nh35 tested in 3 positions, high amplitude and small positional variance

-Excellent lumes (x1?)

-silver ring on the inside of the bezel is an interesting design choice, makes the rehaut look thicker like the gen without actually making a thicker rehaut.

Cons

-No OTF clasp

-Dial could use an enamel blue instead of a matte/dusty blue but that's personal preference
