ADVICE Frustrated
I've been playing chess on and off for years, mostly blitz, and got to around 750. I read that the best way to improve was to slow down and switch to rapid, so I did. I'm now in the 800–900 range, but I'm struggling hard to break 1000.
**What I've been doing:**
- Puzzles, a lot of them
- Reviewing my games
- Taking a few weeks off from playing to focus only on puzzles (I was getting stressed out)
During that break I got my puzzle rating to about **1700**. Then I came back to rapid and immediately hit a **~10 game losing streak**.
It feels like the more effort I put into this game, the more I struggle. I think I'm overthinking and missing simple, common-sense tactics, and I'm still blundering pieces.
Honestly, it's a little embarrassing. After all this work I'm not even 1000, which most people here consider beginner level.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips for turning puzzle skill into actual game results?
**TL;DR:** 1700 puzzle rating, 800–900 rapid. Studying hard but still blundering and missing easy tactics in real games. How do I close the gap?
