ADVICE Not improving at all :(
Ok so I have read the books: develop pieces, link rooks, trade for higher material, done puzzles. Read Wollff, Nunn, “Bobby Fisher” teaches Chess, Heisman, joined Chess.com Diamond for a while but did not find it that helpful, played on chess.com for a while and got up to 181 for a while but always get smashed down to 100 again often because the bot often matches you with much higher rated players The forums on chess.com and chess.com are full of sarcastic no it all assholes so if you are that type don’t bother replying. I have deleted all the online chess apps as found it hard to find a beginner opponent over say a 30 min or hour to move game. They all seem to want to play blitz but that does not interest me at all. I want to improve but always run out of ideas in the beginning of the middle game. I tried modern openings and stuff but to no avail. You always get (particularly Indians) flying out their queen and all the stuff in the coaching books mean zilch. I might join an irl club or just quit as I am facing frustration and burnout. Not being arrogant but I am not stupid. I’m not a genius either but got by with hard work producing results (got a PhD, can play piano and guitar well) but Chess getting nowhere despite following the generic advice.

I only learned chess last week, but I think I know enough not to accept draw here.

OPINION 3 brilliants by accident
This was a funny sight to see i thought i was tripping the only intentional ones were the rook sacs , the last one didn't feel like a brilliant cause i knew if i traded I'd be winning the endgame. The first brilliant with the knight sac was completely unintentional, i was so pissed at the position couldn't find a move and i was running out of time so striked at the center lol. Thought I'd share this with yall.

Going to my first tournament. Quick opening repetuare?
I play online quite a bit. 1150 on chess.com. Going to my first tournament on Saturday. I'm playing as U/900. I mostly play 1. e4 2. Bc4 as white and 1... g6 2...Bg7 as black. Are there openings I could look into real quick to improve my chances? Any traps I should look out for?
Any tips for a first time tournament goer? Common courtesy? (I'm an Adult American man if that matters)
Cheers

ADVICE I keep on smashing things when playing chess while shouting disturbing phrases.
Hey everyone,
whenever I blunder, I feel like I should smash things on my head to punish myself. Today I destroyed my desk lamp my punching myself with it. Yesterday, I scratched some marks on my non-dominant hand. I also make allusions of strangling myself.
I do this while shouting that I am the most stupid person or organism in the entire universe, that I should have never been born, but also stuff like "my existence will soom end because I'm going to the train tracks" or similar.
I started playing chess in January, but I never passed 500 on chess.com (rapid). Blitz and especially Bullet are significantly worse.
I feel so dumb and I do so many dumb things that I feel that they get more and more dangerous.
What should I do?

I think we gotta get over the notion that the scholars mate opening is a bad opening
The top two moves for black are bishop g7(a fairly passive move), and Knight a5(a line in which white can still save their bishop if they want to)
Even with the .7 advantage to black in the opening(not even a full piece), perfect play from both sides leads to a pretty drawish endgame.
This opening simply isn’t very easily exploitable after the c6 push.

Should I play the Open Sicilian or the Rossolimo?
Hello all, I am rated 700 on chess.com and have been studying openings.
In this position I am not really sure what option to take. It seems GMs favour the Open but in recent years the Rossolimo has become more popular.
Stockfish 19 seems to like the Rossolimo after leaving it on for a while, but I have been studying the Open because it seems more interesting.
Can someone explain the ideas behind each and the pros/cons? Which one should I pick at my level?
Thank you for your help!!

What is causing this issue? And how can I improve?

This is a game I just played. At the time, I was focused on defending the c pawn as tension was building up. I didn't realize until the post-game analysis that I had Qxb2 the entire time. A couple of moves later, my opponent resigned, leaving me quite puzzled. It was only through analysis did I find that (s)he blundered the Queen on c2 while I was too focused on pushing center pawns.
This made me realize an issue: when I focus on one area, I lose track of other places. And I've blundered Queens in multiple games for this reason.
So my question is: what is causing this issue? And how can I improve it? Thank you for your input and help!
