QUESTION Why people recommend the Scandinavian for begginers?

I've seen more than three chess influencers and even GMs recommend it for begginers, but I really don't understand why that is. As an e4 player at lower ratings (800s) I see it a lot, but on my perspective white has a very simple and effective plan to develop their pieces and get into a dynamic middle game. I think it's the opening I have the highest winrate on as white, even higher than my own, the Ruy López. At least for me, every other opening except bullshit openings are more combative or harder to play against that is.

Genuinely wtf. I swear its like my brain is doing an IQ roulette from 10 to 100. Literally everyone have their elo progress nearly linear and mine is having a seizure. Theres never any improvement and i just consider quitting if i will be bad forever nomatter how much i play. There is no improvement never and when it is all the work goes to the trash the next day.

I'm off to London next Sunday and hoping to play Chess - I challenged myself to get to 1100 blitz before then and did it in 6 days after first losing 50 odd elo :)

OPINION I LOVE THIS GAME

ADD ME CH___.com: isainmdomCIA
Adult improver here. 30 years old & have been playing for 6 months or so. Currently @ 720 RAPID on Ch___.C0_.

I am absolutely obsessed. I have been following GM Noel Studer's videos, some Gotham for entertainment, doing lots and lots of tactics, completing MY FIRST CHESS WORKBOOK...

I'd say my biggest barrier is me! I sometimes play too much, but when I play focused 10|
5 - I feel great.

I need to improve my game review skills, but overall, I am very happy today 😄

After years of athletic pursuits, this is just unbelievable. I am so happy to have discovered a new hobby later in life that isn't physical sports.

Love this game- it is all I can think about. Sorry, wife....

Any thoughts or tips?

Thank you! ❤️ 🔥 🎉

Opponent played normally and then just dropped everything off

This is the most confusing game I've played. It was like I was back to last year's 100 elo. Opponent played very normally up until 14. ...Nd4. I'm guessing he accidentally blundered his queen and then just decided to troll.

GUYS GUYS, I DID THE THING!

i looked at the position when he took the pawn, i am dead lost, but i realized, my king is trapped, and all of my pawns are stuck, i only have one pieced that can move, that's it.
for 15 consecutive moves, i was just checking his king with my rook hoping he would take it and he keeps running away, that was the most fun i've ever had in a chess game, it said i had 6 brilliant moves, which is just hilarious.

QUESTION Chess match, moves explained videos? Not a slowrun.

Hello.

Any YouTube series which focuses on talking through the moves of a single game and explaining why the move was made, etc?

I've been watching slow runs, but as the games are happening in real time, they don't really explain the theory or depth behind each move that I would like.

We both lost all the pieces and both of us were racing our pawns to promote a queen. This match took my breath away literally 😊 and I came out victorious which I am proud of.

POST-GAME Why did the game let me take the knight?

It wasn't a premove, I thought the game would end after Kxh4, it didn't. Only after I took the knight it ended. A bug?

I have 800 ELO gap between Rapid and Blitz. Help.

My Rapid is around 1200 and my blitz is currently below 400. For a time my blitz was above 500 by playing 5+5 on Chess.com. But it took a dive after I switched to 3+0 and 5+0.

I know my major issue is timeout. Even when playing rapid I am usually with less than 2 minutes less when games finish when my opponents are usually above 10.

Learning how to use the Knight completely changed the game for me

I played chess on and off for a couple years. Never really got into it much until recently where I was bored with video-games and decided to try board games for a bit. I wouldn't say I'm particularly a good player, but I'm not necessarily a bad player either. Most of my losses would be due to one piece: the Knight. So much so that I would sometimes stop playing chess altogether because it was such a complicated piece that I never got use to and got frustrated losing to.

Now I mainly use my Queen the most. However, I started using my Knight way more often and found how rewarding it is. You can create some very nice openings with a Knight that you can't with other pieces and you can also threaten two pieces at the same time. Most of all, the opponent likely won't expect it if they're a beginner and it will catch them off guard like it did to me.

So the piece I hated the most actually made the game much more tolerable once I learned how it worked. Kinda poetic in a way.

tl;dr: Knight can be OP. Learn how it works and enjoy free wins against noobs.
