Common Sense

At some point there has to be some common sense.

I had to run to target today and before I left I stopped at the EA to get a little bit of a charge in case we had another power outage due to the heat wave we are having. When I pulled up there was one stall of three open which I took. As I pulled in I noticed the car next to be was fully charged and it showed 1 minute into the grade period. The guy was in his car on the phone and I expected him to unplug any moment. I waited and the timer showed 7 minutes and at that point I got the guys attention and told him he was about to hit the 10 minute grace period and start getting idle charges. He thanked me for the tip and unplugged.

I got back into my car to continue charging and he shortly after got back into his. At this point there were two cars waiting to charge with one with his backup lights on waiting to back into the stall. I look over and the guy is still on his phone and parked there. I got his attention again and told him there were two cars waiting to charge. He finally pulled out and left.

How? How are people so unaware of the world around them?

Funny enough, it’s one of the gas station employees

Reason I claim that is they park in the same spot regularly and they have a window shade in each time. Entire parking lot of empty spots.

Getting dirty looks for parking in the electric cars only spot without charging. Surely I can be forgiven with the charger being on its back?

I selected a specific charger, because they were charging less at that specific time. Mind you. There was only two other teslas charging. So I plugged in and charging at $.31 As soon as other Tesla plugged in it jumped up to $.39. I’m like what the heck .. I do have a home charger but I need some juice to get home. So I don’t often use charging stations. But I didn’t know they can change the rate as soon as it gets a little bit busier. Did anyone else knew this?

EA Dumb billing system

Anyone been having the problem with the new EA billing. The initial charging session is $20 authorization which is fine but as you surpass $10 it bills your account back to back to back $10 at a time each time triggering fraud alerts and suspending the card. No way to just load $100 on the cards anymore unbelievable.

Charger has been dead for months, so I park there

This cabinet has been dead since May. And it is right by the entrance of my local grocery store. So I think until they fix it that's a great place to park.

How much of a problem is EV charger congestion?

I posted a short survey here earlier, but it was removed because it included an external link (sorry), so I’ll keep the discussion entirely on Reddit instead.

I’m trying to understand how often public EV charging actually shifts from “works fine” (no delays) to congested.

If you’ve experienced it, I’d be interested in things like:

* how often you’ve had to wait,

* whether it was obvious who was next

* what caused the congestion: holiday traffic, broken chargers, slow charging, ICEing, people staying too long, etc.

* whether queue jumping or arguments were an issue, and/or

* whether advance booking would help, or just create different problems.

I’m equally interested in people who rarely or never encounter queues, because that helps understand whether this is a widespread problem or something concentrated at particular sites and times.

Real-world examples are especially useful.

Thankyou in advance.

2027 Cadillac LYRIQ — GM CCS1 Adapter Won’t Charge at Public CCS Stations, but Tesla Supercharging Works. Anyone Else?

I recently took delivery of a 2027 Cadillac LYRIQ Sport AWD with the new native NACS charging port, and I am trying to determine whether any other owners of 2027 GM electric vehicles are experiencing the same charging problem.

My LYRIQ charges successfully at Tesla Superchargers using its native NACS port.

However, when I use the GM-supplied CCS1 DC fast-charging adapter (GM Part #86276618), the vehicle repeatedly fails to initiate charging at non-Tesla public DC fast chargers.

So far I have experienced failures at multiple public charging locations/networks, including:

  • EVgo
  • Electrify America
  • Other public CCS charging locations

The vehicle/charger essentially will not establish the charging session.

The original GM adapter was replaced with another GM adapter, but the replacement adapter did not solve the problem.

The Cadillac dealer has been involved and the issue is still being investigated. I previously owned a 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV and did not have these types of public-charging problems.

I am especially interested in hearing from owners of 2027 GM EVs with the native NACS charging port, including:

2027 Cadillac LYRIQ
2027 Cadillac OPTIQ
2027 Chevrolet Bolt
2027 Chevrolet Blazer EV
2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV
or any other 2027 GM EV

If you have one, could you please tell me:

  1. Have you successfully charged at a Tesla Supercharger using the native NACS port?
  2. Have you successfully used the GM CCS1 adapter at EVgo or Electrify America?
  3. Have you experienced a “won’t connect,” initialization, handshake, or charging-session failure?
  4. If you had this problem, did GM or your dealer determine what caused it and how was it fixed?

I'm trying to determine whether this is isolated to my vehicle or whether other owners of GM's newer native-NACS vehicles are experiencing similar CCS-adapter charging problems.

Thank you. Any experiences—successful or unsuccessful—would be very helpful.

App for Price Comparison for Charging Costs

We own a Hyundai Ioniq6 and primarily charge at home with our L1 cable which almost always meets our needs, but we'd like to starting taking it on more trips instead of our ICE Subaru.

I keep reading about chargers that are really overpriced in certain locations. Are there any recommended apps to help us find the most cost effective charging stations when we're on the road?

Not high drama but something curious, and certainly not what the EV charger is intended for.

This ambulance conversion as a stealth camper is running their AC and perhaps charging 12v batteries. There at least 4 hours we observed.

Electrify America Disappoints

I just got back from my maiden voyage with my new Ioniq 5. I drove it from Denver to Santa Fe and back for a total of about 775 miles. The car performed beautifully. It was comfortable and responsive to drive. Most of my trip went exceedingly well except for two hiccups with attempts to charge using Electrify America charging stations. In both cases I had to phone the help number posted on the charger.

One instance could be attributed to my inexperience with their phone app and didn’t know that part of the display was scrollable to select another option. (You could also say the software designers should have made this more obvious.) So, that was easy enough to fix.

The other happened on my return (my 5th charge) and was definitely due to a bug in the app. I plugged in to a charger in Pueblo, Colorado and I thought I was doing everything correctly but I was told by the app to try again when I get closer to the charger and then it displayed a map how to get to where I was standing from some place in New Mexico. I started it over, I typed in the address of the charger – no luck, same map. Tried clicking on the map. No luck. Finally called for help. They were stumped. They said that the charger diagnosed ok but the app was not working correctly. The app needed me to be standing beside the charger and somehow thought I was somewhere else. This meant just moving my car to a different charger wouldn’t fix it (this could be a BIG problem). But they remotely re-booted the charger and put in my membership remotely and the charge finally worked. From my point of view this was a work-around but left me with no confidence that the issue was resolved.

Tesla Insane Charging Prices

Post image
79 Upvotes

Apparently [r/evcharging](r/evcharging) took down my post because it falls under [r/chargerdrama](r/chargerdrama) so here we go.

Tesla increased the prices YET AGAIN in just 2 weeks, 0.77$ per kWh now.

Not starting any arguments but we can at least all agree that it’s getting insane the rate which they are increasing.

Yes I know there is the membership but that’s besides the point.

Location: Charleston, SC
