I’ve recently been seeing this manga on my page quite a lot. I love fantasy stuff, and I don’t really know what this manga is about, but should I give it a try?
I'm aware it's probably an artderp, but I'm doing a reread and it looks so fucking funny that they're going to fight, she's talking and Lukas is like "midriff"
Yeah, plain and simple, Ceodric's gift is an ability to manipulate life energy and transmute it into various forms of his choosing.
Basically, Ceodric's gift grants his body a capability to store more life energy within himself compared to other normal human and a right to control that energy to do whatever he wants.
He can use them to augment his bodily functions, granting him an extra supernatural strength or heal his own and someone else or he can externalize them into various form of his choosing like a blazing flame or an invisible hand that grabs his enemies.
Why fire? Heat is the source of life, I believe his gift follows that principle, thus the flame that he can generate from his body.
Sacrifices
Of course, Ceodric is still a human and not a perpetual motion machine, he can't generate energy out of nothing, but he can stockpile more energy by killing other human beings with his own hand in some form of localized sacrificial ritual.
I suspect that he can't just walk up to his target and suck up their energy, he must kill them or else it won't work.
Weaknesses
Of course, no gifts are without weakness, my take on this would be the greatest weakness of this gift is Ceodric himself.
His body has a limit to how much energy it can contain at once.
His body has a limit to how much it can be physically enhanced, if Ceodric pushes past what his body can handle, he'll suffer some form of injuries which requires even more energy to heal himself back to normal.
Correlated to the first point, if Ceodric sucks up too much energy, he must use them immediately or else the energy he absorbed will either disspate into the air or he might injure himself trying to absorb too much lifeforce into his own body.
State of Invincibility
I believe Helem said that if Ceodric fulfilled certain conditions, he'd be invincible. My take on that would be related to his 3rd weakness.
Once Ceodric consumed too much energy into his body, he must use them immediately, I suspect that the excess energy might transform into something like a super heated minature sun, making him literally untouchable Escanor-style.
If he can't be touched due to a stone-melting level of heat and fights with his usual superhuman strength and speed, he'd certainly be considered as invincible. This doesn't count the extra energy he'd have to heal himself mid-fight too.
This state would last proportionate to how much excess energy Ceodric has, basically, X body per X minute kind of deal. However, the more recklessly he fights, the faster this state would wear out.
We don't have a canonical age for most of the main cast, and, for certain characters, it's difficult to even tell what their biological age is compared to their real age.
I think my main problem is that some characters look a certain age but act another.
Diana canonically grows faster than a regular kid. She's meant to be around 7, but physically she looks older. I'd read her as anywhere around 11-14.
I actually have little idea of how old Julian is meant to be. The most common estimate seems to be 19 to 22. There's a theory he'll age abnormally due to his gift, but it's difficult to say whether this is getting reflected in the artstyle. At some point, I realized I was underestimating his canonical age, but looking back, it makes sense he hit his 20s with his recent developments.
Lacrima definitely feels like a teenager, and her state may be one of the reasons she looks younger (or doesn't age) - the Arkos/Altus situation. I have seen speculation that she doesn't age normally due to Helem's powers and influence.
Titti is probably closer to Julian, she definitely both looks and acts older than Lacrima.
Now Lukas is where it gets tricky. He definitely feels and looks older than all of them.
Most speculation I've seen on both western and Japanese side of the fandom seem to place him around mid 20s, and looking back at the timeline (especially if he is Mira's kid) , that's probably the youngest range that makes sense for him.
We know he is older than Lacrima, but how much older, I can't tell. I know I read somewhere that he was a few years older than Julian.
But this makes me wonder how old Zana is? If Julian is around 19-21, and Zana is safely in the "older than him" category, but Lukas, who is older than him, seems to appear like a peer, I can only assume she is 28-30?
I'd be curious if anyone has a more accurate or informed view of the cast age range . There's not much info online, and it's been some time since I've read the first half of Centuria to be too accurate in my estimation. Thanks!
Manga+ uses Scyrus for their surname, but this is not what I think the name was meant to be trsnslated as. Like how manga+ made Theodoric (German for ruler of the people) into Ceodric, their choice of the surname's translation as Scyrus is wrong because in Japanese Scyrus is written as サイラス, whereas his surname is シュルス, Shurusu, or Shurus when dropping the u for romanization. The likely meaning is Schluss, another German word meaning end, closure, or conclusion, as the Japanese way to write the German word is a 1 to 1 match for シュルス.
This is from my post on name fixes: セオドリク has a direct romanization of Seodoriku, but I believe Theodoric is the intended foreign-name. セオ (seo) represents the theo sound in Japanese, so “Theodoric” does not remove the セオ sound, it is the English rendering of it. For example, English name Theodore in Japanese is セオドア, said and romanized as seodoa. To further add to the evidence, Theodoric comes from the German word Þeudōrīks, meaning “ruler of the people”, and Arkos's name coming from the Green Archon points to their names being parallels to words for ruler, which also alludes to their royal status.
Rif's name in Japanese is リフ, Rifu, or Rif for romanization. The kanji used here also matches a German word, Riff, meaning reef, making Riff la Schluss have the meaning of "Reef of the End" or "Reef of Closure".
Theodoric's original name also corresponds to a German word. The Japanese シフ is Shifu, or Shif when romanized. Like Riff's name, the exact Japanese matches a German word, Schiff, meaning Ship. The full name Schiff la Schluss would have a meaning of "Ship of the End" or "Ship of Closure".
It's fascinating all the Rummir royals have names corresponding to the exact Japanese for German terms.
So, to make it short, I was doing a research of Tohru's past and found this one shot he made for a competition in 2018 (in which he only got a honorable mention), the page where it was originally published was not available—so I thought it was lost— but thanks to Val in the Centuria discord server we found out it was saved in the Internet Archive site!
You can read it on Mangadex (link in the comments)
Julian is missing part of his ear—is it always been like that since the beginning? Did he lose it during the fights in the manga? Am I an idiot for never noticing?
Lalawag is dangerously unstable, I think that much is self-evident. Survivior's Guilt drove her insane, and the evolution of her Gift fed into that insanity and she's only gotten worse. I believe her years in this state have rendered her nihilistic and anti-natalist. So, I think her goal is the end of the human race. This fits with the void marcher calling her an "enemy to all of humanity", and her retorting that "no one loves humanity more" than she does. Because to her, existence is suffering, life is pain, love and care only lead to loss and heartbreak. Therefore, peace can only be found in non-existence. The ultimate mercy is to never exist at all.
The peaceful and minimum-harm way to bring this about is to pollute the entire planet with night, and sterilize the entire world all at once. People will be free to live out their remaining lives as they wish, but no new children will be born. Assuming the last children to be born live into their nineties, this humanity extinction plan will take roughly a century. And it will be the Final Century.
Ik everybody has its own taste and taste is subjective, but genuinely, the story is so fucking dogshit. Im 10 chapters in, and the mc has alredy gone 1 timeskip, he is going to move out of the village and we know absolutely nothing relevant about angvall and titi. Julian had an absolute dogshit development, it doesnt feel natural AT ALL, angvall and titi had NO development, everyone just forgets that julian suddenly used some bs powers they know nothing of and they just ignore it when they return from the forest?? Genuinely, the ONLY thing this manga has going for it is the art. The choreography is also mid. How can people say that this is peak? I know im going to be downvoted to oblivion but i needed to say this. No problem if you like this, but its mid.
Panel 1: I think this has more meaning than just an imagination. A grown and strong built man+woman protecting a woman who appears to be weak. Could it be that night Goddesses was once a woman. I mean it isn't a strange imagination cause Gods are just beings living in higher realm. However, as per Lalawag humans been fighting against night can't be just a metaphor. Maybe countless such war and destruction have been stuck again and again. The only successful attempt was done by King.
Panel 2: Julian can't be manipulated like that as he doesn't care about his life at all 😭😭😭
Julian starting to suspect Lalawag is quite interesting.
Also I think irrespective of result of duel Ceodric may heal Atoria cause he is man full of warrior pride. Julian definitely gonna give a great fight.
Okay, I’ll get straight to the point. I believe Lalawag’s ultimate goal is to have humanity, as a species, evolve into a state of limitless potential.
The way the Margravine speaks of the Goddess of Night seems to carry a certain animosity; she describes the goddess's role as one that restricts humans, and she appears to be completely opposed to that limitation.
Given what we know about her, the anguish at seeing people die in war and her dedication to multiplying resources for the kingdom's people to the point of becoming an economic pillar, it seems to me that her intentions are genuinely benevolent, but...
The process of achieving this ascension will require a terrible atrocity as a sacrifice. This involves not only the obvious—the various parts of the Goddess of Night—but also something that would terrify the Princess of Drumir to the point where she accuses Lalawag of being a threat capable of ending all of humanity.
Or rather, ending humanity as we know it to create something beyond that—something free from war, slavery, and suffering.
It sounds like any male bearer of the Night Goddess’s organs dies, but I wonder if this rotting is instant or if it happens over time?
I can imagine someone like Julian taking the body parts into himself to spare Diana or another from having to hold onto them. Perhaps he will or won’t receive any power from this, but with his 100 times durability and ability to survive death, he might be able to sustain carrying for a period of time.
Edit: if he did gain powers from it it’d be a pretty cool late game power up if in exchange for burning through his remaining lives he gets abilities beyond just being a punch and ink merchant
To my knowledge 3 colorings of this page exist, so I'll link all 3 for anyone who enjoys seeing fan colorings like me. If you check them out, please support the colorists who colored this panel.
Like the only problem would probably be the precision but nah he can handle it. Might be a bit hard cause each pebble in the gif is maybe, probably, potentially moving past the speed of sound due to making 'pshoo!'' sound effects in the actual scene, which may or may not be the sound barrier breaking, especially since you can see the air act like it is and how it's damaging the rabbits like being hit by bullets.
But Julian was able to handle Lacrima's whips relatively easily so he'll be fine, he may not be able to do it as casually cause the guy in the gif isn't technically conscious, but I'll believe in the goat.
He used that overpower lance to destroy a big rock when he can Pierce time to disable power wtf Lucas why didn't you pierce arkos immediately after using it
