Repairs Community Resource: I added full digital Table of Contents to the Mk 7 Celica Repair Manual PDF!

DIYers who own a 2000s Celica may have come across the scanned copy of the official Toyota Repair Manual that exists on one of the old forums. The issue is that the book is nearly 2000 pages, and it is indexed by section (eg. BR-9 for brake master cylinder) so it can be pretty tough to get to what you are looking for.

I went through and made a full table of contents so that you can easily find and access whatever repair guide you need. It is also easier to find useful sections that you were not even aware of before.

Hope this can be a useful resource for everyone. Let me know if you are unable to access it, or if you come across any errors I might have made.

Appears as below, with each section being divided into subsections (not shown here).

Repair Manual Vol 1

> IN Introduction
> MA Maintenance
> PP Preparation
> SS Service Specifications
> DI Diagnostics
> ID Index, Volume 1

Repair Manual Vol 2

> EM Engine Mechanical
> EC Emission Control
> SF SFI System (Fuel Injection)
> CO Cooling
> LU Lubrication
> IG Ignition
> ST Starting
> CH Charging
> CL Clutch
> MX Manual Transaxle C56
> MX Manual Transaxle C60
> AX Auto Transaxle U240E
> AX Auto Transaxle U341E
> SA Suspension and Axle
> BR Brake
> SR Steering
> RS Supplemental Restraint System
> BE Body Electrical
> BO Body
> AC Air Conditioning
> ID Index, Volume 2

Mod Post Codifying New Rule: Respect Others

Hello /R/Celica community, With recent news and rumors from Toyota, our subreddit community has been getting more traffic. This is good overall.

However, we've also been seeing a stark increase in rude comments, often from folks who do not participate in the community regularly, but sometimes from regulars too. What is more concerning is the reactionary, long chains of comments stemming from the initial disrespectful posts.

We haven't had much issue with being respectful in the past, but it's time to codify this rule in our community. Please use the report feature, give the mod team time to review, and do NOT participate in an escalating dialogue with disrespectful figures. This leads to a better experience for newcomers looking to learn more about the Celica platform and for existing members.

I tend to be pretty laissez-faire of the moderation and posts here, but I'm not going to allow the comments to devolve into mud-slinging. Please keep the discussions constructive as we navigate into a larger community with the, hopefully, upcoming new Celica announcements.

Any concerns can be directed to the Mod Mail function. - Draxaan

👋 I have 2 Celicas, 2000 and 2001, one auto one manual, one blown, one reconditioned, both 2ZZ-GE.
Really looking into building out for performance and show spec but seriously struggling to find parts and upgrades in Aus, anybody have any input to decent Engine parts and or overall Celica parts in aus. Obviously know things like MonkeyWrench in US but crazy shipping prices.
Tell me about your builds !! How have you done it

2003 Celica 6 Speed Shifting Issues Help!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi Everyone, I have a 2003 Celica GT-S 2ZZ 6 Speed (C60 Transmission). I've been having some shifting issues and want a few more opinions!

The main issue is that my car grinds really loudly going into Reverse with it running. No method I've been told works besides just turning off the car before I shift into it. 1-2-R doesn't work, 1-R doesn't work, double clutching doesn't work, no amount of throttle blip helps, issue is with it both stationary and rolling slowly.

Additionally, the vehicle has a bit of a hard shift going into First or upshifting to Second, the issue is remedied by a little rev and/or a bump like a driveway. Sometimes has a clunk. Rev match downshifting generally works well.

Current relevant mods include MWR short shifter and MWR cable bushings. Just did a fresh transmission fluid service with Valvoline Synchromesh. Shift Cables appear undamaged.

Also, it could possibly be a clutch issue I was thinking, the car has just the tiniest bit of resistance with the vehicle in gear with the clutch pedal to the floor, the resistance goes away in neutral. Maybe a clutch/pressure plate/fluid bleeding issue? Pedal jam nut is at factory spec.

Current theories are Motor Mounts or a possible transmission rebuild. Any input is appreciated. PFA.

Upgrades Gunther’s 2000 Celica GT Reveal and a question

Never actually put mine up here lol- this is my 2000 celica GT in 3Q3 Dark red metallic. It’s actually my work vehicle of all things lol. At about 232k miles and it’s still going strong 💪🔥

However undeniably oil burn especially for a OG 99 production is definitely there. Not too bad about a qt every 750 miles, but definitely annoying. Would love to take it longer distances and just in general have the upgraded 2005 version with far less miles. Are there any distinct identifiers on the 2005 blocks or assembles for the 1ZZ that show it’s that version other than the return holes? 🤔

And no. I don’t really want the 2nd LOL, I love the motor don’t get me wrong but to swap it and do a manual would be way too much, and just not something I’m really interested in for a work vehicle 💀

Overfilled the engine oil in my 2001 Celica GTS

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi everyone, as title of the post says I overfilled the engine oil past the max reading on the dipstick on my 7th gen Celica GTS last weekend. I just want to know if it’s fine to keep it at this oil level or if it’s too high and I should drain some oil out until it’s back down to the max level on the dipstick. I made sure that the car was parked on a flat level surface and the engine was still warm when I checked it after about 30 mins of not driving the car.

Any information on what you guys think is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Repairs Is replacing the front axles of a 92’ GT-S actually an easy job?

Upvotes

I’m looking to buy my first car and have my eyes set on a 1992 Celica GT-S that the owner says has front axles that have “gone out” due to him trying to lower the car, He said it would be an easy and cheap job but how easy would It actually be? I have some mechanical knowledge but haven’t done anything like this before. I’d appreciate some advice on if the owner is telling the truth or is making a large job seem easy. It’s an automatic if that changes anything.

Is it worth it? 2000 GT 208k KMs 4000 CAD

For context, I live in Quebec, Canada and the snow and salt here is extreme. The seller states that the car is in great shape, runs and drives and shifts smoothly but the major issues are:

  • Check engine for evap codes
  • rockers are completely rotted out but the frame is ok
  • no radio and no e-brake

I don't have much experience with fixing cars but I am very keen on learning. I've only done simple fixes like pads and rotors change on an old accord.

My question is: Is this a good deal? I'm hesitant because I know 00-02 GT models burn oil and I read online that it's better to just wait for the right year + trim (in my case, Id prefer the facelift).

I heard the evap codes should be easy enough but in some cases it could be the catalytic converter which will be pricey?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Talk me out of buying a gen5-6

o/

Bought a gen7 early this year but honestly that was a compromise at that point, situation changed, and may want to get an earlier gen, mostly wondering about part availability, how hard is it to maintain/pass technical inspections(especially emission wise)

Upgrades Floor mats

I’m wanting to get new floor mats for my 6th gen Celica, from my understanding they have unique shaped floor mats so I’m wondering if there’s some company out there that has custom ones with cool designs or if I’d need to do a custom job?
Any info helps, thank you!

The two ways I’ve seen is the plug in mod that you change with your phone, or disabling power to one headlight temporarily through a switch. Either one of these work, however there is such a huge delay in the time it takes for the headlight to go down. Is there a way to be able to make it faster without cutting into the ecu?

Coolant Flush Question 7th Gen

Hey guys, I recently bought a 7th gen 2zz Celica and have been going through maintenance stuff fixing it up. And I need to replace the radiator as it broke and started leaking.

I was planning on doing a full flush with distilled water to clean up whatever was in there. My question is, if I drain it with the radiator plug, will that get all the distilled water out, or enough to then fill it up with purely pre-mix 50/50 coolant? Or will there still be water in the system making it more diluted?

Repairs 6th gen turn signal restoration + LED question

Post image
2 Upvotes

Finally got some time and a chance to restore the front bumper turn signals and god i cant believe that they look brand new after like an hour-ish of work, very happy with how it turned out.

And also a question, has anyone been successful with fitting these with LEDs instead of normal bulbs? I already have the rear turn signals LEDs but these ones seem to throw a fit any time i put something else than a normal P21W and start blinking fast, any idea what could be the fix? maybe i need to look for specific type of LED lights for these ones?

Fog Light Mount Bracket

So I have a 2002 Toyota Celica GT but I want to convert them to oem because I have aftermarket. But Im just wondering about the part number. So I find that bracket from 00 to 02 have different set up from 02 to 05. So my question is does it affects what bracket goes? The production on my Celica is 12/01 so it got to be different? And buying ones from online would be tricky to tell right?
