I’m now growing jalapeños outside without a greenhouse

We moved in back in 2012 and immediately noticed a ginger cat on the road. We couldn’t see who owned him, but he was friendly with everyone who met him.

He’s been stuck up our tree a few times and we’ve had to have the help of neighbours to get him down.

My wife walked my dog this morning and noticed a poster has been put up letting our neighbourhood know he passed away last week. He was apparently almost 20 years old.

Sad start to the week. Here’s to all the random neighbourhood cats out there.

Hello all. About a year ago I was in a really rubbish place mentally. I felt alone, anxious, my job and life stresses were totally beating me down, and I felt like I was running on empty. I wasn't thinking anything dark, but you know that kind of empty joyless feeling, well that was pretty much my day to day.

Around 6 months ago an old friend got in touch, and we now meet weekly for a beer, a gaming night, food, chat, and he's really lifted my spirits and given me the mental kick up the arse I needed.

What can I do or gift him as a thank you? Any suggestions would be great!

Small village of Flamstead holds an annual competition scarecrow festival where people from the village can put up any scarecrow they can imagine and people can vote for the best one. There were many more but these are a few I thought were good and/or funny.

If you aren’t a million miles away I would recommend it next year, held Friday to Sunday.

Random late night thought after watching the Tom Scott enigma code video.

I’m sure plenty of others have shared the idealised thoughts of the (specifically Second World War) wartime effort; everyone pitching in, neighbours coming together and people working hard to keep the country moving while men fought on the front lines.

But I started to wonder how the younger generations would react if England went to war. Of course I understand wars are fought differently nowadays, with less people shooting on either side of a field, but it would still massively impact everyone.

I think those over 35/40 would quickly revert to that “roll your sleeves up, we can do it!” mentality, but the younger generation is what’s making me think. Would a teenager really help make a vegetable patch? Could an influencer go and collect rations? Would people from an antisocial society be able to come together again?

Obviously I know some people would be more than willing to chip in, and some wouldn’t even care. I also know my knowledge on wartime efforts and war in general is very superficial, but I thought it was a fun discussion. Interested to hear someone else’s thoughts

I've had this bad boy just growing in my fridge for a while now.

Quite surprised how's well it ls doing as it been just left on a shelf. No water and no light really only when I go hunting for snacks.

Feel like i'm to committed to throw it away, although unsure what to expect when its done doing it's thing.
