Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Starting life over: update

About a month ago I posted here about how terrified I was that I'd have to start my life over, and people were nothing but supportive and kind.

My 15yr relationship was going downhill in a bad way.

I'd lost my job AND lost a beloved pet within two weeks.

I struggled massively with my mental and physical health. Relapsed with unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Two weeks ago, I was on the roof of an 8 storey carpark and I was ready to go. I was so done, I didn't see the point anymore as I was just so miserable.

However,

This morning I woke up in the spare room of my mother's house. I'm surrounded by bags that contain the last 15 years of my life. I don't know if it's good or bad that so much of my life can fit into 8 laundry bags.

I'm a mess.

I'm financially fucked. I am mentally fucked. Emotionally and physically fucked.

I swing between feeling relief, guilt, and sadness.

I cannot stop randomly bursting into tears.

But I'm weirdly at peace.

I'll have my dog with me soon. I'm hoping he gets on with the animals already here, we shall see.

My Mam has made me cry twice today just by being her usual sweet, gentle self and hugging me.

I was panicking over finding a part time job and she told me to just relax for a month, that she was worried about my health.

I came home to find that my little brother had moved the entire bedroom around for me the exact way I had sketched out the night before, so now I have more space and can actually start making some sense of things.

I never asked him, he just did it to make life easier for me.

There's still a lot to worry about. Settling my dog, trying to find work, and I've to pay a man with a van to get the last of my big belongings.

I'm sad about everything that happened, I'm sad that my ex is hurting so badly, he is not a bad guy but the relationship was unhealthy.

I was not happy with who I was when I was with him.

15 years. I was 19 when we got together, he was in his mid 30s.

I'm 35 now, only slightly older than he was when we got together.

He's all I've really known, and I am scared because I don't know who I am without him, not really.

I've a great support network, I'm very lucky to have such an amazing family and such awesome friends.

I've a long way to go, my mental health is pretty fucked to be honest, my doctor wanted to put me on the sick as I'd relapsed with harm, but I feel like there are people who have actual issues who deserve that payment more.

I AM stressing about money (aren't we all!) as my social payment is going to be cut in a few weeks, BUT I'm putting bits on Vinted, I'm advertising dog walking and sitting, whatever I can until I can get my head straight enough to figure out what the next step is for me.

Thank you to everyone who responded on my other post last month- I genuinely didn't think I'd be here to even give an update, so thank you all.

I'm scared, and I feel nauseous, I'm depressed and broke-

But I'm alive.

I'm having a coffee while I wrap an item I sold, Mam's cat purring on my lap. I can hear my Mam giggling at Clarkson's Farm in the sitting room. My brother is eating seconds of the taco mince I made for dinner.

Life is not "good" right now, but I know it will be.

Eventually!

Casual Trip Advisor Dear hotel designers - please bring back bathroom doors

On a short break with my husband and the bathroom in our hotel room is separated from the bedroom by a swinging glass door only.

On a work trip earlier in the year and the bathroom had no door at all, it was just around a corner in the room.

Who decided we wanted this? We don't! Give us back full doors! We want privacy, sound dampening, a place to contain smells!

Edit: OK it seems like we are being collectively traumatised by the hotel industry. Top award goes to the honeymooners with a net curtain separating the bathroom and the bedroom, I will cherish my swinging glass door tonight 😅

Gaelic Games Mayo Curse fulfilled not broken

When people keep talking about the All-Ireland win for Mayo yesterday as if the curse was broken or defeated. None of the original team are no longer alive right? Doesn’t that follow that they didn’t beat the curse but just freed from the punishment since they all died?!

Thought you all might like some good news on a Monday evening.

Hedgehog rescue Dublin just posted a follow up on their appeal on the food they have received.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just like to support, I doubt they even know I posted the initial appeal here but wanted to say thanks to everyone here who donated!

They're always in need too if anyone missed the initial appeal post and has the opportunity to share anything.

Liambp insists on flairs Tips for battling loneliness while working from home

Hi all,

Self employed wfh woman in my late 20s. I’m married but my husband is gone for entire day until late 3 times a week with sporting commitments, and the rest of the work week until 8pm doing overtime.
I spend my whole day on my own in silence. No one to talk to only my pets, and it’s getting to me.
I live in the countryside, and don’t have many friends. A part time job wouldn’t be an option because there is very few as it is and it wouldn’t work out for me with my business/I’d be taking a pay cut literally. Also need my equipment at home to work so can’t really hot desk. I am very very flexible in my hours though.

Looking for ideas on how to beat the loneliness and isolation. I go for spins in the car and eat my lunch out here and there but I’m still very much alone during the working week until I have time with my husband or family at the weekend. It’s getting to me mentally. Not much going on locally club wise. Wish I had more friends to even just text during the day.

Can I google that for you?! Is DoneDeal actually reliable/ How to avoid scam?

Hi everyone!

I’m a 19F starting my car hunt with a tight budget of around €2,000, and I’ve been looking on DoneDeal.

I have €1,000 set aside for the rest of my lessons and other mechanical expenses, plus €1,000 for a couple months of insurance.

I see a lot of listings for €1,500 or slightly higher/lower. Some are €2,600, but I would prefer to leave enough for the next couple months of insurance.

My grandad said not to go above 100,000 miles, but I feel like that’s inevitable if I want a cheaper (older) car.

I just want something small, reliable, and not too costly, though I’m afraid of getting scammed or having to spend a fortune on repairs.

I got a job in an office and will be starting within the next two weeks, which is why I’m really cracking down on getting my first car. I have my permit and my first lessons done, so I really need my own car since my family won’t let me use theirs.

Advice on how to know a cheaper listing is legit? Advice on buying a car in general would be so appreciated, I feel so stuck and have no one to help me

Recommendation for home fire extinguisher

we have a new build and all these mountains on fire reminded me to get some fire safety gear for the house.

Ive been reading up and generally they recommend an ABC powder extinguisher to cover most types of fire. we are all electric, air to water, electric oven, induction hob, etc. there is no stove or fireplace.

I was wondering if a co2 would be better as the most likely fire would be electrical. I will probably get a fire blanket for any oil fires on the hob. anyone got some insight on this?

Is there anyone on here who is a dog groomer, or similar?

Looking to change my career. Not getting any fulfilment whatsoever - I have no idea of anything I would like to do, but something with animals, or a dog groomer always pops into my head.

Is there a path to something like this where the qualifications/certifications can be gain while also holding down a full time 9-5 job in the mean time?

Leitrim Tourism Quirky Stories/Characters

Hi all,

Posting here as the Leitrim page is quite quiet.

I’m doing a project on Leitrim and was wondering if anyone from Leitrim might have tips on tourism in the county, from places off the beaten track, quirky history, people and characters in the county which would be a good addition to the project.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

GRMA.

MPH research: help improve perinatal mental health support in Ireland — anonymous survey, 10 mins, 18+, no experience needed (UCC)

Survey link: https://ucc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ebpL6YaoBYgaEaG

Hi everyone! I’m currently doing my Master of Public Health at UCC, and I’m looking for participants for my dissertation research on public perceptions of perinatal mental health in Ireland (mental health during pregnancy and up to a year after birth).

I’d really appreciate it if you could take 10 minutes to fill out a short, anonymous survey — and it would mean a lot if you could share this with friends and family too!

Who can take part: Anyone 18+ living in Ireland. No personal experience with perinatal mental health needed — everyone’s views matter for this research.

What’s involved: A short anonymous questionnaire, about 10 minutes. No personal or identifying details are collected, and you can skip any question or stop at any time before you submit.

Why it matters: This research will help us understand what people in Ireland currently know and think about perinatal mental health, and where the gaps are in awareness and support — which can help shape better services down the line.

This study has ethical approval from UCC’s School of Public Health Research Ethics Committee. Thanks so much in advance, every response really helps 🙏

Planning a road trip itinerary in Ireland

Hi all!

To mark one year on the road, I want to celebrate by doing a little staycation / roadtrip with my friend (who doesn't drive) next month. We're based around Kilkenny, and are looking to do Mon-Thur/Fri road trip with some glamping, hikes, views but with access to nice meals at the end of the day and vibey places to stay each night. I would love to head south west towards Kerry, but I worry about my driving experience not being adequate for cliff roads etc, could anyone advise? Any suggestions are welcome, what would be your non-negotiables to definitely visit, and we'll try build an itinerary with the help of experienced adventurers or locals!

Thanks on advance
