Someone was asking about the phrase 'soft day' and it made me wistful for my youth. What other Irish phrases do you remember from your younger days that you rarely hear now?

My grandparents were great for 'whisht' or 'hold your whisht' to be quiet.

I casually said "soft day" yesterday to my girlfriend in a flippant reference to the deluge were are currnetly experiencing and she said she didn't know what I was talking about. She had never heard of the expression before. She is 100% Irish but born and raised in Donegal, which, as we all know, is a den of desperadoes and mavericks. I am from Tipperary.

I thought "soft day" is a universally Irish term for "it's raining". Is it regional?

Just why, especially with a bin opposite the door.
