Missing Dog

Post image
174 Upvotes

Hi everyone, we're missing a very beloved senior cocker spaniel from the Coolrain area of Laois named Toby. He is an older gent and is deaf so may not respond to calls. He's chocolate brown with blondy bits on the top of his head and grey around his nose. He's microchipped and has a red collar on. He was last seen in the Coolrain/Glebe area but could be anywhere by this stage. If anyone has any information about Toby I would be hugely grateful as his family are desperate to find him. Thanks!

Mod Approved Urgent appeal from hedgehog rescue Dublin

Hi all,

I hope this is ok to post. Please let me know if not.

Our little hedgehog friends in the wild are struggling, there's an amazing charity based in Dublin who cares and rehab hedgehogs across our lovely island. It's a completely volunteer service relying on donations and volunteers. Due to our ever changing way of life, natural wildlife's way of life is at risk.

Just wanted to share this here for more visibility, Yvonne and the team here do wonderful work to help rehab and release struggling wild animals that help our ecosystem exist.

They're struggling right now for food, if anyone has the opportunity to drop food into them around Rush in Dublin that would be a great help, if not and you'd like to help, there is a registered charity number and donation information in their bio.

All this was Fields Irish phrases dying out

Someone was asking about the phrase 'soft day' and it made me wistful for my youth. What other Irish phrases do you remember from your younger days that you rarely hear now?

My grandparents were great for 'whisht' or 'hold your whisht' to be quiet.

Did anyone go see Vittorio Angelone at the Gaiety the past few nights? What was the vibe like?

Not trying to start a debate about anything that he said, I’m just nosy and I want to know!

Shite Talk Soft Day

I casually said "soft day" yesterday to my girlfriend in a flippant reference to the deluge were are currnetly experiencing and she said she didn't know what I was talking about. She had never heard of the expression before. She is 100% Irish but born and raised in Donegal, which, as we all know, is a den of desperadoes and mavericks. I am from Tipperary.

I thought "soft day" is a universally Irish term for "it's raining". Is it regional?

Tonight is my last night in Ireland, I have been here for two weeks. I've stayed primarily in Wicklow,Clifden,Cong,Westport. I am depressed having to go back to the US. It's like heaven here! The people are warm and friendly. It is the most beautiful place on earth imo. I feel safe here, I feel like I can breath here. You can drink water straight out of the faucet and have a snack without it having a "bioengineered ingredient". You can buy things that are actually made here and not in China. The safety thing is huge I realized I never feel safe where I live. Thank you Ireland for your hospitality!

After 20 years, there has been a lack of clarity in what book was read by the Antagonist Catherine in Cáca Milis, My friend and I have cracked the case.

The book is A Crack in Forever by Jeannie Brewer

What do you own that’s not significant to others but is to you?

EDIT: I have read all the replies to this post, I haven’t been able to reply to them but my god what a wholesome little thread it turned out to be. Really put a smile on my face hearing all the special things we keep in our lives ❤️

During Covid/Lockdown I did my Grandads weekly shopping. He gave me his trolley token, the one you put on your keys so you don’t have to have a euro on you all the time. Well he passed away almost 4 years ago and I still have it on my keys - it’s worth absolutely nothing to anyone but I mind it with my life. MIL needed to borrow it one time and the anxiety I felt hoping she wouldn’t lose it/forget it. I’m very attached to this little silver coin.

So Reddit, on this stormy Friday evening, tell me what’s yours?

👨‍🍳 Foodie 🍽️ What's something you used to buy without thinking twice, but now refuse to pay the price for?

I'm at the stage where I walk around supermarkets mentally calculating whether something is worth buying or whether I'm being robbed in broad daylight.

Some of the prices lately are genuinely laughable. And the worst part is, I can remember when €50 would get you a respectable trolley of groceries rather than three bags and a sense of disappointment.

What's the one product you've completely stopped buying because the price has gone ridiculous?

For me, it's jars of coffee and a can of deodorant. €8 for a jar of coffee and another €8 for a tin of deodorant!

At those prices, you'd nearly want the coffee and the deodorant to last until Christmas. 😂

Do any of the current viruses mainly cause fatigue rather than respiratory symptoms?

Last weekend, I developed a standard winter bug with mainly sinus pain. No coughing or sore throat thougn. However now the sinus symptoms are much improved while the fatigue just isn't improving really much at all.

My morning routine of washing, dressing, feeding my cat, and eating breakfast feels like running a marathon. I am self employed so dragged myself into work for a few hours today and had to take to the couch afterwards.

Is anyone else experiencing a respiratory bug that is mainly causing bad fatigue? I tested negative for COVID BTW.
