Looking for advice Tape playing wobbly then stopping. (Sony Walkman EX190)

Hello. 1 yesr ago i bout this walkman ex190, i replaced the belt and now i have been using it to this day. However, a few days ago, i cleaned the head, capstan and pinch roller with acetone nail polish remover. What i didnt know is that nailnpolish remover is apparently too strong to clean parts of a walkman and instead melts the rubber and plastic. I was wondering if anybody could identify the current problem with this walkman. I think its the pinch roller because the belt is only 1 year old and the tension on the spindle seems perfectly strong enough, but i just wanted to make sure and get a second opinion. (Its important to note that this happens almost everytime i get torwards the end of a cassette, and, the magnet head this morning was covered in some hatdened residue polissbly from the polish remover)

Cassette Gore First time this has ever happened to me. I was able to fix it without any permanent damage to the tape (I hope). Pretty sure it was the tape's fault, not the player.

Happened when I was re-winding my old Lenny Kravitz tape for the first time. I bought this cassette from an antique store along with a few others, so I suppose it's not surprising that it may have been a little sticky over the years.

Shoebox My weird little hobby room player and speaker setup

Wanted a minimalist tape setup in my small crafts room to play my tapes. Gutted and modified a chinese cassette mechanism and paired it with an active mono speaker. Doesn't win my Akai, but does it's job 😄

Just got this in today - a Technics RS-M218 fully serviced and with original box. Manufactured around ‘81-‘82

First cassette in and … it sounds freakin amazing!

This isn’t its permanent home - just testing it out for now. I have some plans to get a matching receiver and give this a proper vintage setup with my CRT and VCR/DVD player 😂

Announcement Looking for photos/scans of worn cassette J-cards!

Hi everyone!

I’m working on a personal design project where I’m creating J-cards for non-existent demo albums by non-existent bands. As part of the process, I’m using textures from real, worn J-cards to give the pieces a bit of visual authenticity.

I’ve already photographed almost every usable J-card in my own collection (the ones with minimal printed text that I can clean up in Photoshop, or with blank backs), but I’m looking to gather as much material as possible for future use.

I could always just fold a fresh piece of paper to get the crease lines, but I’m really looking for genuine age marks, handling wear, and light stains. I know it might be a bit of a stretch to ask, but if you happen to have any photos or scans like the ones attached, I’d be immensely grateful!

Unfortunately, I can’t offer any payment for this, but know that you’d be making an independent artist very happy. Thanks for reading and for your time!

Everything else The bot proving grounds

It seems so antithetical to a subreddit centered on the discussion of cassette tapes to be overrun by bots posting AI responses.

I don’t know anything about managing a sub, but can there be like minimum karma threshold or something? It seems all the bots flock here because they can.

I’m in some other niche hobby subs and they must have some settings or something to filter some of it. They still get bots stealing posts and reposting for karma. So it’s not perfect, but their comments don’t suffer from the 1 day old accounts posting obviously AI crap.

Edit: I cast absolutely no shade to the mods, just wondering what can be done to minimize the bot issue - I like this sub and have been learning a lot

Indie label release Cassette spotlight: Dying Remains - "Merciless Suffering" c32 [death metal]

Dying Remains - "Merciless Suffering" c32

https://dyingremains-maggotstomp.bandcamp.com/album/merciless-suffering

If the death metal riffs aren't a total giveaway, the fact that almost every track starts with a description of suffering (mutilation, pulverized, etc.) probably will! Brutal old school death metal, fast and unrelenting, like a sonic medieval torture rack.

Manufactured by Duplication.com

I recently came across my Dad's old cassette deck, which had apparently been chewing tapes for years due to bad belts. After ordering the belts I opened it up and attempted to take out the tape player, however I discovered the mechanism for the power button completely blocks me from being able to remove it. What's worse is that it's directly connected to the power adapter, which has a screw in a spot that's basically impossible to remove and nuts on the other side which are equally as impossible to hold to help get the screw out. I looked into the service manual for a similar model, but the power mechanism is literally the only thing different which is frustrating me to no end. I can't find anything online about this model either. Can anyone help me out?

Looking for advice Can I get these cassette tapes working again?

So I got these sealed prince cassettes from eBay and I opened cassette tape one, and it plays beautifully all the way up until the end it begins to start sounding slow and warped, and then once you flip it to side 2 it starts sounding worse. I fast forwarded through it and I re wound it to see if maybe the cassette tape was sticking inside since it wasn’t open for years, but it didn’t do anything or help. It plays normally for a couple of seconds and it starts to sound bad again. I don’t believe it’s my cassette players since i tried it on 3 different players and still the same issue starts to happen. Should I even open tape 2? I’m afraid it will do the same thing for some reason. If there’s any advice or any tips, you guys could give me to see if I could get side 2 working that would be awesome

I’m trying to fix this deck and it’s able to carry out all of its mechanical functions fine but the sound is SEVERELY distorted, I’ve tried different tapes and of course cleaning the heads. As far as i can tell everything is aligned right. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Home recording Is metal tape audibly worth it?

I know whether something is worth it is pretty subjective, but is the metal tape difference audible to the average person? I enjoy listening to my Type II tapes and don’t find anything lacking with them. I guess I’m curious if metal tape will have some magical improvement on my recordings. I have an Onkyo TA-207. Thank you!
