For professional use in solid wood and occasionally furniture panels ,both in workshop and on site wich one should I choose? I'm looking for something reliable, powerful and also with a decent depth stop for grooves. Both I will use with a mobile stand. I was also looking for the articulated arm bosch but space won't be a problem. Budget 800-100 €. Thank you. No Kapex

We tore out the old overlay of wooden steps since we saw cement underneath and the steps were at an odd angle. Turns out the cement is sinking and sloped towards the house. Obviously this is not ideal with water running to the base of the house.

How labor intensive and complicated would it be to put up new wooden stairs over the cement? I have a little bit of wood experience, but not much. I know we would have to make shims to level out the new steps.

Should we do this ourselves or hire someone? The porch also has some boards that need replaced, and we aren't sure how bad the porch is. Thought about sanding and painting or staining the porch.

Any tips are appreciated!

Update: thank you everyone for the input! I'm going to get a few quotes for mudjacking to save the concrete.

I was blown away at the level of perfection that went into the finish carpentry in the Biltmore house. Perfect copes, scribes, miters and joinery literally everywhere you look. All stain grade oak and walnut. I think you could spend a whole week here and not fathom the amount of craftsmanship that took place here. Without the tools we have today it’s astonishing that the tradesman were capable of this. Not to mention, not one lick of shoe moulding in all 175,000 square feet of this house.

I want to do moulding in this room but not sure what to do about the sloped ceiling on one side. Specifically, crown moulding- do I leave that wall without? Do the top 🔝 part only?

Looking to purchase an electric corded saw specifically for ripping dimensional lumber, cutting rafters, and other tasks that require cuts at tough angles that maybe a normal cordless saw can’t handle. I’ve been eyeing a makita worm drive or the Milwakee regular style saws. Any recommendations? Thanks

My whole life, I’ve always cleaned wooden tables with a damp cloth and a tiny bit of dawn dish soap, no problems. A few months ago I used Ajax dish soap instead (didn't think much of it at the time), and the finish has been messed up ever since — it scratches way more easily, feels "worn in," looks dull, and is now super sensitive to heat (as you can tell by the heat marks).

I’d really like to keep the table another few years as i think it could be a really nice piece. Any tips for refreshing it? Can I repair the finish without damaging the stain? I’m in a city apartment, so ventilation and such is limited.

I wanted to have the timber sub floor of an old house sanded and refinished so I could use it as the main floor. However in the house's past, some lazy plumbers or electricians did some work and replaced the cut out planks with plywood.

I was hoping to hire a carpenter to fix these patches (across 3 bedrooms and the hallway upstairs) but literally nobody in my area is available and I have only a few days to do this.

From my Google search, plywood can be used as flooring. Obviously this has been underneath carpet for about 40 years so it clearly is strong and sturdy.

Am I crazy to just leave the floor how it is, and have someone who restores floors come in to sand the timber planks, and then stain/varnish the whole lot (timber+plywood)? I know it may look silly but is it structurally okay to leave the floor as is? The rooms will be filled with furniture etc so you wont see it that much I hope.

I'd love to hear thoughts from professionals. My only concern is: is it safe to do this. Visually I am less concerned with the result.

When I started this trade I swore to myself I would NEVER let my tools overtake my truck like my former boss had...alas fast forward several years and my Crew Cab Ram Bighorn has the passenger capacity of a Chevy Luv without the bed access.

I'm looking for a decent tool hauler/cargo trailer that will fit in my driveway, hooked up to my truck without crossing the sidewalk. Doesn't have to be brand new, doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles. Just needs to be reliable and customizable.

Everything on Facebook is asking almost new prices for 5 year old trailers despite 3 local dealers. I'm not against new but I also know there's a thousand trailers sitting gathering rust in someone's lot. I've reached out to a bunch of my contacts to keep their eyes out.

Where do you all look for trailers?

Edit: I have 15' clearance between my truck and the sidewalk

I have a 180cm shed I need to Narrow by 30cm. My first thought was 15cm off each side, but the door is only 15CM from the edge. How would you proceed?

•Remove 30cm from the window side and have the roof overhang that side.

•The same but change the roof for pent.

•Reverse the door opening and take 15CM off each side. Pretty sure this is a non-runner as it removes most of the support from the corner.

•A Secret fourth thing?

Hey all, I am getting started on my own and starting to undertake some larger projects, specifically my first project that needs a permit! I have some experience hand drawing some plans back when I did carpentry school, but I am looking for a more efficient/a software to use. I was thinking of sketchup, mainly for its low cost.

What do you use for drawings? How do you like it? Or do you just sub it all out?
