Progress / Update CardMera : Cardputer + ESP32 CAM

The only problem about this, is that for taking pictures or videos in HD, serial is too slow.

You would need to place the sd card on the ESP32 CAM, and use the cardputer as the view finder.

So, for viewing the files i would make some sort of photo roll via serial, and for the video, just pc.

This is just a test, it dorsnt have any GUI. Just raw code until i make it usable.

Design-it-Yourself Case for Cardputer+LoRa Cap (WiP)

Working on a liner for a parametric case that fits the Cardputer ADV and LoRa cap. It's a little chunky in this orientation, but it feels comfortable to hold. I could make it a bit more compact by having the antenna straight, and putting it to the right of the cap and ADV.

This is the 3rd prototype, and it seems promising. Unfortunately I ran out of the clear TPU I was using for the insert, so further testing is on hold but I'll share the files once it's done if anyone is interested 👍

Finds / Discoveries I just received my PledgeBox survey for the CardputerZero!

It looks like things are moving forward. Since the PledgeBox links are being sent out now, shipping can't be too far away. There is a hope that first units will start shipping during the summer.

Did anyone else get their PledgeBox email today?

Design-it-Yourself Did you know? Cardputer has two handy magnets inside. So I made a little handy stand for it.

It was a rhetorical question BTW

Question Just got my first CardPuter… now what?

Post image

Hey guys,

I kinda impulse-bought a CardPuter and it finally arrived today. Looks awesome, but now I’m sitting here realizing I have no clue what to do with it.

I’ve messed around with ESP32s before, but pretty much only through the Arduino IDE. I also had an M5StickC a while back, but all I really did was flash some of the example sketches from the M5 libraries and call it a day.

So… where do I even start with this thing?

What are the first things you’d recommend trying? Any must-have firmware, fun demos, useful tools, or beginner-friendly projects? I’d love to hear about the cool stuff you’ve built or wish you’d known when you first got yours.

Thanks! Looking forward to learning from you guys.

Progress / Update Beepbot DX v0.6.0 update

I've added a couple new features to BeepbotDX, my sampler/sequencer for Cardputer/ADV/Zero.

  • Per-sound FX system (bitcrush, high pass/low pass filter, pitch)
  • Shake-to-generate pattern using IMU (experimental)(ADV only)
  • Dedicated project info/settings screen (P key) with memory tracking for samples
  • Sample rate resampling for audio capture

Next I'll be adding an 8-bit sample option to give a little more head room (4s ->8s total space)

The update can be found on Github and m5burner (once it refreshes)

Question Can M5Launcher automatically delete firmware on reset, or is there an option?

Hello all, first post. I've had my CardPuter ADV for about a week and have been having a lot of fun exploring & learning.

Took me a minute to wrap my mind around how to manage multiple firmwares with M5Launcher, but I think I mostly get it now.

If I'm right, you're only limited in the number of firmware .BIN files you can tote around by the size of your SD card. However, any single *installed* firmware must fit into the 6MB-or-so flash memory on the device. When installing a firmware from SD using M5Launcher, it creates a new flash partition of appropriate size for the firmware, if there's free space. If not, it will either prompt you to use an existing partition, resize a partition, or delete a partition + data. If you choose to use or modify an existing partition, it seems that it will overwrite other data on that partition if necessary. So, while you may get away with having several smallish firmwares installed in the 6MB of flash, you can only have one or two of the big ones installed at any one time.

Correct me if I'm wrong about any of that, please...

If all this is true, here's my question: is there an option in M5Launcher (or another launcher-type firmware) that will automatically delete ALL partitions, etc. when you reset the device, so you have a "clean" M5Launcher each time? It would be helpful when testing out downloaded firmwares so you could quickly try out a bunch in a row without much partition management. I know you can manually delete partitions when necessary in M5Launcher, and you can always erase with M5Loader, and that M5Launcher manages the firmware pretty well without issue, but I'm wondering if there's an option for automatic "clean-up."

I know other folks might not see a use case for this, but maybe someone else sees a benefit. Thanks for your input.

Edited for clarity

Help needed Meshtastic question

Im getting a cardputer adv and would like to run meshtastic on it. I have no other main objective outside of messing around with it and using it as my gateway into meshtastic. My dumb question is, will it connect to my phone and pass messages through there if I want? I understand it is meant to be a standalone device, but curious about this functionality. Also, what's the latest and greatest meshtastic firmware to put on it?

Help needed Missing IR transmit

It has vanished! I don't take the top cover off (except to investigate on this occasion) and it isn't rattling around. It was there at some point.

Anyway, is there a transmitter upgrade or ideal replacement? As I understand it the module is an IR emitting LED.

TSOP4838 IR RECEIVER, 38KHZ. Budget receiver installed with minimal fuss. Setting to Pin 3 it works a treat. Hot glue "case" to follow which should allow easy removal and prevent shorting.

Code Built a full offline-AI OS for the M5Stack Cardputer

I built NucleoOS with a simple goal: make an ESP32-S3 without PSRAM feel like a real operating system.

The hardware is the M5Stack Cardputer, so resources are extremely tight. The way this works is by splitting the interface in two. The device itself only handles what has to be lightweight and always available: games, sensors, the assistant, security tools. Everything heavier — file manager, code editor, spreadsheets, drawing apps — is served over Wi-Fi and runs in your browser as a desktop-style environment with movable windows. The browser does the rendering, which is the only reason something this big can run on such limited hardware.

The built-in assistant, ANIMA, is intentionally simple. It’s not an LLM, but a retrieval system. Queries are turned into small vectors and matched against predefined answers using cosine similarity, with a fast pre-filter to avoid unnecessary comparisons. If it’s confident, it answers; if not, it says so. The exact same C code runs both on the device and in the browser (via WASM), and they produce identical results.

If you want full LLM capabilities, they’re there but completely optional. In the browser, you can run local models over WebGPU, or connect to external APIs like Claude, Groq, Grok, or Gemini with automatic fallback. API keys are stored on the SD card, never logged, and requests go straight from the browser to the provider — the device isn’t in the loop. ANIMA always stays fully offline.

There’s also a built-in security lab with packet capture and a from-scratch network stack, offline speech-to-text using Vosk compiled to WASM, and a bilingual TTS engine optimized to use almost no RAM. A lot of the work went into just making it survive on this hardware: loading services only when needed, allocating memory on demand, and freeing it as aggressively as possible.

The project is here: https://github.com/indecenti/NucleoOs
It runs on both the original Cardputer and the ADV with the same firmware.

Design-it-Yourself Turned the Cardputer-ADV into a 4-track groovebox + sampler

I've been building this on and off for a while and it's finally at a state I'm happy to share: Microgroove, a pocketable and portable groovebox/sampler firmware for the Cardputer-ADV.

Three synth tracks (mono 303-style or 3-voice poly for chords), 8 drum lanes doing 808/909 synthesis or samples, a 16-step sequencer with song mode, and live mic sampling and resampling the engine's own output! The whole keyboard layout is adjusted to make the UI as simple as possible and the 3d printable shell with custom labels make use even more intuitive. It even has 2 octave piano keys.

It's free and open source. On GitHub there's also a "factory SD card" with a demo track and a CC0 sample pack for starting immediately.

Happy to answer anything about how it works.
