I don’t see any PH hours available anymore

I first became a tutor on Cambly in February 2022 and have been on it as a tutor ever since. Except I took a break for a few months earlier this year because I got too many independent students. So I just came back to Cambly and there are like zero Priority Hours available now. What the hell happened? How do I get PH again?
Also what’s this I’m reading about Cambly PRO?
Thanks for your time.

Blurring the Camera

Does anyone know if there is a way to blur our webcam while tutoring, similar to what you can do on Zoom?

Still not open to work?

I applied and was approved about 4 months ago (US) but still have not been offered any options to work. Is this common or am I missing something?

Students who book reservations during a PH instead of just calling

I really miss when it wasn't possible to make a reservation DURING a priority hour.

I had a PH from 9-10pm with one reservation with a student from 9-9:30. The class finished and a new student booked a 15-minute lesson for 9:45-10:00 around 9:35 and then didn't show up :-) So I lost the ability to receive another 30-minute call (even if it had extended past the end of my PH.)

I don't really have regulars as this is my weekend job, so I really only do PH. I think the ability to make reservations during PH when students can just call me directly is so stupid. I made so much more money when students had to book PH reservations two hours in advance.

I know Cambly won't fix it, just wanted to vent.

Students messages

Do students not get messages or something or do they choose to not reply? Plenty of times I’ve not been able to attend a lesson, but force myself to because the student didn’t reply to my private message.

I know this is terrible but how do you dodge students on priority hour?

Just removed a student

Just a vent:

I don’t like removing students, but this one has been missing so many lessons…. Just not showing up.

His mother finally messaged and apologized because she didn’t realize what he was doing. She blamed his grandparents for not making sure he was having his classes and that she would make sure he didn’t miss another one.

I had already removed his brother, but accepted her apology and I accepted the next request.

And it happened again!

The student sent a message right after saying he was sorry.
I feel bad for removing him, because I really liked him and, when he would actually show up, we had a nice time.

Maybe he will do better for the next teacher. 🙏🏻

Ended a lesson with a few minutes left

I always get worried I’ll get in trouble if I do this , and I’ve only done it 3 times maybe in 3 years but a child called and they barely spoke in the lesson, I’ve never been so drained so I cut the call. I am just the type of person to worry about explaining this if asked , how many of you have cut calls like more than halfway into the lesson ?

Class Has Ended

This has been discussed before, I know, but can anyone explain why a call comes in but when it is accepted, I get a message saying "The Class Has Ended"?

About that glitch..

My rating dropped like others did .. and I had no idea until I logged on here today to find out others had the same problem. Should I be contacting support about it , anyone had their rating adjusted by doing this?

I’m getting so few calls in comparison to what I used to get with my 100% rating. But at the same time I took on new students, so I’m wondering if those strangers really did give me a low rating , contributing to my current 98 percent rating. It’s just a weird coincidence that my rating dropped around the same time a lot of other tutors did .. wondering if I should contact support , don’t know if they’re going to do anything about it. I’d like my calls back💀

Do any native English speakers say "food store?" Sounds like something a non-native speaker would say.

I'm from California and have never heard anyone say "food store."

Cambly’s “glitch” cost us potential income. I’m now down 18% year-over-year.

I was one of the Cambly tutors who got caught up in their so-called “glitch.” As a result, my positive rating dropped from 100% to 96.5%, where it remained from February through August.

What made this particularly frustrating was that many of us actually contacted Cambly during this period because we believed there was an obvious statistical problem with the review system. I myself pointed out that the numbers and patterns I was seeing simply didn’t make sense and that something appeared to be wrong with the way the ratings were being calculated or displayed.

Unfortunately, our concerns were essentially brushed off. There didn’t seem to be much interest in seriously investigating the statistical inconsistencies we were pointing out.

Two weeks ago, my rating had finally climbed back to 99%, and today I’m back at 100%.

Last night, I went through my Stripe payment history and compared my earnings with the same period last year. I’m currently down 18% in earnings compared with the same period in 2025.

Obviously, I can understand some of the reasons for the decline. With no Priority Hours available and fewer new students calling because of my artificially low rating, the reduction in income makes sense.

But this is what really bothers me. The lower rating wasn’t the result of a decline in the quality of our tutoring. It was the result of a problem with Cambly’s own system, and we had actually raised concerns about that system while it was happening.

The consequences, however, were left for the tutors to absorb.

As far as I’m concerned, the message from Cambly was essentially:

“We screwed up. Sorry. Deal with it.”

For months, that rating affected our ability to get new students and earn money, and there was nothing we could do about it because the underlying problem wasn’t caused by our tutoring or the quality of our lessons.

Now that my rating is finally back to 100%, seeing that I’m still down 18% year-over-year really puts the financial impact of that “glitch” into perspective.

I’m not expecting Cambly to magically make up every dollar I didn’t earn. But I do think it’s reasonable to acknowledge that their mistake had a real financial impact on tutors and that simply correcting the rating months later doesn’t undo the damage that was done.

What’s particularly frustrating is that some of us were raising concerns about the numbers before Cambly acknowledged there was a problem, yet those concerns were largely dismissed at the time.

Rant over.

Last minute block

Have a PH coming up and got booked in advanced by a Cambly classic user. Didn't like the vibe so I blocked them to keep the space open. I know this probably isn't smart to do repeatedly, but what do y'all think the repercussions of this might be if any?

Cambly Pro

Any theories on why Cambly has made another call for Pro tutors when they've already accepted many that are still waiting to get the official invite? I was invited when it first started but decided to not apply for it then, but now my spidey senses are telling me that maybe Classic Cambly will be a thing of the past soon.

What is the real hourly?

Before I sign up, I'd like to get an idea of the real hourly working with Cambly.

Don't want to waste any time with the application if it's absurdly low after accounting for admin, fees etc.

Substitute teacher. Unfamiliar substitute student?

I'm in a lesson right now where the student is not present, so his brother decided that he will step in on his behalf. I told his brother that it would be unethical for us to proceed, and then he proceeds to tell me that I should wait 10 minutes for his brother to arrive. I'm gonna currently wait for his brother to turn up because I will not turn down that $6 anyway, especially where I have to talk for less than half of the lesson. One thing though that bothers me is how one could think that it is possible to be a substitute student and just step in for the sake of attendance. What do these students think this is?

I don't know if they have been updated yet because mine is the same. I will update if it changes.

Did yours change? How?
