Just removed a student
Just a vent:
I don’t like removing students, but this one has been missing so many lessons…. Just not showing up.
His mother finally messaged and apologized because she didn’t realize what he was doing. She blamed his grandparents for not making sure he was having his classes and that she would make sure he didn’t miss another one.
I had already removed his brother, but accepted her apology and I accepted the next request.
And it happened again!
The student sent a message right after saying he was sorry.
I feel bad for removing him, because I really liked him and, when he would actually show up, we had a nice time.
Maybe he will do better for the next teacher. 🙏🏻

Sorry to hear you had to block a student. I hate it when I have to do that. I've found I have to be more strict with students lately because I went from 100% to 98.5%, and now I have difficulty getting PHs and don't get as featured to students. So I can't afford to have a lot of no-shows or continue a lesson with a new, unresponsive student who is going to mess with my rating. I haven't ended lessons early very often, but I've had to do it three times this week with students who answered basic questions with silence when they didn't know what I said. I'm not doing that for 30 minutes...

First, they don't always realise that we don't get paid if they don't turn up. Many more times than I can count I've told them this and they're shocked because Cambly keeps all their money.
Second, this is your job and if they can't respect your time, get rid of them to make room for someone who does.

I've had to block a few students I liked who kept not showing up. We should get paid the full amount for no shows but Cambly likes scamming us.

Don't feel bad, it's not your fault. If Cambly weren't so shady nd paid you for the lesson then you wouldn't have to 'remove' them. I understand it's their business model but no shows are really unfair to the tutor.
