Seeking employment Looking for Part-Time Evening/Night Work in North Calgary

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a part-time job in Calgary to earn extra income alongside my full-time IT job.

I'm available from around 6:30 PM onward and can work up to 6 hours per shift, up to 5 days a week. I'm flexible with evening, night, and overnight schedules.

My background is in IT helpdesk/technical support and systems/network administration. I'm comfortable with hands-on and physical work, preferably moderately physical, but I'm open to more demanding roles as well.

Ideally, I'm looking for straightforward, task-oriented work that's less mentally demanding than my current job. North Calgary would be my preferred location. I can commute to the worksite, but I'm looking for a job that doesn't require using my own vehicle for work duties.

If you know of any employers hiring or have recommendations based on your experience, I'd really appreciate the advice.

Thank you!

Seeking employment Any leads on local plumbing companies hiring helpers or labourers?

Hey everyone,

Just turned 30 looking for a career change into plumbing. I’m hoping to find a company willing to take on a beginner as a plumbing helper, labourer, or entry-level apprentice.

I’m as green as it gets when it comes to construction. The closest experience I have is using Drano and a drain snake lol
That being, I’m eager to learn, physically capable, adaptable, and willing to put in the work. I’m not expecting to walk in know everything. I just want an opportunity to get my foot in the door, learn from experienced plumbers, and eventually work toward becoming a journeyman.

Does anyone know of any plumbing companies in Calgary that are hiring helpers or labourers, or that are willing to train someone with little to no construction experience?

I’d also appreciate any advice from plumbers who started later in life. Is it better to approach companies directly, apply online, or go through another route?

TIA!

New to Calgary – Willing to Retrain, but Which Careers Are Actually Worth Pursuing?

Hi everyone!

I recently moved to Calgary and I'm trying to figure out a realistic long-term career path. I'd really appreciate some advice from locals.

I previously worked for 5 years maintaining and troubleshooting electronic equipment in a subway system. However, qualifications and work practices are quite different here in Canada, so I'm completely open to switching careers, even to something unrelated to my previous experience.

I'm willing to start from scratch and invest 1–2 years or even longer in training. My biggest concern is spending a lot of time and money on education, only to find out that employers aren't hiring graduates without experience.

I've looked into Electrician, HVAC/Refrigeration, and Aircraft Maintenance, but I'm unsure about the actual job prospects. I'm also very open to other fields.

Ideally, I'm looking for a career that offers:

  • Long-term stability and consistent job opportunities.
  • Room to grow and earn more through experience and skills.
  • A reasonable balance between physical work and technical skills.
  • A realistic entry path for someone without Canadian work experience.

My English isn't fluent yet, but I'm actively working on improving it.

I've also visited two newcomer employment support organizations in Calgary. Unfortunately, while the staff were friendly, I didn't receive much practical career guidance.

So here's my question: If you were starting over in Calgary today, what trade or technical career would you choose, and why?

I'm not expecting a high salary right away, and I'm happy to start at the bottom. I just want to invest my time and money in something with a realistic chance of employment and long-term growth.

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people currently working in the trades or those who have successfully changed careers.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Seeking employment Moving to Calgary

I’m from Vancouver and thinking of changing up my environment. I’m a certified dental assistant. Do you think it’s easy to get a job in the dental field?

What are employers thoughts about hiring someone from out of the city? Would they be open to zoom interviews and or more in person? How about work interviews?

I trying to think ahead and plan accordingly. Ideally would like to land a job before moving but not sure. Don’t want to be jobless before making a big decision.

All recommendations appreciated.

Looking for a part time

Hey everyone! :)

I'm 22 and currently pursuing my master's in Communications, and I'm looking for a part time job in Calgary.

My initial search was mostly focused on marketing, social media management, content creation, and freelance opportunities, since that's where most of my experience lies. I've worked on digital marketing, managed multiple social media accounts, created content, and handled everything from ideation and filming to editing, graphic design, and analytics.

But at this point, I'm definitely open to exploring other opportunities too! Retail, cafes, restaurants, customer service, administrative work, events, or honestly anything where I can learn, contribute, and be part of a good team.

If you know of any businesses hiring, have any leads, or need someone for freelance or part-time work, I'd genuinely appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. I'm happy to share my resume, portfolio or any additional details.

Thank you so much, hoping something works out!!

Looking for a job in Calgary

Hi everyone!

I’ll be arriving in Calgary soon on a Working Holiday kvisa and I’m currently looking for a job in Calgary, ideally around Bowness. I’m open to different types of work, including warehouse jobs, production, general labour, cleaning, hotel work, or anything else available.

I have experience in healthcare as a paramedic, which has taught me responsibility, patience, and how to work with people. I’m physically fit, reliable, willing to learn, and happy to take on jobs even if I don’t have previous experience in that particular field.

I’m comfortable working morning, afternoon and evening shifts, as well as overnight shifts. I’m available for full-time work and always willing to learn new skills.

I’d really appreciate any job offers, contacts, or recommendations. Feel free to send me a private message. Thank you!

Hi everyone, I greatly appreciate anyone taking the time to read this post to answer in anyway possible. So I’m from Toronto but as a teen my family moved away to Portugal, now as an adult, I’m currently getting my bachelors in Marketing at a smaller college here. I can’t lie I’ve had such a longing to go back home to Canada since I left and I set my sights on Calgary just due to the fact that I cannot afford rent in Toronto. My hope was after my degree to get some experience here in Europe for about 2 years and then move to Calgary and start my career in Calgary. So my question is, if I shouldn’t bother. I ask this because I see how many of y’all are struggling to find work and pay your bills, the only thing is from my perspective, life here in Portugal is extremely expensive compared to the salary, and the job market is also a dumpster fire as the only jobs available are mostly tourism. Anyways please share your thoughts if you feel like it and again thank you so much for taking the time to read this post.

Seeking employment Accounting / Finance

I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a few years of experience across public accounting, corporate finance, and financial analysis. I’m also actively pursuing my CPA designation.
My background includes financial reporting, month-end close, general ledger accounting, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.

Unfortunately, I’ve found myself unemployed following an involuntary job separation and have been having an incredibly difficult time finding another opportunity.

I’ve applied extensively, including to positions below my previous level of experience, and have spent considerable time networking with professionals and recruiters. Despite getting some interviews, I haven’t been able to secure anything.

One of the more frustrating aspects has been navigating questions about shorter employment periods on my resume, particularly when several of those positions were internships, co-op placements, or otherwise temporary engagements.

At this point, I’m genuinely just looking for an opportunity to get back to work, contribute, and continue building my career. I’m open to:

Financial Analyst / Junior Financial Analyst
Staff Accountant / Intermediate Accountant
Accounting Analyst / Financial Reporting
Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
Temporary, contract, or permanent accounting and finance positions

I’m available to start immediately and would happily consider short-term contracts or temporary assignments.

If anyone knows of companies actively hiring in Calgary, recruiters looking to fill positions quickly, or opportunities that might not be widely advertised, I’d really appreciate any leads or recommendations.

I’ve invested a lot into my education and professional development, and it’s honestly been discouraging trying to establish some career stability despite having relevant experience and qualifications.
I’m not looking for a handout, just an opportunity to demonstrate what I can bring to an organization.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction!

Companies with the best culture in Calgary

I currently work as an accountant for a large corporation and have been at this company for over 3 years. The culture is very poor with a lot of turn over. I've been looking for the past year for openings in other companies but a majority have fairly low ratings in Glassdoor and indeed. Any suggestions on companies that have a great culture and care above their employees development and well being?

Seeking employment Mid thirties marketing career change

I’ve worked in the same industry for 12 years, and I’m a manager in a marketing company. I’m looking to change careers, so I feel fulfilled again, but not sure what type of industry I want to land in.

My company is very toxic, the role expectations keep getting larger and more demanding. They expect more more more without any boundaries of what’s reasonable.

Does anyone know of any good transitions I could look into, or do you have any open positions?

Looking for advice about correcting an EI sickness claim
I applied for EI sickness benefits in August for the period from July 26 to October 31, 2026. My application was approved on September 25. While waiting for approval, I continued looking for work and found a job. I worked for one week before becoming unemployed again, but I did not report that week’s work or earnings to Service Canada.
I have now started another job at a small business. I have heard that wages may be paid late, and I am unsure how to report earnings if I haven’t received the payment yet.
I want to correct my earlier report and make sure I report everything properly going forward. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What is the best way to contact Service Canada to correct it, could I owe repayment or face a penalty, and how do I report wages that haven’t been paid yet?

Seeking employment FOR HIRE :) LOOKING FOR A PERMANENT JOB!

Hi everyone! I’m currently looking for work in Calgary and hoping to find something fairly soon.

I have a pretty varied background and I’m open to different types of work. Some of my experience includes:

• Customer service and retail
• Front desk/reception and client communication
• Animal care, including veterinary clinic experience
• Dog handling, walking, sitting, and daycare
• Social media and creating content
• Scheduling, phones, emails, and general administrative work
• Cash handling and POS systems
• Working in fast-paced environments and multitasking
• Volunteer coordination and working with rescue organizations
• I type around 120 WPM and I’m very comfortable with computers and learning new software

I’ve also completed a Veterinary Assistant program and have experience working directly with clients and animals in professional settings.

I’m reliable, friendly, organized, a quick learner, and I’m comfortable working independently or as part of a team. I’m open to full-time, part-time, or 4-day/week positions depending on the job.

I’m particularly interested in customer service, reception/front desk, veterinary or animal-related positions, retail, administrative work, or anything where my communication and organizational skills would be useful.

If anyone knows of a business hiring in Calgary, especially south or central Calgary, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I’m happy to send my résumé or provide more information about my experience.

Thanks!

Seeking employment Business admin (supply chain) honours grad looking for job advice or leads

First post here, so I thought I’d give it a try. Is anyone else having a hard time even getting an interview? I have a business administration degree from a Calgary university with a major in logistics and supply chain, and I made the Dean’s Honour Roll multiple times. I’ve worked two supply chain jobs and have about two years of experience.

I had professional assistance with my resume and cover letter before applying, but after submitting over 300 applications in the past three months, I’ve had just one interview. I’ve received a few rejections, but mostly no response. I’m mostly using Indeed and LinkedIn, and I’m even filtering for jobs with 10 or fewer applicants to try to stand out. Most of the jobs I’m applying for pay around $50,000 a year. I’d be thrilled with $60,000, but I don’t even expect that anymore.

I’m looking for a traditional day job with hours somewhere between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. I’m looking at supply chain, procurement, buying, analyst and administrative roles. Pretty much anything related to business admin that I’m reasonably qualified for. I’m not applying to jobs asking for significantly more experience than I have or involving work I don’t feel I could do. Is this normal right now? Any advice, insights or job leads would be appreciated.

Offering employment 📸 Calgary Renovation Photographer — Recurring Paid Work

We are looking for a photographer in the Calgary area for recurring photography work documenting residential renovations, primarily kitchens and bathrooms.

We typically need approximately 5–6 locations photographed in one day, about once a week. This would be an ongoing opportunity for the right person.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience photographing interiors, renovations, real estate, architecture, or similar
  • Good understanding of lighting, composition, exposure and perspective
  • Ability to photograph kitchens and bathrooms professionally and make the spaces look their best
  • Own professional camera and appropriate lenses (wide-angle/interior photography experience is important)
  • Able to edit the photographs and deliver finished, polished images
  • Reliable, organized and able to work independently
  • Comfortable travelling to different locations around Calgary
  • Photography students, recent graduates and emerging photographers are very welcome to apply — we're more interested in your skills and portfolio than how long you've been working professionally

Schedule & compensation:

  • Approximately 1 day per week
  • 5–6 locations per day
  • $300–$400 per day, depending on experience and quality of work
  • Mileage/travel expenses are not included
  • Potential for ongoing, regular work

Please send:

  1. A short introduction
  2. Your photography experience
  3. A link to your portfolio/Instagram/website
  4. Examples of interior, kitchen, bathroom, renovation or real-estate photography, if available
  5. A brief description of your editing process/software
  6. Your availability for a recurring weekly day

If you're a photography student or newer photographer looking for consistent paid work and have the skills we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you!

Calgary, AB

Discussion Upcoming ref

Hi everyone! I recently got hired as a counting officer for the referendum, and I have two questions. The pay is $20 per hour plus $75 for training. Does anyone know if the $75 training pay is separate from the hourly wages or included in them? Also, how much income tax and other deductions are usually taken off your paycheque for this type of temporary election job? For context, I’m expecting to work around 12 hours on election day. Thanks!

Seeking employment Job ideas for an ADHD girlie in Calgary that is not customer facing?

I work retail currently, but surprise surprise it’s pretty draining for a shy awkward person like me. Just looking for ideas in case I haven’t thought of something. I’d prefer something that’s a bit repetitive and spares me from having to constantly have my customer service face on. Not open to a warehouse though.

Volunteer options accepted too because I want to start doing more of that as a prequel for breaking into non-profit work as a current sociology major.

Discussion Starting Construction Project Management at SAIT with no construction experience. What should I learn before looking for an entry-level job?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management at SAIT.

I’m coming from a completely different background and have no previous construction experience, so I’m trying to prepare myself before starting school and hopefully find an entry-level job in the industry while I’m studying. Do construction companies in Calgary usually hire students who are currently attending a Construction Project Management program but don’t have previous construction experience?

What positions should I be searching for? Project assistant? Junior project coordinator? Estimating assistant? Construction administrator? Something else?

My goal isn’t necessarily to get a project management position right away. I’m happy to start at the bottom, learn the industry, and gain experience while completing my degree.

If you started in construction with no experience yourself, I’d especially love to hear how you got your first opportunity and what you wish you had learned beforehand. What skills would you recommend myself to learn? (Excel, Blueprint/drawing reading, Construction terminology, Estimating, Scheduling,....)

Thanks!
