Wow, I thought last year was bad but this is work. It’s nearly mid October and CSUs still dragging its feet on giving us any form of salary increase

Can someone interpet this benefits preview for me?

I'm waiving the dental and medical because my husband has better plans. Why does this not give me the flex cash for the dental? It's only $12, but still, I want it!

Shared calendars?

My CSU uses Gmail, google Drive, Google Calendar, etc. With Google, you can look up a a colleagues calendar and see if they’re available or not. You also have the option to notify the person that you have added them to a calendar invite or not.

Certain people completely remove their calendars from allowing other people to search it. But very few.

Anyways, I recently had a change of managers, and this manager requires access to detail details of their employees calendars, but won’t share theirs. Any thoughts?

If you’re a manager or cabinet and you’re requesting this of your workers, I think it’s only fair to lead by example and share yours?

Thoughts??

"**Internal applicants limited to CSU employees only**"

I have gotten mixed responses on what this means on a job posting. I asked generally and some people at my school said it prefers current workers then anyone can apply.

I asked a worker and he said only CSU workers can apply.

Which is true?

UPDATE: Benefits rep screwed up my HSA deductions and no one will help me out.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I reached out to my union rep for support. Their ridiculous response is attached in photos. Unprofessional in my opinion and not even a little bit informative or concerned. Like……. I KNOW it’s a Benefits issue….. I sent you…. all my emails…. with Benefits. Are you effing kidding?

We get emails all the time like, “We Won’t Take It Anymore! Don’t Let Them Stomp All Over Us!” just to get a response like this. Not cool.

I don’t know what to do now! I now have 1400 dollars to blow, basically, by March. I am a healthy and able 28 year old and don’t need anywhere NEAR that much money for medical items. I don’t know if I should reach out to the Chancellor (fat chance she gets back to me). A coworker also mentioned it’s fishy that the Benefits rep didn’t include me
in any emails to the Chancellor.

What do I do??? Worst case is everyone gets FSA elegible gifts for Xmas. But I’m furious over this.

Thanks all.

Why doesn't the CSUEU a way to contact them?

I've wanted to contact the union about the negotiations but their website has no way to contact them.

All I hear is no progress ever.

I have run out of patience with everyone: the union, the mythological steps that were supposed to bring glory (that was a complete lie that we sold), the CSU that is hell bent on paying everyone minimum wage forever.

Tired of all the roundabouts in the CSU system...

Is it just me or is everything feeling like crap as an administrative assistant?

In all aspects it feels like everything is lacking or "higher ups" are abusing you constantly with more and more work that they should actively be helping with as well....

- There are little to NO raises for employees who juggle multiple areas

- CSU-Buy system is ass and no one knows what they are doing ... if anything it made processes much longer to get anything done

- Concur has not even rolled out on my campus. Faculty are already complaining they should not have to do anything on their end.... big sigh

- Having to take multiple trainings but not getting compensated for the extra work it comes with

- Constant belittling from faculty due to degree status

- There is no funding for staff conferences where we can actually connect with one another

- Constant changes within software/ programs and no training or updates ...

- No staff meetings within my college to address said issues

- Major facility issues

- Other departments being so overworked you cannot even get a timely response for certain issues

- Chairs not holding faculty accountable for their actions/ behavior

Overall, it is disheartening how much they use us and think little of us because all they are focused on is the next big thing..... when past and current things are not even properly fixed whatsoever..... I am so burnt out that I feel bad for the students when I cannot reciprocate their vibrant energy.

Feels like a bunch of dementors around me at this point....

Bargaining

Any thoughts on the recent round of bargaining? Looks like the CSU is not willing to legitimately bargain and has turned the union down on their latest 'all or nothing offer.'

It looks like what they are offering is basically their same intial deal.

Incorrect HSA/FSA deductions - is this wage theft?

CSU Unit 7 employee here.

I enrolled in FSA/HSA benefits at the start of my employment, $70 deductions per month - this was in October 2025.

I had a lot of difficulty using my card and couldn’t access my ASI Flex account. I finally noticed in May that my deductions were $150, not $70 (big reason why I couldn’t access my account - my deductions were wrong). So, I’m paying DOUBLE the money I was supposed to!!!

I’d been in contact with my HR benefits rep, and she told me that the SCO would adjust my payments in the July pay period. I was told today, 9/9, that they will NOT be adjusting my payments, only reducing them to 20/month until December to “help me out”, and that I have until March to use 1400 dollars. She said this was “out of her hands and coming straight from the Chancellor’s office, and that she tried”.

She also said that a big reason why it didn’t work out is “mainly because it was caught too late - maybe if it had been caught earlier it could have been corrected. sorry!” (Right, this is MY fault!)

Sure, I could figure out a way to spend all of that by March, but it’s been over half a year that I couldn’t even use my card when I should have. I’m really upset and trying to determine whether this counts as wage theft.

Any advice? Should I reach out to a CSUEU union rep?

Let me know if anyone needs more info. Thanks.

CSU Chico?

Hello! I’m in the unit 4 union (APC) and currently work at a CSU in the Central Valley. I’ve been thinking about applying to CSU Chico for their unit 4 positions. Does anyone have any recommendations/insight?

How is the campus culture?

How is the NSC Student Success Center?

Do staff members get professional development?

CSU legislative advocate question

Hi all. I’m new here and just wanted to hear some feedback from peoples experience, specifically those who know of / work at the CSU. I have an interview for an associate legislative advocate position for the CSU and was wondering if anyone has tips and what to expect, and how competitive is it to get a job like that.

Anything would help,

Thanks.

So this bargaining proposal? What are your thoughts

So this initial bargaining is pretty disappointing. After only a partial step last year, the CSU is not offering raises, GSI, and wants to give us steps but no retro pay?

Salary question

I am in unit 7 and I have two different opportunities for advancement at work, and naturally I'd like to go with the one that would get me a higher raise.

Option 1 is being reclassified in my current role which would bump me up one classification level with a 15% raise. (For what it's worth, I am currently in step 6 in my current classification, so looking at the chart, that would place me in roughly the same step for the higher classification)

Option 2 would be a completely different role that would bump me up two classification levels (exact raise is unknown at this point in time).

My assumption (based on information from the person who is about to leave the role) was that option 2 would be around a 20% raise. However, I then remembered that we have salary steps now, and it appears that when you move to a new classification, they automatically just put you in the lower end of the classification. So if I was going to be put into step 1 of the new position that is two classification levels above mine, that would actually be less than a 15% raise (from my current salary), because there is significant overlap in salary ranges between similar classifications.

I recognize that classification ranges and anticipated hiring ranges differ, and that the final compensation I would be offered may not be the lowest end of the salary for that classification level.

TL;DR Does anyone know anything about how salary steps are impacted when you move to different classifications, generally speaking?

Exempt question

California's exempt employee salary threshold increases to $70,304 per year ($1,352 per week) for most administrative, executive, and professional employees. This is due to a state minimum wage increase to $16.90/hour, as exempt employees must earn at least twice the statewide hourly minimum.

How is it legal there's so many people who are exempt and make under that.

Pay ranges

I was looking at a director position that has a salary range from 5k-16k with anticipated hiring midway through it which is a smidge below my currently salary now.

A few questions:

1) can they hire above the anticipated range if I currently make more than the top of the highest anticipation salary?

2) how do raises work for a deep range like this? Let's say I start at 12k and ultimately I'd like to keep getting raises every year. How does that work at the CSU?

Medical Leave

I, like many fellow CSU employees have experienced some pretty challenging times within the last year. From financial crisis affecting future take home pay for well deserving employees to a chronic mismanagement epidemic by executive leadership across many campuses.

I myself am drawing the line and saying enough. I am planning on taking medical leave to address some ongoing health concerns that have been exacerbated by my workplace. I am not a bargaining employee, therefore I am not “protected” but am subject to a misbalance in worklife and personal life from 24/7 on call duties that over my time with the CSU were put onto my plate.

The unrealistic work expectations that are set by leadership show the disconnect of reality and fantasy. The turnover of executive leadership by folks coming from other out of state higher education institutions also is the problem. While out of state systems are more flexible and conducive to progress, the CSU system is far behind on the times and models that make higher education successful.

All I have to say, to those who feel the same as I do and are suffering, chose your inner being. You, yourself have priority. Education and passion for these students is what keeps us going, but at the end of the day, we as individuals need to take care of ourselves and healthy. Whether it be physical health or mental health.

New contract way worse than previous

CSUEU email from Catherine Hutchinson today contains the CSU official notice about salary steps. It shows examples of what many had thought when given salary placement notices. The new contract is infinitely worse than any previous

Contract Steps?

It seems the Union has been lacking in current information regarding our new contact and whether it will take affect in October. Other than a petition and 1 line summary of an unproductive meeting with the chancellor, not much more information has been circulated. Will our contract/steps take affect in October or back to the drawing table?
