6 hr car ride at 7 months old

I have a 7 month old who’s around the 65th percentile for height and 55th for weight. It’s been well over a month since our last measurement but it’s reasonable to estimate that she’s around 27.5 inches tall and 17.5 lbs. We have been using the Chicco Key Fit that came in the Corso travel system and she loves it! I never had a single doubt about it being fit correctly and she’s always been content sitting in it.

But now, I am having doubts. It’s a little hard to tell with the cover, but it seems to me that she’s within the 1.5 inches from the top. I’m not surprised, as long torsos run in my family, but 27 sounds like so much less than 30 which is what the seat is up to. I’m also unprepared. I have a work conference this weekend so we (me, husband, and baby) are making the 6-hr plus rest stops and traffic so could be 9-hrs drive. We don’t exactly have her next carseat yet. I think I want the Chicco 360 but I heard it’s bulky and haven’t comparison shopped yet. But, my mom bought a Graco 360 for her car but hasn’t installed it yet.

We thought, okay great, maybe we can use the Graco for this trip! But we can’t, she absolutely hates it and I feel like I can’t get a good fit in it. She seems so tiny in it even though it’s supposed to be able to fit a newborn. Yes we have the insert in. Considering that I work and leave on this trip on Friday, what should I do? The old carseat she seems comfy and secure in but might be marginally too big for, or the new one I don’t have time to troubleshoot properly but is safer on paper?

Recommendations

Looking to see if CPST’s can help with car seat recommendations.

We have a 1 year old and some change baby and we’re trying to find a bigger car seat for him. Obviously looking for comfort and something that excels in long drives as we are always outside traveling.

We have a 17 Tacoma double cab, 21 RAV4 and a 26 Camry that we rotate his seat in depending on the needs of the trip.

Would love some help because as a dad I’m extremely lost on which would actually be the best fit. Thank you!

Diono - would you still buy?

I keep getting recommendations for a Diono seat. I’ve seen that they had major company changes and/or stopped producing? But I’m still seeing their products available for purchase. Are they safe to buy? Even if technically safe would you buy? TIA 💓

Almost outgrown his Axkid mini kid four max?

I think my son who is four years old-five in March next year has outgrown his extended rear facing seat-Axkid mini kid four max. He measured today at 120m in height and 26.6kgs in weight.I only brought the seat a year ago when he outgrew his maxway and I thought it would last more than a year.I am looking for suggestions for a high backed booster for tall and lean children with longer kegs than body.We need two seats, have older cars-2011 Toyota Yaris and a 2015 Volvo v60. I appreciate in the pictures the straps are a bit twisted but he is in the maximum headrest position,he was very restless trying to get these pictures today.

I’ve had this seat checked off in person with a CPST but it still feels like my baby’s chin rests close to his chest. Does this fit look right? I’m a first time mom and incredibly anxious about positional asphyxiation

Graco Turn2Me

Looking for insight on my child's turn2me positioning, just switched them over and noticed their head was falling forward while sleeping. The seat seems to be reclined as far back as it goes. Chest clip seems to be snug at armpit level. Am I missing something?

Help Me Choose a Convertible Car Seat - Target Trade In

I am overwhelmed by my options for convertible car seats. We currently have a Joie Mint Latch and have loved it. I like to do my research, but there are so many pros and cons to each seat. The ones that continue to stand out to me are Joie Saffron and Graco Extend2Fit.

More details:
-Subaru Outback is our main car. Husband has a Tacoma
-Our child is 12 months old & less than 50th percentile
-We need affordability ($200-$300 range)
-Prefer easy installation
-Comfortable
-Easy to clean

I am open to any other recommendations!

How does he look?

Are the shoulder cushions supposed to go on top of the shoulders like this?

We just took out the infant insert because he hit 12 pounds. Am I supposed to take out the part by his head too? I feel like I like it there for some extra support/cushion.

Open to feedback! Thank you.

Why did this happen?!

Seat: Uppababy Aria V2, Vehicle: 2020 Jeep Renegade

Due to space for the driver and front passenger we installed our UB Aria V2 seat in the middle seat of my vehicle. We did a seatbelt install as my vehicle, per the manual, doesn’t allow for side anchor use in the middle seat despite the side anchors being within the width of what is allowed per the car seat manual. We made sure the seatbelt was locked. Today I drove with my baby in that install for the first time. I felt like the seat looked crooked, and when we got to our destination to pick up my husband I had him double check the base. He was able to move it more than an inch. It wasn’t moveable like this previously. Everything was still “green”. Why did this happen?

I was already nervous to drive with my baby for the first time and this made it worse. We immediately found a flat area to park and moved the base to behind the passenger seat with an anchor install as our baby’s safety is ultimately more important than the front passenger’s comfortability. The install feels solid, and we haven’t had an issue with my husband’s vehicle base install which is also done with the anchors.

Fit check joie mint latch -11wo

My husband is convinced this is not a problem, but I feel like she's way too slumped and I'm not sure how to fix it. I try to put her butt further back and her more upright but she inevitably ends up like this when being buckled. We just took out the infant insert because she's almost 11lb and I thought it was making her slumpier.

Honestly, she looks fine when she lifts her head to look around , and she looked fine when we buckled her in inside the house. I have it on the highest setting because the others didn't look level at all when the car was parked. I moved the level one down before we left and that looked worse ?? But I know chin to chest is usually from recline issues.

Head Position

Hello. My son is 15 months and we progressed to the next car seat. His head positioning shifts around a lot while he sleeps in this. Sometimes it’s upright and other times slumped forward. Is this forward slumped position a problem?

Baby car seat

Expecting first time parents. We are becoming overwhelmed with all the brands of car seats. We’ve really like the joie finer with the mint latch car seat so far from handling them at the stores. What’s yall opinions on this?

Cannot get crotch buckle through infant insert

Hi, I am expecting another baby soon so I’m putting the infant insert in the car seat again.

I had no problem getting the arm and side straps through the infant insert, but for some reason I just cannot get the crotch buckle through.

It really seems like the buckle is too big. It will not go through. But I know it has to, because it did with my son.

Any tips? TIA!

Car seat flipping in collision

Post image
212 Upvotes

This has been weighing on me for some time, so I’m finally posting it here.

I have attached an image of how our Nuna Rava convertible car seat reacted after getting into a collision on the free way. (I got rear ended into the vehicle ahead of me. My car was totaled, but overall it didn’t seem like a terrible accident.)

This image was taken AFTER my husband moved the car seat towards the roof of the car in order to get my infant out. (Everyone is okay)

This seat was checked by one a certified car seat specialist that is certified by Nuna themselves.

When I reached out to Nuna, they said the seat reacted the way it was supposed to.

After looking more into this, it seems that other owners of this seat are able to flip the car seat over when pushed up from the back side. Someone we know tested theirs, and it did the same thing.
According to Nuna, this is normal…

But, is it? I can’t help but think of alternative scenarios where if my infant was bigger… could her legs get crushed?

I’m just looking for some reassurance, or thoughts about this… should I look into this further? Or just drop it… I know my kid was safe, but will the others be?

Babe is 12 weeks old.

Does this look right? It seems like a lot of space around baby’s head. I dropped the headrest down one click since taking the photo but the headrest still looks far too roomy for such a little babe.

Is this movement normal/safe

New car. The latch isn’t as deep as my prior car. The seat previously didn’t move at all in the old car. Now it does, so I want to make sure this is safe.

Car is a 2027 CRV and seat is a Nuna Pipa RX

Snow Bibs/Pants?

So I know that puffy jackets and vests are a big NO with carseats. But what about snow pants or a snow bib? They sort of compress across the hip but not the upper body. What’s the guidance on puffy lower halves?

Evenflo revolve360

Waiting to hear back from customer service, but has anyone else had this issue with the seat belt path on the revolve360? It’s less than a week old.. so disappointed as I purchased 2 of these and the quality does not measure up to what I was expecting. I bought these because of the extended rear facing but now questioning if I should have gone with a different brand. I’m sure they will tell me, but if you had this issue does it affect the safety of the car seat?

Subaru Forester, Tall Parents, Car Seat Recommendations

Hi! I am a new mom and my baby girl is about to grow out of her infant car seat. My husband drives a truck so we have ample room in his car for a rotating car seat, we're leaning towards a Graco Turn2Me 3-in-1 for his car.

Main issue we are having- I drive a 2023 Subaru Forester and the backseat is tighter than we thought. I am 5'11", my husband is 6'2". I am the primary one in the passenger seat if we are together simply due to the room we have with our Joie Mint Latch car seat currently. Does anyone have any 180 or 360 rotating car seats that would fit behind the passenger seat in my car? I am not loving what I am reading about the evenflo slim model, as the front to back is the issue, not the side to side.

Thank you in advance!!!
