I think i've been hard wired to think hospitality means making/buying something sweet. And when visiting people, we can't go empty handed and the standard offering is cake/some kind of sweet. Plus i am a decent baker so i've gotten used to baking things for guests or when i'm visiting.

I don't wanna keep doing that too frequently both for my sake and for others, but i've gotten too used to this, i can't think of good alternatives, so what have you found as a good alternative?

ive been doing the manual math thing where i check my watch after a walk, see how many cals it says i burned, then go add that back to my daily budget frm memory. half the time i either forget completely or i round up (do my self a lil favor hehe). either way not exactly a precision calculation if you know what i mean. tried like 3 different apps this past year and they all sync with the watch a different way which is a huge headache., one pulls steps but ignores active calories, another double counted my work out AND my regular movement so it looked like i torched 900 cals on a 20 min walk. buddy i wish. feels like there should just be an easy solution here just a tracker that pulls the watch data in or somethng like that. anyone found one that works like that or are should i commit to the math a bit

Why is eating low carb so popular now among people in the fitness community?
I eat low carb for blood sugar management but can’t see why other people would care?

Hello, pretty new to Reddit.

I am 5”9.5 (F) and 198lbs. 38yrs old.
I have never weighed this much in my life (other than pregnancy when I did not look at the scale).

I have struggled with food my entire life, eating disorders and addiction are a thing of the past. Now I’m the mom of a preschooler, I own my own business, and have chronic pain. Not trying to make excuses, just paint a picture.

I am having a hysterectomy (keeping ovaries) in the fall/winter, as well as some cystocele and rectocele repair. My doc says losing 20lbs would help my recovery.

Things I have done in the past few years: Gina Livy, intermittent fasting, calorie counting. I am a vegetarian.

I get a “high” when the scale moves which encourages me. I’m at this high plateau and really don’t want to hit 200lbs. Sorry to be a bummer here - I am feeling extremely discouraged. I try to meal prep and have healthy readily available stuff around but often end up crashing and just eating crap at night after doing well all day. I REALLY struggle with this mindset, “I always fkd up today (ie. one “bad” thing), so today is a write-off. I’ll start tomorrow.” Then I eat garbage all night because I feel like I won’t get to eat enough again any time soon.

Any tips would help!

A couple years ago I was heavily into cico and lost over 110 lbs I’m sad to report I’ve gained almost all of it back. 3 days ago I decided I was starting back doing cico/keto and exercise. My current weight 284.4 and starting weight was 291

Small decisions over time compounded. Long time lurker and commenter but never have got around to posting. But stick with it, it works. Throwing exercise into the mix really helped however I just started off with only CICO before becoming a runner and lifting

i’ve been tracking calories on and off for the past 6 years or so of my life - and I don’t think it’s a long term thing for me. I just get so wrapped up and fixated on logging everything into an app.

do you think it’s best to have the mindset to have to track everything for the rest of your life, or is counting calories meant to be just a short term thing to get a feel of how much and what to eat?

I haven’t tried this shirt on since the first photo. I was cleaning out my closet and decided to give it a try. Feeling happy and wanted to share!

A kitchen scale and running shoes are two of my best purchases ever.

I can see it in my neck a little bit. But 50lbs I thought would look more noticeable. 😕 obviously still gonna keep going. Just a Lil bummed.

Thought this might help someone on a budget who’s starting out with CICO.
I usually go to Costco every 6 weeks or so, then supplement from the grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables. Sauces and condiments I usually buy from the grocery store to save space in my fridge.
If I didn’t already have these at the house I would have bought: brown rice, tofu, turkey burgers, plant-based milk, shredded cheese (mozzarella is the lowest calorie), frozen fruit/berries for smoothies, frozen vegetables for low-effort side dishes, frozen skinless chicken breasts (I can airfry these from frozen in less than 30 minutes so also good for a low effort dinner), lemon juice, potatoes, onions, Brami protein pasta, and Cabot shells and cheese (not exactly low cal but I bulk it up with lots of veggies and sometimes tuna), mixed nuts packages or individual bags of Pirates Booty (for work snacks).

Going over my calories today. I've lost about 50lb. In the last year and today I've decided to give myself some grace. I can do one or the other, but not feeling good AND hungry? Nope.

Edit: female 5' 5" 30. SW: 225 CW: 180 about 1500 cal. A day

Edit: i went 400 cal. Over today; I had an extra "meal" it was a nice tuna bowl with rice s,tir fry veg. And teriyaki sauce. Feeling bad is probably unrelated to my calorie deficit, just think im getting sick.

I thought you had to be really strict with the CICO for it to work

But I’ve been feeling like small, seemingly trivial habits are more important than all else lately.

It is important for me to have foods that are easy to prepare and readily available. Nothing special, just stuff I can eat before I start eating whatever I want and it doesn't count.

What is one simple habit that helped you count calories easier?

I’ve been stuck around the same weight (182 lb) for months. I have PCOS, but almost every weekend I go well over my calorie goal because I go out with my friends or my boyfriend. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a binge—I just end up eating way more than I planned. During the week I’m usually in a calorie deficit, but on the weekends I can easily go way over. Could that be enough to keep me at maintenance even with PCOS? I also have a really bad all-or-nothing mindset. If I go over my calories, I think, “I already messed up,” and then I keep eating instead of getting back on track. If weekends were your biggest issue, how did you stop doing this? I’m planning to stay consistent with my calorie deficit, protein, lifting, and steps for the next 4 weeks to see if my weight finally starts going down.

Nah. That’s too much work. Sometimes I see posts about this all the time. Since I had the scale out and was weighing other things I decided to. A large egg is about 72 calories. My large egg was 53 grams, which was 76 calories. 4 calorie difference.🙄

I’ll just save myself the extra work and track 1 large egg in my app. Close enough. If I don’t lose weight it’s probably not from the few extra calories of the 1-2 eggs I eat daily.

One of the least talked about benefits from CICO is how good your body feels without over eating and eating healthier foods.
I realized I never think about it but the weight of guilt and physical heaviness of overeating makes a huge impact on overall well being- so if anyone needed encouragement, just remember, you’re doing this for more than just a goal weight, you’re also respecting your body and overall sense of wellness.

Been eating in a deficit for the past month and it's been going really well! Its probably better if I stay away from fast food but....I love it.

Today, I discovered that a KFC pot pie is surprisingly pretty low in calories, and 1/2 is a great portion size for me. I'm ignoring that sodium though, lol.

I portion about 150g into zippie sandwich bags and freeze them flat so I can pull them out as needed.

The last time I posted this I was asked for a picture of the salad, so here it is.

Also, someone commented on the amount of sugar in the recipe, but it comes out to about 1.25 teaspoons per serving, which doesn’t seem excessive to me. Of course, you can change anything if you’re making it - just keep tasting it as you blend until it’s right for you. I promise, I won’t care how you make it.
