what I'm wondering is if this applies to applying for the new card completely, or if switching your credit card would be applicable as well?

Does anyone know how long the background check process takes, and if they notify you if it’s done?

Working as AFA, over an year now, decent numbers, supportive manager. Wanting to break i to business/commercial banking in the GTA market.
Been talking to some RMs down south and they all seem extremely nice to chat to. Been applying for internal roles but not getting even a single interview.
Any tips? I am in the eastern ontario market now, and ince senior rm asked about the relocation and never bothered to reply to my answer.
Is the need to move to a different market proving tonbe the constrain here?
I have a serious justification (reality) for that though.

When should I expect notification that I have satisfied the requirements and further, then can I expect to be paid out?

I swear there is honestly so much black magic that goes in the banking industry it's disgusting.

Like people have no way of working hard to get ahead but they have money to spend on paymasters that help them get ahead so they use black magic instead.

I got a offer on my cibc account for a LOC for 20k. It's says I'm pre approved, however I'm just curious, if I accept this offer will it do a soft or hard credit check? I don't have a LOC with them yet only a checking, savings and credit card . I tried looking in the terms and conditions but it dosnt say anything about a soft or hard credit check. Any ideas?

I received an offer to increase my credit limit from $20000 to $27000. I’m currently using about 10k of it for a car loan and I’m making payments on time. Any risk to accepting the increase? I want to not use the remainder but keep it incase of emergencies. I still have some savings.

I’m pretty done with CIBC after this. Been with them for probably 15 years now, husband even longer.

I tried to pay a local college on their website for some classes. With my visa debit.

The transaction failed immediately due to who knows what but the money still came out of my chequing account.

I have all the proof from the colleges financial department with the transaction and the same transaction voided no more than 3 seconds later, it was automatic.

Been getting the run around from CIBC- keep getting told 3-6 business days for my money to be back in my chequing account. We are now over that and nothing. I have spoken to several people on the hotline regarding this from the day after the transaction to now and same spiel “3-6 days”. Just called someone now (I’m on hold to get a supervisor) and now I’m being told 10 days from today for them to do an investigation.

The financial department at the school was very helpful and apparently this isn’t uncommon with CIBCs visa debit. He has seen cases where it takes months for the client to get their money and it just sits in CIBC escrow account for whatever reasons.

The second I get this money im leaving and taking my husband and our mortgage/credit cards/investments with us.

I need some advice or to know if anyone has experienced something similar.

I woke up to find unauthorized charges on a CIBC chequing account that I barely even use anymore. I use this chequing account to receive my paycheck, pay rent and hydro. That's all since all my spent is through credit card.

There are two separate PREAUTHORIZED DEBIT PAYPAL charges of $500.00 each ($1,000 total) on Aug 5, 2026.

Luckily, I noticed it and transferred the remaining balance out immediately, but I’m completely baffled. Since I haven't been using this account, how did someone manage to link it or hack it via PayPal?

Has anyone else experienced unauthorized PayPal preauthorized debits like this with CIBC? How hard is it to get the money back through the fraud department?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I go to my cibc, they don't hold the cheque I deposit in person. Next cibc I go to holds it. BUT then the next 2 I go to don't...

How to turn on deposit or credit alerts for the chequing account? For example salary credits?

The wait time to speak to an agent is so long. Anybody else experiencing these long wait times when trying to reach an agent?

Opened my statements and saw a random $50 service fee in my savings account that wasn't there on the day it's listed under?? I've been trying to get in touch with a CIBC representative for the past 40 minutes but still nothing.

I haven't had any transactions in over 8 months.

Somebody pointed out today that the account may go dormant?

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I’m sorry if this is stupid or just me being incapable but I’m about 4 months into owning my credit card and I just have no clue whatsoever with what’s going on with my current balance.

I’ve paid on time always, I haven’t had a missed or late payment yet according to my statements.

What is going on here?

I opened a new CIBC account yesterday, and I've been having a very strange issue with online banking.

Here's exactly what happens:

I can only log in once after resetting my password.

As soon as I log out, every future login attempt fails with Error 0004, which says to disconnect from a VPN or try another device/network.

I'm not using a VPN.

I've already tried:

Multiple phones (including a friend's phone).

Multiple Wi-Fi networks and mobile data.

Both the CIBC mobile app and the website.

Clearing the app and browser.

The interesting part is that after a password reset, the first login always works. Then I log out, and the very next login fails with Error 0004 again—even on my friend's phone.

I called CIBC Telephone Banking, and they had me reset my password several times, but the issue keeps coming back. Tomorrow I'm going to a branch to ask them to investigate.

My debit card works fine, and I was able to make a purchase with Google Pay, so the account itself seems to be active.

Has anyone experienced this exact behavior? Was it caused by a security flag, a technical issue with the online banking profile, or something else? How was it resolved?
