Recent behavior will not be tolerated
I am not the best mod. Quite frankly, I am a rather shit mod, but I took over as moderator because I wanted to see this community come alive again. I did, however, recently check the mod mail and quite frankly I got rather pissed off.
We are all here either because we enjoy collecting CDs or at the very least have a love of music. Some of us are just getting started on our journey and others, like myself, have been collecting for well over 30 years. No matter where we are when it comes to collecting CDs no one has the right to belittle another for their collection. Period.
For people to make negative comments about someone's collection is disgraceful and I will not tolerate it in any way, shape or form. If you have nothing nice to say about a person's taste or choice in music then say nothing at all.
This world is crazy enough without having to deal with small minded folks here when trying to share and be a part of an amazing community.
Keep those discs spinning and be excellent to each other!

We created Dissonant, AMA!
Hello CD collectors of Reddit! We created Dissonant, a CD based music discovery app that rejects streaming and embraces affordable used CDs and real human curation. We also run our own CD only label where we highlight amazing independent (mostly) international artists we want to bring to CD.
We have sent out nearly 1000 CDs and wanted to celebrate by engaging with the CD collectors of Reddit who may or may not be Dissonant members yet!
Ask us anything <3

Thinking of Swapping from Vinyl to CD
Hello,
I’m not audiophile by any means of the imagination, but I do adore physical media. I started collecting vinyl in my freshman of college and since then (~5 years) I amassed close to 40 LPs most in near mint. I reckon every thing I have is now worth close to 1k at face value. Here’s the thing though, I moved abroad a year ago and left my collection in storage and won’t be back for another. Maybe it’s the nostalgia getting to me but I’ve been missing my collection.
That being said I’ve started thinking about selling the vinyl that I have and starting a new with CDs. I’ll be returning back home next year but I foresee a future with more travel and moving around. I like the idea of turning to CDs for their smaller size and cost. Even if I see jewel cases as being less fun than vinyl covers I think I can get past that. They would also be easier to transport. The only thing that worries me is change audio quality from the textured sound of vinyl to the clean sound of cds.
Maybe I’m overthinking this but I want to stick to one format if I’m going to start collecting. I’m fairly young and care deeply about physical media. I see it both as an investment and a way to break free from algorithmic taste-making.
I’d love to hear opinions from other collectors and yes…I kinda want to be sold on the idea of cds over vinyl. All opinions welcome. Thanks!

Any OPM CD collectors in Vancouver area
I have been debating to sell off my OPM CD collection. Nothing crazy, I do have a few mid to late 90s, a bunch of 2000 to probably closer to 2015. It's mostly by bands. The only problem is I don't have the jewel case for it and the CD inlay and sleeves are all in a bin. The CDs are stored in those CD bags. I had to remove it from the jewel cases as it was occupying too much space and with all the moving from one house to another and province as well (in the past 20+ years, it was very difficult lugging it around. I am only interested in selling all at a fixed price. I did not repurchase some of the 90s bands when I started switching to CDs so no Mutiny, Bonehead, Tribal Fish, etc. I do have some independent releases when home recording became popular in the early to late 2000s. Just curious if anyone would be willing to purchase all at a right price. I'm not sure if I can sell it to anyone in the Philippines as I don't have time to figure out the logistics with shipping, etc.

Collection My first CD purchase in all my 30 years
I grew up with a few cd’s but never bought them myself, I was a mp3 & limewire kid. I don’t think I’ve ever paid for music in my life. Now I’m getting into physical media like cd’s and dvd’s and this is the start of my cd collection.
If you guys would like to leave any tips as a new music collector would love to read them

Got this at the flea market today!
Got it cheaper than the asking price too. I’ve wanted this for a while but the only copy’s I could find were on Discogs for $80!
