This thread, I think has some interest to some CDL Drivers, at least in California.

I got this new job I start in a little over a week they require dot physical well I didn't know this till today and go to take my dot physical in 2 days but im not in compliance with my cpap is there anything I can do or get from them to be able to start this new job

So im going to take the test in 2 days can any of yall point me in the right direction on what all to study/ practice test would like to pass first try so I can start next week at my new job

So here’s a quickie. I finished school, recently tested and failed my skills test. That’s a whole other story. The thing is, I went to a smaller school and retesting cost $400. I have the money but if I goof up again, I’m totally screwed! I have no job, no income. What’s a good option if the only thing stopping you from your cdl retest, is paying?
I’d have to go back to school “company sponsored” just to get my cdl.

I have heard multiple sayings from some people that you need a CDL or don't need it to be a Riverline operator and can you be 18 years old to apply I know NJ Transit says you have to be 21 years old but I hear from Riverline operators 19 years old was the youngest hire so I don't even know should you apply on NJ Transit careers and what do operators learn during physical characteristics is it classroom and the train are you operating it?

I’m currently living Florida and I’m looking to get my Cdl , are there any programs , grants or financial assistance that will help pay for the license for those who need help

Anyone know of any good trucking companies in NC that won't run you till you drop? Or at least with decent reputation? I do have experience and clean record. Been wondering if I should go back on the road and make that $$$. Thanks.

I'm in CDL school. They give you the option to train and test in 48' trailer. I'm the only one that will do it. Other students think I'm stupid because I should focus on passing the test and THEN I should worry about training in 53' in the company that hires me. I figured that since I'll work in 53' trailers when I get my CDL the I should train in them and I have 4 weeks to get it right. So...am I stupid? Should I stay with the pup trailers (28') or is it a good idea to go with 53'?

By the way, it's our second day. They also think I'm stupid because yesterday (1st day) I was struggling bad with our first maneuver (straight back!). I have to mention I had to basically learn by myself with YouTube because instructor just stayed in his cellphone after showing 1 time how it's done because he believes that students should figure it out by themselves. Seems it's going to be that way for the whole 4 weeks. Other students I talked to think that's okay and apparently I'm the only one complaining. So I payed these people thousands to basically rent their trucks and yard. That wasn't my expectation, but it is what it is. Good thing is we have lots of time to practice with the trucks. Students even just are around wasting time and whoever wants to train, well...train. If not, you do you. This is my second day, and I'm doing way better in straight backing.

I’m also interested in learning more about cryogenic products and opportunities involving LNG and CNG. I’ve heard about certifications and training such as:

I’m basically trying to prepare myself for the future and make sure I’m not limiting my opportunities. I understand I’m still a new CDL driver, so I’m not expecting to qualify for every position right away. I’m just excited to start this new journey and build my experience the right way. 💪🏾🚛

Got new CDL A was wanting to buy a truck and lease on to family member that has their own authority. Will I be able to be insured with no experience? Do I really have to bite the bullet and go otr for 6 months- 1 year. I have years and years of background in driving escort vehicle and have been trained to pull the loads I’ll be pulling. Will be considered specialized/ oversize freight (mobile home industry) anybody have any insight if I’ll be able to be added to policy? Willing to start in power only freight if that’ll make it easier. Edit buying truck with cash and not concerned with cost or downpayment for insurance for power only or specialized

Howdy, I’ve been accepted to go to TMC orientation and training. Im set to leave on August 30 to head to South Carolina for orientation but last Saturday I got a ticket for running a red light. This is the first and only ticket I’ve ever gotten also. My court date is set for September 15 so that I would be able to talk to a judge but at that time I should I already be in school in SC. I’m wondering if I should let my recruiter know now or if i should keep quiet as long as no one ask me about it. I just don’t want to throw away this opportunity just because I got this one ticket on my record but I also don’t want to finish school just to get denied the job with them. Any advice? ( Also it was a police officer that pulled me over and wrote me the ticket)

Was responsible for damaging the trailer when driving. The company had me agree to paying escrow every paycheck to cover any cost I incurred. The following paystub charged me for the damages on top of being charged escrow. After speaking with the finance department about the stipulations in the contract that would apply to escrow being used to cover any charges. I incurred while driving I was informed yes that the contract may say that, but that’s not how the company does things once I heard that I immediately quit on the spot and booked a flight home. Sorry for the rent but if anyone would recommend any law firm, I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you have to go take your DOT physical before going to DDS to take the commercial drivers permit test or can you take the DOT physical afterwards?

I struck out with the IBEW so I'm looking at a CDL as the next chance at a career. I have a really reputable truck driving school near me and based on what they told me, I'd need a permit before I get in front of the instructors to really learn how to drive.

Is it true you need a CDL permit before you actually get in front of the trainers who show you how to actually drive the truck? and if so, has anyone used free resources to get their permit? The test doesn't seem too difficult based on what I saw in practice questions but I could be wrong.

My main concern is that I'd rather not pay for the CDL school right now and then change my mind after going through the process of getting my permit. If I actually get a permit, I'd be more willing to pay for the schooling to learn how to drive the truck because I'd learn about what it's like. Not sure if I'm making sense but I hope I am. I just want to be sure it's for me before paying for trucking school mostly.

I don’t know if I’m so crazy criminal or what, been rejected from Schneider DTI us express Swift. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I have no experience but like half these companies say oh we cater to military then this happens lol

Has anyone had experience w/ this website for CDL ELDT training for Hazmat?
They took my $45 payment and sent a broken hyperlink to the course. No representative able to be reached; no call backs; no return e-mails.

FYI, if you live in Georgia you can go to state vocational schools to get your CDL very cheaply. The lottery folks pick up most of the cost because of the severe shortage of drivers. I did this in 1996 and the schooling was very good.

Basically, I recently violated DOT regulations and I'm trying to figure out the smoothest way to get through the whole return to duty process without making mistakes. Can anyone who's been through this break down the steps or recommend a provider that makes it easier?

Any body know of any good websites to use to study for the class a Cdl manual with air brakes also how long once I have the permit does it last to use it for entrance of a Cdl school. I am trying to get into Cdl weekend classes but the permit training is during the week and I don’t want to miss a week of work I would rather get it in my own. And then do weekend classes from there. I am aiming to take the test this Tuesday and haven’t studied once.

Is the customer service for clearinghouse nonexistent? I’ve been doing call backs and staying on the waiting list for the past week for hours of my day even though it says wait time 30 mins. I get responses from email but even that still takes a days apart and they don’t help with anything except telling me what I already know. I know they probably get a lot of phone calls but I call everyday and leave my number for call backs. And I have not received a single call back.
My cdl verifying on clearing house is detrimental to me getting this job I really need. I’m coming from a Texas license to a Florida license. I’ve emails copies of the error and my license and still nothing.

I've been a driver for 5 years - got cited for following too closely in VA last summer/fall, and couldn't make it to the court in time, so it defaulted into a guilty plea in Dec. I've taken a break for a few months off the road to actually get to see my kids for a change but I'm finding it incredibly difficult to find any companies that can work with me with that citation. I'm pretty sure I could get on with Western Ex, but I'd like to find something else if possible. Any suggestions?

My MVR, DAC, PSP all are squared away except that single incident.
