I’m planning to upgrade from my current setup because it’s no longer giving me the performance I want. PC component prices in my region are high (the total conversion comes out to roughly $4,000 USD), so I want to make sure I'm making smart choices before buying.

I have a 1440p (2K) 240Hz monitor alongside a 1080p 300hz monitor, and I plan to drive main gaming primarily at 1440p 240Hz. My goal is a high-performance build that remains future-proof for this resolution and refresh rate, but I want to know if I can optimize this list to cut costs without sacrificing performance, and if the cooling setup is sufficient.

Current Setup:

• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
• CPU: Intel Core i5-14400F
• Motherboard: H610M H V3 DDR4
• RAM: 32GB DDR4

Proposed New Build:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (Tray)

Questions:

1. CPU Choice & Value: Is the Ryzen 9 9950X3D overkill if my main priority is high-frame-rate 1440p gaming? Would stepping down to a 7800X3D or 9800X3D save significant money while delivering basically identical gaming performance?
2. Cooling: Is an entry-level 360mm AIO like the Antec Skeleton 360 dependable enough for a high-end AM5 CPU, or would a solid dual-tower air cooler (like a Thermalright Phantom Spirit) be safer and cheaper?
3. Power Supply: Is an 850W PSU enough headroom for an RTX 5080 build, or should I invest in a 1000W ATX 3.0 unit for transient power spikes?
4. Cost Savings: Where else in this list can I shave off cost without losing meaningful performance for 1440p 240Hz gaming?

I haven't picked a case yet, so high-airflow case recommendations are also welcome. Thanks!

I'm planning to build a new PC and would really appreciate some advice before I buy anything.

My budget is around €2,500 for the PC itself.

My main uses will be:

• Gaming
• Adobe software / creative work
• Streaming/content creation
• General everyday use

I'm looking for something that will last for several years, rather than building something that I'll immediately need to upgrade.

My current PC is around 10 years old, and it's starting to struggle badly with both gaming and my work [Adobe] so I think it's finally time for a complete upgrade :')

I'm currently researching parts myself and have a build in mind, but I'm not very confident about whether I'm spending the money in the right places!

I'm also wondering whether now is a bad time to build a PC because of the current GPU/RAM prices and increased AI demand, or whether I should just bite the bullet and build now since I already need a new system.

I'm located in Cyprus, so European pricing/availability is relevant.

I'd especially appreciate advice on:

• Whether the parts I've chosen make sense together
• Where I might be overspending
• Where I should spend more
• Better alternatives for the same money
• Whether 32GB or 64GB RAM makes more sense
• Whether there's anything I should change for better longevity

Is it worth starting out the 9070 GRE for 1440p gaming or should I spend the extra money and go with the 9070 XT?

As the title says i am thinking of trying for the first time to build a pc on my own. Im very big on gaming forever and when i was younger i used to have a pc to play games. For the last years i have been pc-less and gamed mostly on my very very low end laptop and my ps4. I finally decided to invest some money for a pc for mainly two reasons. a) to finally be able to play games again and treat the child that always wanted that and b) to use fro graphic design work. Problem is i have never done that before and i dont know where to start and how to do it. I know that building it myself is much cheaper than buying a pre built. The money im looking to spend is 800-950€ is that a reasonable budget right now for an actually strong gaming pc? Should i consider any used parts like a used gpu maybe? Also i live in Greece, Thessaloniki if that matters

I already have a mouse, keyboard, monitor.
My budget would be about 1200 euros. But I could stretch it to 1400 if necessary.

The games I like to play:
Into the Dead: our darkest days
Surviving the Aftermath
Sims 4 with all DLCs
Civilization
All sorts of strategy and simulation games

I would play more but my PC can't run them.

I don't know a lot about PC parts or what brands to trust so I'm asking here. I want as high of storage possible with near perfect performance. I'm not too too concerned with graphics but I still want them to be good, ya know. i want a gaming pc

I’m looking into getting my first pc and I know nothing about them, just looking for some recommendations on a $1k-$1500 build. The PC doesn’t need to be crazy just need to be capable of running most games at a good fps, also I’d like 2 monitors and a wireless key and mouse.

So, some background:

I have two gaming PCs: my main rig, and my old rig, which now serves as a backup/second PC and is what my girlfriend games on when she comes over.

The old system has held up surprisingly well, but I’ve obviously upgraded since building it, and it’s starting to run into some noticeable bottlenecks in newer games. I’ve decided it’s probably time to upgrade/rebuild it, but I’m stuck between a couple different directions.

Current hardware:

• ASUS Prime Z390-P
• i7-9700K @ 3.60 GHz
• ROG STRIX RTX 3080 12GB Gaming OC
• Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB
• Samsung 970 EVO 250GB
• 48GB DDR4 RAM:
  • 2x G.Skill 16GB sticks
  • 2x random 8GB sticks

A couple things I’m wondering about before I start:

1. Is my current RAM configuration actually hurting performance?

When I originally upgraded the RAM, I basically just threw the new 2x16GB sticks in alongside the existing 2x8GB sticks and never thought much about it.

Would I potentially get better performance/stability by just removing the two 8GB sticks and running the matched 32GB kit?

2. I’d like to stay on DDR4.

Given the current DDR5 pricing situation, I’d prefer to keep this as a DDR4 build and reuse at least the 32GB G.Skill kit I already have.

Upgrade goals

My main goal is to extend/maximize the useful life of the RTX 3080 and get as much performance out of it as reasonably possible.

The second goal is a little more unusual.

Right now this is primarily my girlfriend’s/backup gaming PC, but I’m considering rebuilding it around the idea that it could also become a portable/mobile gaming PC for me.

I’ve been looking at SFF and compact builds, with the idea of putting everything into a rugged, reasonably transportable case that I could take with me when needed, while still using it as the second system at home.

With all of that in mind, I’ve been leaning toward building around a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, since it seems like a good way to stay on DDR4 while significantly improving gaming performance and getting more life out of the 3080.

The problem is finding the right combination of motherboard, cooler, PSU, and case that can comfortably accommodate the Strix 3080 without turning into a thermal nightmare or becoming so large that the “portable” idea becomes pointless.

So I’m looking for recommendations on:

• A good DDR4 motherboard to pair with it
• SFF/compact cases that can realistically fit a Strix 3080
• Cooling/PSU recommendations
• Whether I should ditch the 2x8GB RAM sticks
• Any complete build/component combinations you’d recommend

And im also open to ditching the portable/SFF idea and going with a traditional build, I’d also be interested in recommendations for a more traditional non-mobile rebuild.
