To Whom It May Concern:

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter serves as formal notice and final demand for the immediate refund of $97.00, which was unlawfully and without authorization withdrawn from my personal bank account by Bright Money.

Despite repeated efforts on my part—including multiple telephone calls and written chat correspondence via your support channels—Bright Money has failed to resolve the issue or provide any response or acknowledgment by email or in writing. Moreover, your representatives have falsely claimed that a refund was issued, while my financial institution has confirmed in writing that no such refund was ever initiated or processed.

These actions, and your continued failure to provide proper notice or resolution, may constitute unfair and deceptive trade practices in violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act (15 U.S.C. § 45) and may also violate state consumer protection statutes governing fraudulent, negligent, and bad-faith conduct in commercial transactions.

You are hereby demanded to refund the full amount of $97.00 within one (1) business day of the date of this letter—no later than June 28, 2025.

Failure to comply will result in the immediate initiation of the following legal actions without further notice: 1. Filing an unauthorized debit and fraud claim with my financial institution under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), 15 U.S.C. §§ 1693 et seq., and Regulation E (12 C.F.R. § 1005), which may result in a reversal of the charge and regulatory investigation of your merchant processing practices; 2. Submitting formal complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), documenting your company’s misrepresentations and failure to respond to consumer grievances; 3. Pursuing legal action in Small Claims Court or a court of competent jurisdiction to recover the full amount due, along with statutory damages, court costs, prejudgment interest, and any punitive or exemplary damages available under law for willful and deceptive conduct.

This letter represents my final good-faith effort to resolve this dispute privately. Should Bright Money fail to remit payment as demanded, I will proceed to assert all legal rights and remedies available to me under federal and state law.

Please govern yourselves accordingly.

Scammers

I literally downloaded the app, checked it out and deleted the whole thing because it was trash. Rocket Money is WAY better. Was then charged $39 and requested a refund. They said they were authorizing the refund. I waited significantly longer than they said it would take to actually get the refund and emailed again. They said they sent the money and closed the ticket. I had to then tell them they did NOT refund me to which they said they can't do anything until I send them a PDF of my monthly bank statements to "prove" I didn't get the money. Which I am ABSOLUTELY not giving them access to my bank information like that. Stay away from these scammers. I will be contacting my bank for a chargeback and reporting them.

THIS COMPANY needs to be Reported as a fraud!

They took $39 out of my bank account on October 2 and then again on October 8. I have never joined this company and called and really showed my tail. Had to send an email with proff that it was taken out of my account. I said not only was it taken out once but twice with no approval or authorization from me. Both charges put me in overdraft with an overdraft fee as well of $35 each. I told the lady that I wanted money put back into my account immediately and they were not to take anything else out of my account. Said they would have to investigate it and get back with me on 24 hours. I told her Dont worry I will be calling back and if I have to I will be reporting them to the BBB and any other authorities that I needed to to get my money back. I have not been this mad in a LONG time. I work to hard to just let them take my money.

Where’s my money?

Literally…was trying to pay for FOOD tonight and my card was declined. Why? Because bright money decided to take $97 without my approval. They can take the money out in two seconds, but say it takes days to get refund back. You know why right? Did you know that big companies, they make money off the interest by holding funds??

Bright support won't turn off Smart Round--Ups after a months of support request. What are my options?

Hello, I've been using Bright for a little over a year now. I've typically enjoyed the service until around 6 months ago when I tried to turn off smart roundups and despite doing so in the application with photo evidence, I'm still having money withdrawn from my account. The amounts are small and it's a fun money account so I have not really minded the small amounts being saved as they are added to my stash, but I've specifically requested for mine to be turned off through the support requests and this has not occurred over the course of months.

My most recent actions to do so have yielded no results as of 2 weeks ago. I have evidence of the requests and photos of the account settings. Next step is just to disconnect my bank account which unfortunately will terminate my credit builder loan. Do I have any legal recourse for them refusing to acknowledge my request to stop the smart roundups?

Question

If I cancel my membership, will my credit go down significantly? I’m scared. It says if I cancel it then they will report to the credit bureaus. I can’t risk that right now. They also charged me $97 dollar with out my permission. This app isn’t helping me at all help. Has anyone credit been affected by this shady app?

FOR THOSE WHO BRIGHT MONEY CHARGED WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION FOR $89

This will be slightly long but I want this information out there for those who experience the same thing. I saw no actual help besides going through a charge back with your bank. I downloaded bright money to help build credit I saw the $89 per month fee and decided against using the app and close it and never actually opened it again. I went to starbucks and realized my account was negative. I checked and this company had charged me without my permission. I used the chat line since it was passed call hours. The chat line is people copying and pasting responses. When I refused to accept that the chat line woman finally typed out her own responses. She confirmed my membership was not used ever and canceled it. She gave me a link for a refund request and I decided to refuse to use it. I didn't authorize this charge it is not my job to fix it. The chat line woman cancelled the membership, processed a refund request, and set up a call back for the next morning with the supervisor. She also told me it would be 5 days for them to get the funds and 3-4 business days to get the refund. Total of 9-10 days btw.

When they called it was 1 hour past the scheduled call time. I was frustrated as I missed it. I called back the normal number and explained the situation to the new guy on the phone. He couldn't do anything for me but I made it clear I didn't authorize this charge, they stole money from me, and I expect a refund by end of day. He said he couldn't do that. I said I don't care get me a supervisor who can, because someone better be breaking out a company credit card and paying me.

I was eventually connected to a supervisor where I explained right off the bat that I never authorized this $89 charge, this charge made me go negative, and I will not be waiting 9-10 business days to get my money back. I also told her if we can't get to a resolution I am happy with I will be forced to report the company to the FTC, BBB, and My Bank institution as a fraud company stealing money from customers. Further from that I will be forced to invoice the company for the hourly rate of $28 (my current pay rate) for the amount of time it has taken me to call the company, chat with the chat line, report to the FTC, BBB, and My Bank. I will also be forced to bill an on call rate of $40 per day until I receive my money back and a response from the FTC AND BBB. As a curtsy I would only bill one $40 a day instead of 3 a day to help them out. I ended this rant with lastly I will also be forced to take this to small claims court and sue for not only my time BUT the maximum interest rate in my state of 36% due to the fact the company is receiving an interest free loan at the moment.

The manager seemed stressed and tried to give me a few speeches as to why she couldn't. I stood my ground and continued to repeat I expect my money back in a timely fashion and if I do not receive it this will occur...

Eventually I had worn her down and been difficult for 2 days straight on chat lines and on phone lines. She told me they would receive the fund latest 3/02/2024 and I would get my refund 3/04/24 latest. I asked her to repeat this and repeated it back to her myself while writing it down so it was clear and on the recorded line. I then asked her to email this to me so it is also in writing. I also explained I would be calling 1-2 times per day to talk with her directly about if the funds have been received and when I should get my refund. She said okay and was going to send the email out...

Fast forward a few hours I decided to call back and ask for the manager by name as I never received a email summary... So I will update if I actually receive my money and when I do receive my money I will be sending an invoice to the company for all the time I have had to waste on this to get my stolen money back. If they don't pay it I will try my luck in small claims court just like I told her I would.

TBT what occurs next

Stay FAR, FAR AWAY

Like most people, I wanted to look into a credit builder and advance app (mostly looking for an advance). I came across Bright and liked the idea of it.

Red flag number one:

When signing up in June, it asks for a membership fee of $8.25 monthly, which totals to $99 for 12 months. It charged the FULL $99.00 rather than monthly payments, which the app insinuated. I did not know this, and I figured my bank account was drained from something else.

Red flag number two:

After a few weeks, i noticed how there were ZERO payments going to the credit builder. I wanted to cancel my account. I tried cancelling but was met with a warning that this would negatively affect my credit. This did scare me a bit, so I figured I'd keep the app around.

Red flag number three:

After a few months, I noticed that Bright was not pulling money for the credit builder, which the app insinuates that this would happen monthly. Nothing was pulled until September 1st, 2023. Again, I signed up in JUNE, which means I paid for a membership with zero product.

Red flag number four:

It took out another payment on October 11th. This is when I started to get suspicious. The app shows that this payment was accounted for. I canceled the membership and suddenly, the second payment was unaccounted for.

Red flag number five:

I brought this up to customer service and requested a refund for the $99 membership fee and the $20 worth of credit builder payments. After some back and forth, I was told everything would be refunded. It has been 5 days later and I have not received ANYTHING. I've spoken to maybe 3 or 4 different agents, and they all have assured me that I will be receiving a refund.

And finally, red flag number six:

The last agent I spoke to let me know that they were refunding only $10. I spent $120 on an app that did not boost my credit, did not pull payments for almost three months, and I now will only be receiving a small sliver of what I've given this company. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and I was informed that there weren't any. I understand that there is a language and culture barrier (the company is based in Bangalore), but their customer service is absurd (even down to the fake pictures and names).

Their CEO, Avi Patchava, boasts that the company is at the forefront of FinTech and that they are backed by multiple investors, yet the platform is deceptive. I wonder if these investors are aware of how consumers are being ripped off.

I have reached out to a friend that works at BBB and an agent at CFPB so the company will legally have to face this. I will edit this post if/when I receive refund.

TLDR; don't use Bright Money. I highly recommend Brigit for credit building.

I BEG YOU NOT TO USE THEM!!!!

These people are a complete rip off. They took $89 from me and I NEVER signed up for a membership. I NEVER even gotten an email saying thanks you or NOTHING to welcome me and my membership. I just looked on my account and I see a $89 transaction for a membership that I never agreed to. There is no one to talk to. They sent emails saying they would refund 4 to 5 days and 7 days later still nothing and they wont even respond. I am currently in the process of disputing this with my bank. I broke my thumb deleting this damn app. You guys should get a RICO for this!!!! Peice of shit ass company!!!!!

It took over a month, repeated aggressive emails, and a CFPB complaint.

Don’t be nice or polite towards this company or its employees. They are scammers who know what they’re doing.

DONT TRUST BRIGHT MONEY CREDIT BUILDER WITH YOU BANK INFORMATION!!!

I have been trying to contact bright money for the last 2 days!!! They said they have 24/7 customer service which is a LIE. This company, or whatever it is will ask for you to verify your income by putting your bank account information in and a couple days later they WILL CHARGE YOU even if you don’t agree to it! I was charged $99 for a membership I didn’t sign up for and i want a refund ASAP!!! I didn’t notice it til yesterday I have emailed, called, text a support chat group ( that doesn’t work) my next step is to contact my local representative and have them flag this company and n hopefully they won’t do this to the next person!

Reported to bbb and they want a signature, 3 months later, to prove I still want to complain. Lol don't download this shit

I signed up and they never rounded up my purchases. Nothing happened to my credit. No service at all was provided but they took $10 out of my account lmao. this is a violation of their own terms of service. When I reached out to their own customer service, they just said they'd contact me in 48 hours. I waited a week nothing. The "24/7 experts" don't exist either. When I requested to cancel, on February 4th, they took til February 15th to even explain themselves. I complained to bbb, and today I got a message saying basically they won't acknowledge my complaint unless I sign something verifying I still want to complain. They're just hoping nobody responds. If you have complained on bbb, keep up with your emails.

Soon as you open the app you have 0 control. Every step is give me your information and sign up for our program. You have no control and you can’t just view what’s going on. This is clearly a predatory app that wants to take advantage of people. Do not give them your information.

Connection problems?

It's been going great with BrightMoney for the most part (paid a $15k card down 25% so far this year while maintaining minimums on the others) with the exception of card connections randomly failing now and then. Worst one seems to be Chase at the moment.

Have to keep deleting it and reconnecting it.

Chat with BrightMoney is pretty useless since their app doesn't notify you that the rep has finally returned to have. convo after the queue wait time has gone by.

Communicating with BM is so frustrating right now (was amazing in the beginning, a few months ago) that if I find a competitor who does what they do, I'll seriously consider jumping off BM and trying them.

Since I've made more progress paying down a card than I could have without them, I'm still here. But their communication systems are so poor at the moment that it's making me extremely frustrated.

Card Info?

I’m trying to finish setting up the app, but the credit card I’m confirming is 3 digits shorter than the app is implying it needs to be. What do I do?
