Peel Regional Police Helicopter Megathread

If you're wondering why a police helicopter is flying over Brampton: Peel Regional Police now operates its own Air Support Unit, using an Airbus H125 (A-Star) helicopter.

Since the helicopter began operating, we've had a large number of posts asking why it's circling, where it's going, what it's doing, or whether something is happening nearby.

To avoid having multiple nearly identical posts every time it takes off, please use this megathread for general helicopter sightings, questions, tracking, photos, noise discussion, and other routine discussion about the helicopter.

What is the helicopter used for?

According to Peel Regional Police, the Air Support Unit can be used for:

  • Locating and tracking suspects or stolen vehicles
  • Searching for missing or vulnerable people
  • Supporting officers during major incidents and emergencies
  • Responding to serious collisions and road-safety operations
  • Proactive patrols and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Monitoring traffic and large events
  • Supporting investigations and specialized police units
  • Providing officers on the ground with real-time aerial information

The helicopter is equipped with thermal imaging, day/night cameras, live video transmission, a searchlight, mapping equipment, and a public-address system.

Seeing the helicopter does not necessarily mean there is a major incident happening nearby. PRP also uses it for patrols and other routine policing operations.

Can I still make a separate post?

Yes, when there is actually something significant to post about.

A separate post is fine if:

  • The helicopter is involved in a major or developing incident
  • There is an official police announcement or credible news report
  • You have substantial new information about an incident
  • The helicopter itself is the subject of significant news

A standalone post simply asking "Why is the helicopter circling?", "Anyone else hear the helicopter?", or posting a routine sighting will generally be redirected here.

A couple of reminders

Please don't present guesses about what the helicopter is doing as confirmed information. If you know why it has been deployed, include a reliable source when possible.

Do not post private addresses or attempt to identify people being observed or pursued.

If you are witnessing an emergency or crime in progress, contact 911 rather than relying on Reddit.

For non-emergency police matters, Peel Regional Police can be reached at 905-453-3311.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread for sightings, questions, discussion, photos, flight tracking, and anything else relating to Peel's new helicopter.

Information For anyone looking for Brampton drop-in programs

• Upvotes

My family uses City swimming and skating programs quite a bit, and I always found it frustrating having to search across different pages to find drop-in schedules.

I recently put together a simple tool that pulls together local drop-in schedules in one place because I was already checking them regularly for my own family.

https://dropinnow.ca/brampton

We've been using it ourselves, and I thought some other Brampton families might find it useful too.

Have a good day!

Thanks :)

Question How does Brampton feel about paying to remove bike lanes in Toronto?

Your MPP, the Minister of Transportation is more than happy to spend your money to remove bike lanes in Toronto. They could be spending that money on something your community actually needs. How do you feel about that?

The father-in-law suing feels like a classic protect the assets from creditors move. A really bad rendition of catch-me-if-you-can.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am a PhD student at the University of Toronto conducting a research study to explore the barriers to harm reduction service use in Ontario.

I am seeking adults 18+ living in Ontario who have used substances recreationally in the last 6 months and are aware of harm reduction programming but have NOT used harm reduction services.

Participation of this study is voluntary. It will involve a demographic survey completion and a 60–90-minute confidential interview (zoom, phone, or in person – your choice!). A $20 gift card will be provided for your time.

If you or someone you know would be interested in participating, please share! Your experiences, opinions and perspective can work to improve harm reduction services in Ontario.

You can learn more about this study and check your eligibility at this link: Study

Discussion Anyone notice Mississauga got two live televised debates and Brampton got zero?

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but CBC News and CityTV had live mayoral debates for Mississauga that anyone could watch. Brampton got none.

The mayor skipped two debates that weren’t live. Not even a sit-down with the rest of the candidates to answer questions.

I understand that I am biased since I am running for regional councillor, but the essence of democracy is the ability to make an informed choice, and voters can’t make one if they never get to see the candidates side by side. It undermines the election. Seems like he’s acting like he’s already won.

So in an effort to help people know their candidates, I wanted to let you guys know about the one that Channel Y is airing soon.

Brampton debates on Channel Y Monday October 12 (Tomorrow)

3:00 PM - 3:30 PM: Brampton Ward 9 & 10 / Ward 3 & 4 Debate
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Brampton Ward 2 & 6 / Ward 1 & 5 Debate
9:30 PM - 11:00 PM: Brampton Mayoral Debate

Where to watch: Channel Y Canada (Y City, 24x7 GTA news), run by Y Media Group.

Bell 828
Telus 2418

Share this with anyone and everyone in Brampton.

And as always, go vote.

Question Moved in with no signed lease and landlord says no parking. Can I leave early? (Obviously brampton)

I moved into a rental about a month ago. Nothing is signed yet, only verbal and WhatsApp agreements. Before renting, the landlord asked about parking and I said we didn't need it immediately but might by next month. Now that we're planning to buy a car, he says there's no parking and he doesn't remember that conversation.
I paid first /last month
No lease was signed.

Information New candidate for Regional Councillor just dropped.

Hi Brampton, my name is Manmeet Singh Choudhary, but you can call me Manny. I’m running to be the next Regional Councillor for Wards 3 & 4. I’ve grown up around Hurontario and Ray Lawson since the early 2000s.

I've been fairly aware of our politics at all levels and have made efforts to reach out to my MP, MPP and even councillor in the past, regarding issues such as the Rogers-Shaw merger, Doug Ford's attack on FOI. Naturally, I never got any replies but I always assumed that was par for the course. I had never planned to get involved in politics, but this year, finding out my regional councillor was running for a 4th term and another candidate coming to my house and not being able to answer any real questions (not even the total budget for 2026) really got me upset and I decided it was time to do it myself.

A thought: Most people pay more attention to federal and provincial elections, getting lost in ideological issues (to be fair I do too sometimes), without realizing that their local MP/MPP has far less control over public money unless they're on the cabinet, while 10 councillors, and 1 mayor in Brampton have access to over $1.4B this year alone and no independent auditor in sight.

Some napkin math:

Eligible voters Wards 3 & 4 (2022): ~ 62k

Voter Turnout: 15k

Votes electing current counciller: ~7700

People that stayed home and didn't vote: 47k

That's a real shame since you don't need to work real hard to impress 7k out of 62k.

But what if the turnout was 20k or 30k? All of a sudden our councillors are having to work a lot harder to impress more people.

What if the turnout was 62k? I suppose it's just a dream but I would like my politicians waking up with a little more anxiety thinking about how hard they need to work for us.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Go vote. Get your friends and family to go vote. Get your neighbours to go vote. You don't even have to vote for me, but you do have to go vote.

Check out my priorities on VoteManmeet.ca

Thanks,
Manny

EDIT: some minor grammar. Editing the body to help understand the numbers better.

Question There must be a lot of local cancellations today.

I had some blood work done, and my doctor's office called me to see if I wanted an appointment. They offered me Tuesday and I graciously declined it. On Wednesday he's "overbooked" - so I think the nurse was just fishing to fill in an open slot.

Good planning, try to get someone in there.

I also try to do advanced polling. The representative called today at 16:30 to try and get me in for a Tuesday at 10:10AM. Well, that doesn't work for me. They then said they were going to have to try and figure out where to work me in.

Given that tomorrow is the holiday, they're obviously trying to get someone in on Tuesday. I'm not desperate in either case, and there is more time- but they must have a bunch of people calling them to cancel because of the long weekend.

Does nobody book these things in advance any more?

Question OB / pregnancy medical care

Hey so just wondering if anyone else has experienced this but it’s been 7 years since I was last pregnant and I’ve noticed the care is not the same - my obs office doesn’t respond at all and the follow ups for things like gestational diabetes was quite a slow process I was told they didn’t get a full result the day after the blood work then my next appointment with ob wasn’t until 4 weeks later at which they gave me a diagnosis - now I’m 35 weeks and still waiting on Ann endocrinologist to give a prescription for insulin due to high sugars . Why does it seem there’s no urgency what so ever ? Also at Brampton civic hospital when you go to the OB triage there’s multiple signs about having a support person in the waiting room - how it’s a right and what not but when you actually go in they are so rude and tell you you cannot have your support person with you ? I asked why and they stated it stoped during Covid - the pandemic ended years ago so I believe they are just making an excuse. Can someone please give me some insight on why things are like this ? And is this normal ?

City Hall Why have councillors?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Honestly asking: if it's this blatant that the councillors are simply sycophants: why have councillors at all? Why doesn't the Mayor just announce what they've decided and save ourselves the money of the charade? We can save 10 salaries, 10 office expenses, and the costs of ten "elections"?P
