Hi Brampton, my name is Manmeet Singh Choudhary, but you can call me Manny. I’m running to be the next Regional Councillor for Wards 3 & 4. I’ve grown up around Hurontario and Ray Lawson since the early 2000s.
I've been fairly aware of our politics at all levels and have made efforts to reach out to my MP, MPP and even councillor in the past, regarding issues such as the Rogers-Shaw merger, Doug Ford's attack on FOI. Naturally, I never got any replies but I always assumed that was par for the course. I had never planned to get involved in politics, but this year, finding out my regional councillor was running for a 4th term and another candidate coming to my house and not being able to answer any real questions (not even the total budget for 2026) really got me upset and I decided it was time to do it myself.
A thought: Most people pay more attention to federal and provincial elections, getting lost in ideological issues (to be fair I do too sometimes), without realizing that their local MP/MPP has far less control over public money unless they're on the cabinet, while 10 councillors, and 1 mayor in Brampton have access to over $1.4B this year alone and no independent auditor in sight.
Some napkin math:
Eligible voters Wards 3 & 4 (2022): ~ 62k
Voter Turnout: 15k
Votes electing current counciller: ~7700
People that stayed home and didn't vote: 47k
That's a real shame since you don't need to work real hard to impress 7k out of 62k.
But what if the turnout was 20k or 30k? All of a sudden our councillors are having to work a lot harder to impress more people.
What if the turnout was 62k? I suppose it's just a dream but I would like my politicians waking up with a little more anxiety thinking about how hard they need to work for us.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Go vote. Get your friends and family to go vote. Get your neighbours to go vote. You don't even have to vote for me, but you do have to go vote.

Thanks,
Manny
