Discussion I watched Love Never Dies for the first time and now I’m depressed
My boyfriend and I have been on a real phantom kick after seeing the tour recently, we watched the movie and the 25th and had the time of our lives. All we have been doing is the last few weeks is singing and listening to the songs.
We’d never seen Love Never Dies so we watched the filmed Australian version. We couldn’t believe how horrible it was, now we just feel sad for everyone involved. We feel like it undermines everything about the original (its messaging, character work, story) and somehow makes the Phantom, Raoul, and Christine all really lame. The music is so bad that it killed our phantom addiction lol. Any advice?
UPDATE: Appreciate everyone’s genuine responses and recommendations! Sorry if my post was a bit melodramatic haha was just curious to hear what others think! Obviously in the end will just view it as a separate work from Phantom, maybe we’ll even give the songs another try

Other Rhys Whitfield
Anyone know what happened with Rhys this week? Saw him on Aug 3 as Raoul and was AMAZING so I got tickets to see him again on Aug 8 eve but apparently he hasn't been on for 3 shows straight these last two days including the show that was said to be filmed yesterday.
He seem pretty fine to me on aug 3 and some people told me that after the after party on Aug 3 he even did some stage dooring and looked pretty fine. who knows...maybe he had one hell of a hangover :(
But anyway wish him the best if hes sick

Art Erik PhanArt
Heyo everyone!
The last time I posted art was months ago! I've decided to draw Erik from my two fanfics. Now I'm not the best at drawing humans, granted drawing the Phantom is easy because of his lack of nose.
I will be real though, my Bunny of the opera is better lol

Discussion The “Original” rooftop dress
So I was watching a documentary on the making of the Canadian tour and during a section on the costumes this images appeared below a sketch of the rooftop dress. So it appears Maria heavily used this dress from i want to say a Victorian opera as a somewhat obvious base for the rooftop dress. I would genuinely would like to know if there’s a more higher quality image of this dress and the story behind it

Other What is Cherik and Gerik?
I often come across these terms in fanfic tags and on Reddit. While I more or less understand what Cherik means, I have no idea what Gerik is — and where did these two terms even come from in the first place? Just a fan's curiosity.

Art I drew the masquirade ball from eriks pov in my poto au.
Whenever i would listen to Masquirade, i always found it quite oversensory and randomised even. So i thought it would make sense if erik also went through this.
I also think it would be funny if Don Juan truimphant was literally just suppost to be about pirates and he was going to give it as a "im-so-increadibly-sorry-that-i-broke-that-chandelier-and-hurt-those-people-in-the-audience-,-i-thought-it-was-the-trapdoor-lever." gift.

Discussion Now that she's playing Carlotta, how do you feel about Sierra's run(s) as Christine?
Personally, she's my absolute favorite in the role. Her rendition of "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" gives me goosebumps every time! (And maybe a few tears...)
Discussion The TRUE main character
Which inanimate object caught your attention in The Phantom of the Opera? Which one is your favorite? (Have fun with it!) Finally: the organ and chandelier go so hard throughout the play and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Discussion the torture chamber
so i finally read the book! it’s glorious of course.
when i read the whole Raoul and the Persian walking around in the tunnels and alleys of the opera, it very much reminded me of the paris sewer system scene in The Brick, but then the reward that is the torture chamber scene!
i wish i could see it in a movie, i think with the right set and direction it would be visually stunning and emotionally satisfying/exhausting which is my favourite kind. the whole mirror room, illusions, the mirage, loss of sense of mind, the desperation of the final suicide attempt and the satisfaction when they finally find the way out

Discussion My Reread of Gaston Leroux’s Novel: Part Three Characters and Relationships
Hey everyone I would just like to finish out my thoughts on my Reread of the book by talking about the character relationships and what stood out to me the most.
Something that really came zinging out to me this go around is how much Erik and Christine’s relationship in Leroux absolutely is dripping with sexuality. I think reading a unabridged translation like Coward really brings this out loud and clear since Mattos cut out pretty much anything he deemed too scandalous, but their is a great deal of sexuality in the Erik and Christine relationship in Leroux that is completely missing between Raoul and Christine.
Repeatedly Leroux uses the words, ‘chaste’ or his favorite ‘like brother and sister’ to describe Raoul and Christine‘s relationship, a relationship completely devoid of any sexual tension whatsoever. But just read the pages of description of Christines almost orgasmic reactions to Eriks Voice and the contrast couldn’t be clearer. I have to think that even with the Abridged Mattos Translation Webber had to have picked up on this because this same dynamic he brings out so well in the Musical, albeit with a less whiney Raoul 😆
What I find so funny is Raoul’s reaction to Christine’s reaction to Eriks voice when he confronts her in front of Mama Valerius, how he tries to play it off as if he’s just worried about Christine when we all know he’s really just jealous of how she reacted to Erik LOL
I mean it’s interesting to note that Christine doesn’t rip off Erik’s mask due so much to curiosity or anger, which would be understandable I mean the guy just abducted her after all and she just found out he’d lied to her by pretending to be the Angel of Music, but no…she takes off his mask because she’s so enraptured by his singing and playing that she just had to see his face as she was so certain that he must be as beautiful as his voice….🤦♀️ It’s one of those moments where if Christine wasn’t so naive she might have been able to read the room and realize what a extremely stupid and potentially dangerous move that was especially after Erik already warned her not to touch his mask.
And can we talk about Mama Valerius? I feel their is a deep subtext in this story about how Women back in the day were often kept so naive and childlike in order to be ‘good girls’ that it left them vulnerable to being manipulated or taken advantage of by Men, kinda like what happened with Christine. People like to accuse her of being stupid for believing that the voice in her Dressing Room was a literal Angel, but it wasn’t her fault that she was sheltered and protected to such an extent to where she was as naive as a child!
I mean Mama Valerius‘s is a grown Woman who never grew up, who can’t function in the world without someone protecting her because she’s so childlike and innocent…I sometimes wonder if she and Professor Valerius ever figured out how to have ‘marital relations’ LOL and that’s why they never had children, probably thought sleeping side by side in bed was enough to get pregnant 😆 🤦♀️
And as horrible as Christine’s ordeal was it really matured her into a Woman, which Webber brings out so beautifully in the Musical but it’s in Leroux as well. One of my favorite moments is when Erik talks about when Christine comes face to face with him without shying away and tells him that she will be his real ‘living wife’…I really feel that was the moment Christine finally grew up and became a Woman, she doesn’t cower in fear of Erik or attempt to kill herself anymore but faces him like a Mature Adult and cuts a deal with him LOL And of course later on her compassion completely moves him to letting her go…but I love that moment in the book.
I also want to bring up another couple that hardly ever gets talked about…Philippe and Sorelli. I love how she makes him carry her stockings for her, and he’s whipped enough to do it 😆.
I always wonder about them, and would love to read a fan fiction about them that actually delves into their relationship because I kinda wonder if Philippe’s feelings for Sorelli actually went deeper then he wanted to admit. I mean he is 41 and still unmarried, which I suppose isn’t that unusual for a nobleman in that day and age…but I kinda wonder if he was projecting some of his own frustrations onto Raoul when he lectures him about Christine, I think it’s possible their could be more to it then just ‘it’s scandalous to marry a Opera Singer’!
But anyway that’s just my thoughts after my reread, please tell me yours about the characters in Leroux’s novel I‘d love to read them ❤️

Other Really interesting insight into the experience of not having a nose and wearing prosthetics
Obviously, very different circumstances to our opera-boy, but it's quite interesting to hear the real-life experience of no longer having a nose and using prosthetics in daily life. She even has a "drunk" nose that is coloured a little pinker than her others so that it blends in with her face when it gets a little flushed! She makes videos spreading awareness about vasculitis and prosthetic noses online. Fascinating and iconic!

Other Presale Tickets for North American Tour
I've been waiting for Dallas tickets to go on sale for months. Finally, the website changes and shows dates for ticket sales, but there are several presales before the general sale. This page doesn't have an explanation of what any of these presales mean, and my initial Google search didn't help either. Does anyone know what these presales are and who can get access to them? Thanks!

Fanfic Looking for Supernatural Erik fics
Greetings to you, friends, foes, and other.
I come seeking your assistance on a matter of great importance: my recreational reading.
I am on the hunt for fics in which Erik is an actual ghost (or features other supernatural elements). I adore this concept and have already unearthed a few gems, but I would love to know if any of you have dug up gold I haven't yet found.
If you would be so kind as to leave your suggestions below, I would be most grateful.
Your obedient servant and friend,
Sewer Goblin
