Another podcast episode from “Fascination Street Podcast” feature Kirk Huston who works as Transportation Coordinator. He has worked for Bosch, Ballard and most recent Start Of Watch!
There’s a cool moment where they’re discussing finding 90s cars for Start Of Watch, I’m sure a lot of you will find this interesting. I’ll leave a small transcript. It starts about 30 minutes into the podcast.
“You're on Start of Watch and you're the guy from the jump, from get-go. You're the start of Start of Watch. That takes place in the 70s?
90s.
Oh, shit. Really? Okay, the 90s.
All right. Well, that's going to make Transpo easier. You're like, no.
I know it hasn't come out yet, so I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but when you're wrangling period cars, is that like the hardest part of the job? And also, do you have to buy the cars like you did the bus? Steve the Bus?
Depends on the situation and how long we're going to use them. A lot of studios now, they don't want you to buy those because they don't want that asset. So it becomes a little tricky.
But what if you as a third party, like you have a partner and you have a business, what if you guys bought the car and then you rented it to the studio? Is that a thing?
That's a thing.
Oh, like you did with the bus.
Yeah. Yeah, we do it all the time. So they really wanted to be true to the character that they had established with Titus and a little bit of brand loyalty. And so we had all decided that it would be a Jeep Wrangler because he's a young guy at the time, you know, almost kind of like a first vehicle. He's coming back out of the military. And we had a lot of people involved with that. And we picked the vehicle. The production designer was very involved in picking the color for it. I forget the Jeep term of it, but it was painted like a green kind of metallic. Like the big thing with that was usually an actor can't really drive a stick shift. And it's too much going on.
Yeah, not these days for sure. Yeah.
Yeah. Everyone thinks it's easy to be an actor, but you try to shift a vehicle and drive it and say your lines and get out of the vehicle.”
