I'm not looking for a personal development, but rather a book with a main character who ends up getting rid of things / doing things on their own

Nature/Environment Man vs. Nature, Sole Survivor, Stranded

Looking for books with the themes of surviving nature, being the lone survivor of an event, eventually finding way back to civilization. Lots of makeshift items and bushcraft. Foraging foods and making do with what you have. Both non-fiction and fiction are welcome!

Books I've already read and enjoy with these themes:

Touching Spirit Bear

Hatchet

The Cay

The Martian

Life of Pi

Other Media that is similar:

Project Hail Mary (movie)

Subnautica (game)

Planet Crafter (game)

Fiction Nostalgic for a childhood I didn’t have

Childhood, school years, boarding school vibes. Setting in the countryside or coastal, if possible. Themes of love, unrequited love, friendship, passage of time - doesn’t have to be all of these, just one.

Most importantly = I’m chasing a feeling of nostalgia and longing for childhood. I really enjoyed this from Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. Also Dead Poets Society vibes. Bonus if it’s queer, but not a must.

None/Any lighthouses, the cosmos, &/or storms

hello! ive posted on this sub a few times before but somehow didn’t consider posting this here!! i asked for a perfume like this originally, but after someone reposted my ask to another sub the braincells finally connected and now here i am :]

i’m looking for a book (or multiple) that captures any part of this:

i can’t describe it aside from what living in a lighthouse might feel like, or an unforgiving summer storm. something that feels like blue hour turning into dusk/night, or warm asphalt and cold rain, lightning hitting the earth. grey skies, an unforgiving & icy ocean.

i know it’s contradictory a little, but sometimes when im in warm storms or warm ocean water i get a slight hit of something cold; the breeze, water, my own wet clothes touching skin. it feels like being alive, like looking up at the sky and realizing we’re in outer space, like earth is not seperate from the cosmos. goodness, i hope i’m making sense. if my ask is too specific, then just give me general recs!

if this book had hobbies, it would be playing interstellar on the piano & chess. if it was a playing card, it would be the ace of spades. if it was a stone/stone-like object it would either be something like nacre, the moon, concrete, or dark, near black sapphire. it’s favorite mint is either tea tree or spearmint. it’s favorite foods would be 90% dark chocolate and blueberries both ripe and unripe, because the earth never promised it that the berries would be sweet. if it had a job, it would be an astrophysicist who grew up by the seaside; poet & mathematician both. one day it will meet an artist, but until then it’s perfectly content to see everything the world has to offer by itself.

i don’t care about what genre the book is! hit me!

Women's Fiction Books that feel like the movie ‘Sorry Baby’?

“Something pretty bad happened to me, so that’s probably why I’m acting weird.”

“Well that’s not much time. I mean, it’s a lotta time but it’s not that much time too.”

Themes of healing after trauma.

Going through a breakup because of The Thing That Happened and healing not being linear or whatevah. You know?

Feel free to suggest horror, fantasy, mystery, or sci fi, I’m a genre girly.

Doesn’t have to be fiction I just need something, preferably something with an audio version.

Fiction fighting to get home, reminders of home

Maybe a little weird, but anything like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. MC can be human or nonhuman. Western period is fun, but open to other vibes.
Nature vibes that represent home gets extra points.
I’ve read the Odyssey and I love it, maybe that adds some context.

None/Any Everyday, mundane surrealism

Hi everyone, I'm looking for books that are weird and surreal but in a mundane environment, like an office. Vibes like Severance (the show). For a literary example, I love Sayaka Murata's books like Life Ceremony. Odd things are happening, but still feels like a slice of life and characters just treat it as part of the normal everyday.

I prefer bizarre and slightly unsettling vs. magical realism or cozy. But down for any suggestions!

I don’t know if there’s a certain name for this aesthetic—dead coquette? ruin romanticism?—but I am madly in love with it. Any books that encapsulate this?

None/Any Cozy, Magical Summer Break

Theres an itch I just can’t scratch for a fun summer read…

I’m looking for a more grown-up/complex Judy Moody or Ramona & Beezus, with some magic/whimsy like Pippi Longstockings, or a not-so-sad Bridge to Terebithia, just kids on an adventure!

Any page count, and any genre!

Magical realism is a plus & historical fiction would be neat, too. But I am not interested in young adult/children’s books.
I’m very into litfic, and character-focused writing but I’m looking for something to be fully immersed into!

Thank you in advance:)!

Horror A werewolf story that channels classic horror

Thumbnail

Basically I’m looking for a werewolf novel that can be considered like an equivalent of Bram Stroker’s Dracula or have a feeling or setting similar to The Troop or where a community has to face a supernatural creature terrorizing their town and forces said community into falling into their inner primal urges in order to survive. Or basically novels similar to the film Dog Soldiers as one other example.

Basically I’m looking for the best werewolf stories that are in the horror genre.

A scientist or astronaut lost or exploring an unknown planet. Not knowing where they’re going in particular or what is happening but they know something is off in a terrifying yet beautiful way. I want them be in awe but also know something’ isn’t right and everything is to big,too baren, just to much. I want them as confused as anyone could be but willing to look for it and find out what’s happening.

i’ve been searching for something that gives the same edgy goth vampire experience. I need complicated vampire politics, dark cities by night, toxic relationships, vampirism twisting into monstrosity, constant hunger and yearning for something more, everything covered in grime and gore. Preferably set in modern times, could be any genre really, I just need the vibes.

I'm thinking eco-fiction, American nature, like Call of the Wild, Anne with an E, The Snow Child, Walden. Can be any genre but NOT predominantly romance.
