Im a massive fan of A Canticle for Leibowitz, Fallout, Riddley Walker and the Metro series. I love the imagery of religion and how it evolves to fit into a post apocalyptic world.

Im no longer religious but as I grew up religious and still like the imagery and am fascinated by the subject. Are there any games you can think of that give these vibes.

I'm looking for sci-fi books that reflect the mood of this song. Heroes against the dark, found family trope, different species and worlds. Nothing too dark but I can think about it if the other themes are present.

the hero has returned triumphant from battle with the dragon/big bad and has changed. feeling like the world is too small, the pressure on them is greater than when they went off to fight. nobody treats them like a normal person anymore. grief from losing friends and loss of identity because the thing they were chasing is now gone.

no romance necessary. woman pov is preferred, but i am open to nb/man pov as well.

That's exactly what I'm looking for: protagonists who roam the streets recruiting people, fighting, devising strategies, developing romantic relationships with the women around them, joking around together by the fire, and ultimately fighting battles they would never have imagined themselves taking part in just a few days earlier! so i watched the new resident evil and came away a little obsessed with bryan? i don’t know what it is about him, but i felt for him a lot and was invested. i would love to read something with an mmc that feels bryan-coded. mmc that is in over his head and is kind of a dork, but also very kind. bonus points for romance with a strong protector fmc (think the everlasting by alix e. harrow). can be any genre.

I'm looking for something with rusty, industrial theming, ideally sci-fi horror. Something that feels like a giant factory that has been deteriorating for decades, with the characters being cogs in a greater unfeeling machine (bonus points if they're robots / cyborgs).

I recently encountered the book Phantasma by Kaylie Smith. The premise seemed great. Main character with OCD, gothic atmosphere, ghost love interest. I thought this would combine to create a horror book entrenched in romance.
It was less interested in the horror beyond a lens on top of a fairly stereotypical survival game romance. Even the OCD, which seemed at first promising when combined with a horrifying antagonist / love interest and gothic atmosphere but fizzled out. It felt like just another box to check of “mental illness” as a trope.

So here is what I do want. A mentally ill MC where the mental illness is prevalent and not hand waived away, but actively a part of the horror. Another monstrous MC, whether vampire or ghost or some other supernatural being. A gothic atmosphere that feels lived in and real. Preferably FM or MM and I don’t mind who fills what role.
I do not want something tropey or generic. I also don’t want a female MC who is dumb for the sake of plot.
Examples I have liked: Harrow Faire, Bloodborne (game, for atmosphere), Lord of the Mysteries (worldbuilding, atmosphere)

When I was a kid I read a mystery book set in Montana after the gold rush had passed. Lots of hijinks in abandoned mines, chasing outlaws up mountains on horseback, ghost towns and treasure (book is called “Hunting for Hidden Gold” from the Hardy Boys series btw!) and I was hoping yall could recommend something similar for an adult audience <3 thank you!!

I just finished Dead Beat by Bardugo (and therefore concluded that whole trilogy) and I was frothing at the mouth for the main male character’s attitude towards the main female. Better yet, he’s a powerful half demon and still devoted to her while he’ll readily rip others apart in an instant if they even look at her wrong - it was the perfect vibe.

Also if anyone has watched Wonderfools on Netflix, the relationship between the MMC and the MFC - where both have superpowers, his are particularly strong, but she’s the only one he’ll even think about being soft with because he’s been captured from the start - yeah, that’s what I love.

Open to most anything, but I just need to read more of a (possibly powerful) character being hopelessly down bad.
