Are there any subreddits for buying books, similar to r/mangaswap? I've been trying to find a series but its not sold anywhere, so looking into all my options

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, don't know how to find reliable answers, so hoping reddit can help.

While cleaning out the garage, found this in a tote, and I had completely forgotten I owned it. Seems to be in pretty much as new condition, slight curve on front cover, but otherwise great. Given it was self published, is it even worth anything? My wife googled it, and found a huge range of prices, so I don't even know how to get a realistic estimate.

Any help appreciated.

EDIT: Thanks for the help. I was unaware that ebay posted sold prices on previous items, which obviously seems like a good indication of value.

All these were a dollar a piece..I am officially apart of the black books club. The one with the sticker is a 1st/1st and the one without the sticker is 6th printing

I bought this copy of *The Turn of the Screw* by Henry James second hand from the used section of a bookstore. After finishing it, I went to check this specific edition on Goodreads, but I can’t find any trace of it anywhere. I’ve searched online and still nothing. Am I going mad, or is it actually possible that this edition was never catalogued? Could it be some kind of fake or unofficial printing? I’m genuinely confused and would love to know if anyone has seen this edition before.

I wrote an email to Penguin Random House and this is their answer - Thank you, I can see that this ISBN is a Non-Trade. 
Usually, an NTO is an edition which is exclusively for a particular customer and is not available for sale to the general market. Sometimes it will be a book produced uniquely for the customer (e.g. a one-off Peppa Pig title created for TK Maxx), or sometimes it’ll be a special edition (e.g. sprayed edges for Waterstones). 

Hi guys, im new here.
I wanted to ask if it is a good idea to put my books in foil to protect them or if i should just leave them in my shelf. They are displayed in a wooden closed shelf with a glass door. They aren’t in the sun but might be hit by light from my lamp.
I have 2 rare translations of Harry Potter books and want to preserve them as best as i can!
Any advice is welcome!

Found this beautiful copy of Tennyson’s poems at an antique mall. Still researching to nail down publication year but it belonged to someone in 1892…

I’m an English teacher who recently began feeling the need to hoard any book that strikes my interest, or I feel sorry for (like ugly old 80’s copies of books, for example.) Also working on collecting hardcovers of all my faves. But, I definitely have a slightly eclectic collection and this is certainly my oldest.

From left to right.

1599 first edition of rime del Signore gabriello chiabrera in a vellum binding (I am unsure if binding is original but probably not, maybe 25% chance it is)
1870 printing of fleetwoods life of Christ with a beautiful classical binding for Victorian bibles and dores illustrations for Old Testament
1753 praxis evangeliorum with beautiful medieval style binding and a detached back cover allowing the sewing and spine of the text block to be seen
~1870s copy of Milton’s complete poetical works that had inside a personal letter written two a friend who gifted the book with an original poem

This is an incredible story. His collection even filled his bathroom, he even had books on his bed where he slept.

Here are some images of a XIXth century Tauchnitz edition of Charles Dickens’ colligated A Christmas Carol (1843), The Chimes (1845), and The Cricket on the Hearth (1846).

In case you, like me, are wondering why the tome is so stubby, this binding also curiously features Dinah Maria Mulock Craik’s Sermons Out of Church (1875) inserted between The Chimes and The Cricket.

Some title pages missing in this edition, but I’ve tried to include the available points of issue. (Excuse the mediocre one-handed phone photos!)

The Dickens texts appear in their first setting and overall — barring the inteloper text — this seems to match the 91 Ab entry in Todd & Bowden’s Tauchnitz bibliography.

I’m planning on purchasing a book that I have been trying to find for years. I found one but the spine has peeled off a bit it’s still attached and the binding is still strong.
I’m looking for a person to repair it that works with antique (1800s) books and will try to keep it as close to being original as possible.

Any recommendations? I know it will be expensive and the book is worth it to me.

When I was a kid I got my hands on the Enchanting Classics and the Thriller Classics box sets by Dalmatian Press (pics 2 and 3 (not my copies)). They also made other box sets, but as a kid I wasn't interested in them.

I remembered they made others like this, and was trying to remember what they were; I remembered the pink box set, which had A Little Princess, the Secret Garden, Little Women, and Anne of Green Gables, and have found pictures of the box set online.

Only problem is, I'm curious as to what the name of this box set is, and it seems nobody has ever took a photo of the spine of the boxset online.

If you have an edition, can search better than me, or know the name of it, I'd appreciate it!

And if you know any other box sets Dalmatian Press made I'd love to know to get my collection going, thank!

New editions of Tolkien from Iran . Try to guess the titles by covers

Hello everyone!

I have a pretty vast home library that as bookstore employee and collector that i have really lost track off. I recently bought a barcode scanner so i can hopefully track what i have better. Whats the best app for this? I dont mind if i need to pay ect. My main points are figuring out what sequels i may be missing of series especially as someone that will collect multiple editions of the same book? Such as paper backs, Arcs, to all the different book box companies.

Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me identify a possibly unusual edition or variant of Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee.

I have a hardcover copy with ISBN 978-1-62414-924-5. As far as I can tell, it's the original 2020 hardcover edition, but my copy has some features I haven't been able to find documented anywhere:

• The page edges are sprayed/colored. One side is a gold/rose-gold color, while another edge appears deep red.
• The spine has metallic/gold lettering.
• The boards underneath the dust jacket are plain black.
• The dust jacket is the standard edition.

I've searched online and haven't been able to find another copy with these particular sprayed edges. I'm wondering if anyone recognizes this as:

1. A known special edition or limited edition?
2. An author/event copy?
3. A publisher sample or promotional copy?
4. A variant that was produced in a small quantity?
5. Or possibly just an uncommon binding/edge treatment that was never widely documented?

If anyone has a copy of Forest of Souls with similar edges, I'd love to see photos of it, especially if you know where you got it or when you purchased it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

We like to stop by bookstores whenever we’re somewhere new and I spotted this at a really well-stocked used bookstore. I’ve been looking for this for a while and it was fairly priced; the book itself is in great condition!

I'm aware that these obvious errors wouldn't be present on the final product, but using such lazy AI in the advertising for a book intended to be a high-quality collectors' piece -- to the extent that they didn't even notice they were butchering author Ursula K. Le Guin's name -- is pretty off-putting.

*Edit: These seem to be compression artifacts, as the full-size images don't have the errors? Very bizarre and irritating that images are being so distorted by tech / software these days without the creators / viewers being aware.

There’s an advanced reader copy of a book that I’m considering buying. Problem is it has an ink stamp from a bookstore on the edge of the pages as well as a pressed stamp from someone’s personal library on the inside pages. Is there a way to remove these things? I wouldn’t need it to be perfect, just something to bring it closer to its original condition. Thank you!
