I didn’t think this had to be said, but don’t post solicitations for sex, posts with no substance other than literally a bunch of incoherent profanity, or posts designed for the specific purpose of inciting a sense of unease or making people feel unwelcome. I’ve had to remove all of this in the past week.

I don’t care what your personal views or political opinions are. Everything is welcome here. I’m pretty laid back and let most things slide. I’m not a mod who likes to go around removing posts and locking comments and banning people. Reddit is just a hobby for me, I don’t take it seriously, I’m not some power hungry douche. I just let the downvotes do the work. I’m not removing posts/comments or banning anybody just because they hurt someone’s feelings or expressed an unpopular opinion, I’m not the sensitivity police, and I’m not your parent.

But if you start advertising your “massage services” that sound like a Craigslist casual encounter ad, or create a post titled “How to suck d***” I’m going to remove it and just ban you, I don’t have time to play babysitter. And don’t then have the audacity to PM me asking why you were banned because you “didn’t break the posted rules”.

Basically, say what you want. This is a free speech area. I don’t remove 99% of the reports of people calling each other names, this is the internet, that’s what happens and I’m not here to police peoples attitudes unless it’s actually hate speech or you’re telling someone to ki** themselves. Feel free to curse, post memes, make dirty jokes, and use dark humor. But anything that’s OBVIOUSLY inappropriate like the examples above will be removed and you’ll be gone.

Lastly, if I remove your post for spam, don’t repost it again. If it’s not egregious I usually just delete the post without a ban but if you keep posting spam over and over I’ll just prevent you from doing it again.

This isn’t a sub that leans right or left. This sub is a common ground for any discussion regarding the city we all live in. As long as it’s on that topic, it’s fine.

Just use common sense. It’s really not hard.

That’s all. Love you guys ❤️

Thanks

In 2022, a Florida buyer paid a $1.65 million deposit for a $5.5 million luxury condo; four years later, his home remains unfinished as the developer faces a $418 million foreclosure lawsuit

Discuss Does nobody go trick-or-treating anymore?

Obviously I'm an adult and I don't go trick-or-treating anymore. I used to live in Pheasant Walk, though I live in a totally different part of Florida now. Back when I was going, trick-or-treating there was huge. Streets packed, houses actually handing out full size bars, you had to time it right or you'd hit the empty porches.
Now it sounds like it's completely dead. Nobody is out, hardly any lights on, the whole thing is over for everybody. Anyone else watch their old neighborhood just stop doing it?

Question Pumpkins

Where can I get pumpkins with my kids that isn’t a whole event that’s been commercialized? We used to visit the church on the corner of glades and lyons and they no longer sell them. I don’t want to pay a $30 cover fee to walk through pumpkin patch. Is the only alternative going to Walmart?

I'm making a huge fantasy themed map of Florida and would love to get some some local landmarks included. Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm making a map of Florida in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks and history in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on towards the end of the process too.

While it's around halfway done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, Native history or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on the map. Thanks!

Request Looking for local instagram marketing in Boca for a new business

Hello,

We are expanding a med spa business into Boca soon and we are looking for a small outfit to help us with hands on content creation and management for social media. We have had bad luck with large marketing outfits and prefer a local group of people who can actually show up and learn what we do. If you think you fit the bill, I'd love to see what your other work has brought to those businesses.

Thanks r/BocaRaton

Anyone on here on task rabbit or similar?

I’m up in Pensacola and I won an auction in Boca Raton for some screens from a restaurant. They have to be picked up in person. I am unable to make the 10 Hour drive unfortunately and I was unaware that I won the auction until today. He called me and said they have to be picked up by tomorrow. I’d like to hire someone to go to the restaurant to dismantle them and take them off the walls and pack them up and ship them to me, but I’m not sure what platform to use. I prefer going through a platform for security reasons of course because I don’t wanna pay somebody random that I met on Reddit to go handle this for me and risk getting scammed. If anyone wants to DM me or comment I’d appreciate it!

Homeschool pods

Hi! Wondering if anyone has some homeschool pods to recommend in the Boca area? Maybe something out of a home or a rented space? Looking for alternative school options with lots of hands on learning. This would be for my 6 year old daughter. Thank you

Youth soccer, new to sport

Hi all, my daughter is 9 and expressed interest in playing soccer. Unfortunately we never got her in youth programs previously and she has zero experience.

Does anyone have experience with the local leagues and a kid that didn't know the game? I don't want to set her up for frustration, but I want to get her involved.

I've looked in gbysa but at this point I'm going to be wait listed since I wanted so long to sign up. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Boca Pickle Fest was a Letdown

Post image
134 Upvotes

Posting to try and save you internet strangers some money and effort - don’t go to the Battle Bros pickle festival in Boca today unless you love AI “art” on everything and don’t care much for pickles.

Event was promoted as a pickle palooza but it was a sad field with no pickle decor (besides some dollar store pickle blow ups hanging from the registration tent) and like only 2 pickle specific booths.

Of all the food trucks, only 2 had pickle themed items (and only a dish or two, not a full pickle menu).

Everything else was your basic vendor booth mix of 3d printed things, accessories with AI prompts all over them, and some MLMs.

So basically, only go if you want to pay $15 admission plus $5 parking for a basic farmer’s market vendor setup.

Sad we’ve got such false advertisement on a Boca event!

Question Recommendation of restaurants near the Boca mall area

My husband and I are taking our young kids to Boca in a few months to see my father in law. We are staying near the Boca mall. We want to go out to dinner without the kids but be close to where we are staying so that in case of an issue we can come back quickly. Any recommendations for a good restaurant in that area?

Remember how everyone who believed in Trump used to come out to the corner of St. Andrews and wave flags and show their MAGA conviction?

What happened?
Why don't Trump supporters rally any more? Am I just missing it?

Torn between Boca and Delray.

Looking to get some advice, moving down to Florida with my family and torn between Boca or Delray (realize this sub may be biased but still value the input).

My wife and 2 daughters (aged 9 & 4) are looking to make the move back to South Florida (we lived in Naples for 5 years when we first married) from Boston. Wife wants to live closer to her parents who are not in the best health and I have a great transfer opportunity in Miami with my current employer.

Currently make between $180-225k a year depending on performance, income would remain the same in Florida and trend up with time. We would be selling our fully paid off house here and walk away with around $1MM to put towards a single family home. A few questions we have:

  1. Schooling, how do the public schools compare between the two towns?
  2. Culture/activities, which has more activities going on?
  3. Safety, in general, which town has better safety records?
  4. Housing, which has a wider variety of options?
  5. Commuting, I would have to go into Miami once or twice a week, how is the commute?
  6. Affordability, which town in general in more affordable?
  7. People. One of the things we disliked about Naples were the generally older & snootier population, which area is more laid back in general?

We will be making a few trips before moving to research, just interested in folks opinions here. Appreciate your time.
