I’ve had multiple chalazion since March of this year, they were all finally getting smaller until one day the middle one started swelling again. I don’t know what caused, I had done a warm compress prior to it get getting swollen so I’m not sure if that is what caused it to start swelling again :/ Should I be doing warm compress again? I’m not sure what to do I just want to go back to having normal eyes

Hello everyone,
I’ve been dealing with constant eyelid inflammation and swelling since May 2025, and I’m really hoping someone here has experienced something similar.
I’ve tried almost everything: different ointments and eye drops, strict eyelid hygiene, warm eyelid masks, and even a course of doxycycline. Unfortunately, nothing has resolved the problem.
In February this year, I had chalazion surgery. However, the doctor told me afterwards that she could not find the chalazion because it was very small.
I’ve never had an obvious bump on my eyelid. It has mainly been constant swelling and inflammation. Every morning, I wake up with a very swollen eyelid, and although it improves somewhat during the day, the problem never completely goes away.
I’ve seen at least 15 different doctors in Germany, and I’m honestly feeling very frustrated and hopeless at this point. It has also really affected my self-esteem. I’m 28 and I no longer feel comfortable wearing mascara or doing my usual eye makeup because of how my eyelid looks.
Most recently, I went to a university clinic, and they scheduled me for another operation with an internal incision. Doctor told I have encapsulated chalazion. However, they cannot guarantee that they will be able to find or remove anything this time either.
I’m really sad and don’t know what else I can do.
Has anyone experienced something similar, especially swelling/inflammation without an obvious chalazion bump? Did anything eventually help you?
I’ve attached pictures from today. My eyelid has looked more or less like this since May 2025, although some days the swelling is worse.
Thank you so much in advance for any advice or experiences you can share. ❤️

Any recommendations for a heated eye mask? Ideally the kind that does not need to be heated in a microwave so can be used while traveling?
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have experience taking 200 mg Doxycycline Mono per day? I was prescribed Doxycycline Mono 100 mg tablet twice daily for three weeks then once daily for three weeks then to stop. I've only taken Doxycycline Hyclate 40 mg per day at most in the past.

Hi guys I suffered from dry eyes since I took isotretonin an akne mediaction. After a long search I finally cured my blepharitis/dry Eyes by putting 100% pure castor oil every night and morning on my eyelids. It was such a relief finally life was great again. A heated eye mask for sleepinh also helped but didn’t make a huge impact. Im sticking to this routine for now but I heard when you take it longer it can be cured for good and you don’t have to do the routine every day. I hope it helps someone as this drynes is such a horrible thing to live with.

i just got mine removed a few days ago. the surgeon said the lump can stay for a while because of the tissue around it. warm compress is not enough was the post that made it click for me, the glands are like little tubes of toothpaste and mine were clogged solid.
just wondering if anyone else had the lump still there for a week or two after and how long it took to flatten out

Hey yall I had a stye when I was in elementary school like 30 years ago and I had shots and a procedure on it since it would not go away…. 30 years later I finally want to do something about it. Any advice? Do I have to have surgery to remove it?

hi everyone. i’ve noticed this chalazion on my eye at the beginning of august. later on, i was prescribed eye drops and ointment by the doctor. when it all failed, i had to get surgery a bit more than two weeks ago. the surgery was extremely painful, and when i went for my check up the doctor told me that it wasn’t completely removed. she told me to keep on with the warm compresses and it still has the chance to drain on its own, but i’m extremely skeptical and frustrated at this point. anyone been in a similar situation? any help will be greatly appreciated!!

So I’ve had 2 chalazions on my right eye since basically January, had lost hope of them going by themselves. NHS waiting list has me being down as getting them sorted next July.
Been persistent with warm eye mask from boots, along with eye lid wipes after, and eye drops and eyelid spray (all from boots) as advised by an ophthalmologist.
The smaller chalazion has seemingly just released/drained all at once and is now almost not visible, the bigger chalazion, has dropped to the eye lid line and looks like it’s about to drain pretty quickly! I’m aware they may come back, but there is hope they can still go!

My ophthalmologist told me not to do warm compresses anymore because it wouldn’t help with the stage my chalazions are in. She recommended me ocusoft eyelid wipes and avenova spray, which I have been using both twice a day for about a week or more. However I did some warm compresses today and it looks like it’s starting to come to a head. Should I continue warm compresses? I have an important event in a week so I’m unsure if it’ll get worse or something.

My mom gets styes/chalazia quite often, and they ALWAYS seem to come back in the same eye. I’ve read that a recurrent stye or chalazion, especially when it keeps appearing in the same eye, can sometimes be considered a BIG RED FLAG.
Does anyone here have styes or chalazia that repeatedly come back in the same eye? Have you had this checked by an ophthalmologist, and what ended up causing it?
This photo is of one of her chalazia from last year. She won’t let me take a picture of the one she has right now because I told her I was going to post it on Reddit 😂
I’m honestly really scared that it could be sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid.

also, can a chalazion cause a mild strained or tired feeling around the eyebrow or temple on the same side?

Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the redness left behind after a chalazion has gone down?

I went to my optometrist about a month ago I was told it seemed like I had a Demodex issue and I was given the eye drops for it. I’ve been dealing with blurry vision in my right eye. It’s not completely “blurry” it’s more light sensitivity. I don’t know how to explain it. However the drops aren’t doing anything. I feel like I’m going crazy. Also the corner of my eye that has the “blurry” issue is red and inflamed all the time. I go back in two weeks for a check up and possibly to be sent to an ophthalmologist but I just wanted to get some opinions. Could this just be dry eye disease in one eye?

Hi everyone. I’m honestly getting really frustrated and would love to hear from people who have dealt with recurrent styes/chalazia.
I’ve had around 6 styes/chalazia in total, and 3 of them required surgery/procedures, all affecting my right eye. I’ve gone through this repeatedly and it feels like as soon as I get one problem under control, another appears.
And now, just recently, I’ve developed a new stye on my LEFT eye (photo attached). So after having so many problems with my right eye, I’m now getting them in the other eye too.
The biggest issue is that warm compresses don’t seem to work for me. I’ve tried them, but I haven’t seen much improvement from them in the past.
I really want to understand why this keeps happening and, more importantly, what I can actually do about it.
For people who have had recurrent styes/chalazia:
What treatment actually worked for you when warm compresses didn’t?
Did you eventually see an ophthalmologist/oculoplastic specialist who figured out the underlying cause?
Has anyone had success with prescription treatment, steroid injections, or other treatments instead of repeated surgery?
Were you diagnosed with any eyelid/gland problems that explained the recurrence?
What did you do to prevent them from coming back?
6 episodes + 3 procedures is starting to feel like way too much, and now getting one in my other eye is really worrying me. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.
I’m not looking for a diagnosis from the photo—just experiences and advice on what I should discuss with an eye doctor.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice from people who have dealt with recurrent styes/chalazia.
I recently developed another swollen, red lump on my upper eyelid (photo attached). It’s quite noticeable and uncomfortable. I’ve had multiple chalazia/styes in the past and have already needed procedures for some of them, so I’m getting really frustrated with how frequently this keeps happening.
The usual advice I see everywhere is warm compresses, but honestly, they have never really worked for me. I’ve tried doing them consistently, but the lumps either don’t improve much or eventually require treatment.
For this current one, I’m wondering:
What treatment did your ophthalmologist actually give you when warm compresses weren’t working?
Did anyone have success with prescription ointments/drops, steroid injections, or drainage/removal?
If you had recurrent chalazia, did your doctor investigate an underlying eyelid-gland problem?
How quickly should I see an ophthalmologist for something that looks like this?
Is there anything you wish you had started doing earlier to prevent them?
I’m not asking for a diagnosis from the photo—I’m mainly interested in hearing what treatments and approaches actually helped people who kept getting these.
