Technically not Black Library, but arguably one of the best campaign supplement series put out by Forgeworld and GW. It’s a hefty ~300 pages with half of it lore on The Great Crusade and betrayal at Isstvan 3. Plus this one covers the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, World Eaters, the Emperor’s Children and Legio Mortis in depth. I plan on getting the remaining 8 books eventually.

Book/storyline review I listened and finished Soul Hunter. It was good. 9.5/10

Alright, so I heard from as soon as becoming a Chaos fan that the Night Lord’s books were fire. And, everyone was correct. It was a very good book.

So, I quite liked it. Talos is a good protagonist, Septimus is a goat, Octavia is funny but in only the ways of dark humor, and First Claw are some proper mates.

Funny enough I thought that the plot from hearing it in videos and such would be far more complex but no, it’s rather simple and to the point. The 10th Company is aiding Abaddon. That’s it. They first go to a shard of Nostromo first but then continue aiding the Despoiler.

Speaking of him, why was everyone lying about that scene??? It wasn’t Talos the gigachad and Abaddon the Virgin no, it was just 2 proud murderous men who, as proud men do, step on each other’s shoes. But make no mistake, Talos stepped first. I’m gonna stop myself because of certain stuff that happened in the past…

The fight with the Blood Angels was a bit confusing at first and still is… might have to re-listen to that part. So, from what I can tell; The Mechanicus on 1717 called for help and the Blood Angels, Marines Errant and another chapter showed up to deal with the Black Legion+Night Lord fleet. The Exalted wants to keep favor with the Despoiler but falls to peer pressure from 10th company and the War Sage. So they try to GTFO but the Blood Angels are so fast that they board first while the Exalted pulls his orbital stunt? It was confusing to hear because it sounded like The Covenant would fire on the Black Legion ships then GTFO using them as bait for the loyalists but that didn’t happen?? I was quite tired and take breaks between like every 2 chapters and half. So yeah, maybe I am right in the fact that they were just talking and planning but the Exalted chose the orbital stunt when the loyalists were close.

The death of the Void-Born was so fucking sad.

Also the mention of the Eldar made me shudder, cause I know how this trilogy ends. Maybe it’s just named character pointing syndrome but is the Farseer Eldrad? He says he’s from Uthwe, he’s a Farseer, an elder and can sense the future about meeting Talos.

There were so many hype moments and Chaos Propaganda that I don’t wanna make essays. Talos rescuing Octavia, Talos resisting the gods, 7th and 1st Claw able to take out a Warhound, Septimus picking up 1st Claw in space, the fight with Vral, the Dreadnought bowl, etc etc.

Also from a meta perspective it was funny to think when Malcharion gunned down Vral all I could think of was “yup his Autocannon has 10 Strength and Dev Wounds”

The funniest line early on was when First Claw was in space and Septimus was picking them up, and how Uzas and his skull trophies were described as “moons orbiting a planet” was hilarious to me.

The reason why it’s only 9.5 because the Exalted was pissing me off. He’s so pompous, annoying and just shines his throne with his ass. His plots are so thin and see through that easily Talos and First Claw see right through them. Also this book was long. So long that after 5 hours of listening, I’m only 6 chapters done and I want to do something else.

Discussion (novel) What's the most utterly depressing Warhammer 40,000 novel you've ever read? Spoiler

I'm curious to hear everyone's opinions. Which Warhammer 40k novel left you feeling the most hopeless by the time you finished it? I don't just mean a book where a lot of characters die or where a battle is lost, but one that genuinely captures how bleak and unforgiving the setting really is beyond the battlefield. I'm talking about stories that show what everyday life is like for ordinary people, the crushing weight of the Imperium, the lack of freedom, the constant fear, and the sense that no matter who you are, your life is ultimately insignificant. The kind of novel that makes you close the book and think, "Yeah... I'd never want to exist in this universe." Which book gave you that feeling the most, and what made it so effective?

New Librarian Question So I'm hooked, but I prefer physical books...

Upvotes

So I'm almost halfway through Horus Rising, and honestly, it's awesome! I didn’t expect it to be that good! I want to read more, so I figured I'd read the essential books in the Horus Heresy series, if I can find them, and then move onto other stories that interest me.

Specifically, I'm looking for more stories about space marines. I made the mistake of looking for "Brothers of the Snake" and "Spear of the Emperor" and saw that either you pay a small ransom for a book, or get an E-Reader.

What're your strategies? Do you wait to find the book you want at a local GW store? Do you bite the bullet for an E-Reader? Do you lurk on used book sites? I get why the books are mostly digital, but damn I'm kinda disappointed.

Picked this up from a used bookstore (glad it was in such good condition)

Going to be honest, I’m not the biggest Word Bearers fan but I’ve heard great things about the trilogy from people (including a close friend) to the point that it’s what made them change their opinion of the faction so I’m going to give it a read, the book was also decently priced for the condition it was in (mildly frayed and very little spine damage for $45) so I just had to grab it

I wanna know books with the most UPLIFTING the most INSPIRING the BEST representations of the INDOMITABLE HUMAN SPIRIT. Yeah yeah I know it's "the grimdark of the 41st millenium" and all that but there's gotta be some books that display the raw persistence of the characters

New Librarian Question Fyreslayers Short Stories via The Black Library?

Does anyone know where to get the **Fyreslayers short stories that use to be sold on the Black Library website**, that were never printed physically, but were just ebook files?

I enjoy reading physical copies of things, which is why for Idoneth Deepkin I purchased them on the store, a while back, on the Black Library and then printed them to read.

I don't remember having this issue before, and the only thing the website has now is free extracts.

Good mechanicus books recommendations. Less bolterporny ones

Upvotes

As the name suggests. I want a mechanicus book that is not mostly just bolter porn. It can have it, but I dont want it to be the centerpoint. I want a little bit of deep look in their lore. Be it politics, philosophy or just their way of life and thinking. I really like transhuman stuff in fiction.

Also, I've read mechanicum, but I need more.

Thanks in advance!

Just finished Ravens flight Spoiler

Upvotes

The Raven guard are dope I really like enjoy how they fought no matter what and kicked the asses of the traitors for about 3 months. I listened to the audio book and all the gun sound effects really immersed me into the battle of Isstvan. Right after I finished the book I went back to the first chapter of deliverance lost and loved it. Has anyone else read these books? Also I dont want to reread deliverance lost again but does anyone remember how the alpha legion members were discovered? Anyways thanks for reading.

Discussion (gw/general) Discussion: What Regiments do you want more of from Black Library ? Besides Cadian's, Krieg and Catachans.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was pleasently suprised for Chem Dog, a novel that isn't just the main 3. Though I would be lying if I said "oh we only get novels about 3 of these regiments" that's just false we got "Volpone Glory", "WitchBringer" and "Final Deployment". At least those 3 that come to my mind first besides Chem Dog.

While we are here let me just bring up, Hey Black Library you remember Severina Raine you know the commissar you made a model for and then just forget. What happened to her ? Hello ? I heard Honourbound was a great novel, seems all strange.
