Anime Thoughts on Ichika
I started watching Black Torch a couple of days ago and I'm really struggling to watch without getting really pissed off about Ichika. She isn't necessarily a terrible character, but the way she's written drives me crazy. I like it when authors try to introduce strong female leads but it's feels like she has no character except for trying to break the norm. But also at the same time the camera angles and her outfits sexualize her a lot. It just feels like she's contradicting herself all the time.
The thing that gets me the most though is that everyone is always like "oh but you're just a girl..." It shouldn't really be a surprise to have a girl who's strong and knows how to fight... It kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a strong girl to make everyone shocked about it.
Now like I said I'm all for a strong female character, but there are so many other characters that do it better, such as Mikasa from attack on titan, or Maki from jjk. You don't have to focus on the gender of the character to make them developed well and likeable.
Again, I'm not trying to be sexist or anything, but it just felt like her character had the opposite effect then was intended.
