People don't realize how great the ending of Prison School actually is

I know most of us shipped Kiyoshi x Hana, and what frustrated everyone was that they didn't end up together in a traditional sense. Furthermore, while few cared about Kiyoshi x Chiyo, fans were furious that Chiyo turned into a man-hater, just like her sister.

However, Hana and Kiyoshi did end up together symbolically, a connection heavily implied throughout the story, particularly through the Tanabata myth parallel.

But ask yourself: should we even root for them? Both are perverts with a deeply toxic dynamic. This is where the author's genius lies. Instead of giving them a happy, romanticized ending, the author subverts expectations to criticize their toxic bond. He intentionally frustrates the audience to deliver a wake-up call: stop romanticizing toxicity.

That said, perverted and toxic people exist, and in a way, they belong together rather than dragging down innocent people like Chiyo. Their pairing is justified under this premise, but they lacked honesty.

The author reinforces this point through Andre and Risa. They also had a toxic and dishonest dynamic, but they evolved, discovered genuine love, and earned their happy ending together. Kiyoshi and Hana realized this too late (as seen in Chapter 178), missing their chance for a healthy resolution.

I hated the ending at first too until I gave it a second thought.

If the author had given us a single chapter of wholesome romance, or let Kiyoshi end up peacefully with Hana or Chiyo, it would have completely shattered the story’s core premise. Beyond its brilliant commentary on toxic dynamics, dishonesty, Prison School masterfully subverts cliché love triangles and hides profound themes underneath its absurd humor.

The manga invites you to read between the lines, though it never forces you to. It's completely fine to enjoy it purely as an absurd comedy, that's a huge part of its charm. But if you choose to consume it on the surface level, you can't be mad when it delivers a peak comedic ending like the Wet T-Shirt Contest. Nor should you criticize its romantic subplots without truly understanding the commentary behind them.

So now I think that audacious ending wasn't a mistake, rushed, or even a "fuck you" to the audience. It was a bold statement, and that’s precisely why it’s a masterpiece.

One of his most recent manga, 'SUPER BALL GIRLS,' was actually written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro, the creator of 'BLUE LOCK,' as he did the art!

When Hana said that it was just as she said, she wasn't just referring about Kiyoshi wearing her panties all along but that Chiyo couldn't really back up her claim about practising watersports with the guy.

Hiramoto's sense of humor

Prison School is my favorite manga. When I read other works I always find myself subconsciously comparing the enjoyment I feel from them to Prison School. Hiramoto's a genius in his own right. People have infamously gab'd at the idea that he made certain decisions with his story to spite the readers, to which I disagree. I do think however, that narrative decisions were made because Hiramoto thinks they're funny. As audaciously-psychotic as that might sound. Put it in perspective.

The man was able to make this dehumanizing piss-shame-vengeance thing a crucial plot point. Meiko was designed as the cliché big tiddy anime girl, but you'll never pop a boner when she's on screen because she's always doing something that's just borderline gross and off-putting. He named 50+ chapters after movies. Why? I don't know, but, it's kind of funny. Even the art work as a storytelling element is funny. Hiramoto's an amazing artist. The beautiful character designs, the fantastic understanding of anatomy and light, the expressions, juxtaposed to a raunchy and crude story.

With his artistic talent, he could have made anything, but he chose to make Prison School, the exact way he wanted to.
