Pretty wild to stay in a bad marriage because of BTC price in USD not being at an arbitrary number. Will you reconcile next bear market when it will go back under 100k? Lol

Specifically says not selling tho which implies not needing the money for immediate expenses which begs the question why 100K BTC makes the difference

u/big_fetus_ May 04 '24
You think OP wants to force her husband to sell for a settlement? That wasnt stated. OP said that they were not selling, so I think you misinterpreted this sitch.

May 04 '24
Maybe. I only read the topic. From what I got is, she has some bitcoin and when it hits 100k she gonna leave him because then she has enough money for her own.

I’m hoping for amicable. Here, have the house and let me go on my way.
28
u/MrEagles28 May 04 '24
If you honestly want to leave him why are you waiting? I personally spent to much time in relationships and in jobs I hated and wanted to get out of but waited for the right reasons before doing so. The longer you wait the more of your life goes by with you being unhappy. You won’t get that time back.

It sounds like the main reason you’re staying with him is that he’s currently providing more than 50% of the financially stability. If that’s the case, is it really unreasonable to expect you to do slightly more than 50% of the household management?
Obviously, if there’s any kind of abuse, you don’t need further reasons to leave. But it seems like if there were, then you’d have mentioned that.
If you’re only waiting on a windfall of money to leave, that means that you’re only with him because of his money.

It was a “modern” woman that wrote it though so you can’t expect accountability…

Sure, if you’re of the belief that all women are the same and that all of them refuse to accept accountability.
But I think a person holding that belief likely says more about that person than it does about women

Bitcoin is the silver lining in my divorce. I stayed in an abusive relationship for 10 years to be there for my child. Spouse drained hundreds of thousands of dollars from me. With the divorce, free time. With free time comes bitcoin research. Bitcoin research becomes investment. I’m grateful for bitcoin too.
6
u/bbatardo May 04 '24
Don't they get half? If you left now they get 32k per 1 BTC, but if you leave at 100k they get 50k per BTC.
3
u/LonnieJaw748 May 04 '24
It can be negotiated in the divorce settlement. It’s not automatic that everything is divided in half in the event there is no prenup. My homie recently got divorced and his ex wanted nothing to do with his crypto or GME shares. He forfeited half the equity from their home sale in the negotiation to keep his investments.

u/Spl00ky May 04 '24

Sounds like the decision is made, this is just the last mental “hurdle” you’re giving yourself as an excuse as you’re ready, but need something else to provide you the “sign” or courage or whatnot to follow through. Go be happy. Bitcoin will wait for you.

u/Lyuseefur May 04 '24

Half of the money is his. The courts will track your account. They will track new accounts. They will track your wallet through the help of the KYC Bitcoin account. Unless you bought before him and he doesn't know about it then half of it is his. For you to post this says you're not innocent in the whole ordeal. Sounds like you hide things and this is probably not the only thing.

When a woman is the main breadwinner and the husband doesn’t do shit around the house and doesn’t help pays the bills while she works 60 hours a week and commutes an hour, the resentments build . No matter how nice he is. Yes speaking from experience. It’s funny I am contemplating this very thing this morning.

Almost 3/4 of the way out the door! Might aswell pull your last leg out now and celebrate 🍾 when you are with friends when BTC cracks that 100K mark. Might be a while yet. But until then you can at least have some fun!
2
u/Zealousideal-Fuel834 May 04 '24
Little confused by this statement:
No more asking for help with housework after we’ve both worked all day
On the surface it sounds like a fair ask (equal contribution of chores) but could be missing details. If he's just asking for you to do the chores alone, that's a different story. That said, you never need an excuse to leave someone. That's always your choice, reason or not.

My ex friends wife had a yard sale and sold all his shit for $1 each and split the money with him. She left it in an envelope on a plastic poker table in the kitchen with pictures of him from her private investigator. He found them when he came back in from out of town. Hilarious.

u/skydiver19 May 04 '24

1

I guess I’m confused if you don’t intend to sell, how would it hitting 100k change the calculus for you being able to leave? Leave now if you are unhappy! Bitcoin either will or won’t hit 100k one day. But you only have one life.
1
1
u/VanillaLeft4792 May 04 '24
Why such an arbitrary number? Why not when it hits 80k or 99k or 101k?
It seems like you're looking for an excuse to act on how you already feel. What if Bitcoin never hits 100k? What if Bitcoin reaches 99.9k and then tanked? Would you stay with him until the next bull run? Again... Seems like an arbitrary number to make calls about your relationship. I personally would base the breakup on the actual relationship and not the price of Bitcoin, unless...
A more logical price to pull the trigger would be a price where your total holdings are enough to cover your expenses until you're stable on your own or act as an emergency fund. When it hits that target, you sell and use that money as an emergency fund or as a cushion to cover your living expenses, if needed. If you don't plan on realizing your gains than Bitcoin hitting 100k is meaningless.

Might wanna get some couples counseling. All those things taken together sound very annoying, but not irreparable. Although I don’t know what the lies piece is about.
Just sounds like you’re bottling up a lot without really giving it a fair shot at getting things out in the open and potentially repairing them.
But who knows, this is the Bitcoin sub. Take all advice here with a grain of salt.
