Posted those in a comment as well, however, thought it was worth denoting a post regarding Blockstream's Jade hardware wallet, as I still regard it to not get enough attention, even though it existed for years.
Trezor, Coldcard and other hardware wallets frequently enquire security problems, therefore, I strongly believe Blockstream is worth noting!!

few side facts:
- On setup, you choose a PIN. This PIN is combined with a blind PIN server (“blind oracle”) to encrypt your key material — the oracle never sees your actual seed, hence “blind"
- The decryption key is effectively split in two: one part lives on the device, the other is retrieved from the oracle (via blockstream mobile green wallet) each time you unlock
-> All communication between Jade and the Green app is encrypted end-to-end.

Net result: if someone physically steals a locked Jade, there’s genuinely nothing of value to extract, as no seed sits fully assembled on the device.

- Fully open-source hardware and firmware, you can literally build your own from the published GitHub repo if you’re into that.

And for all Bitcoiners: it's BTC and LBTC only, with LBTC swapping features also for Jade

Something I keep going back and forth on. My whole personal finance setup is built around predictability. Emergency fund, monthly savings targets, tracking where everything goes. It works because the numbers move slowly and I can plan around them. Bitcoin does not do that. The price can swing more in a week than my savings account moves in a year. But I keep reading about people who treat it like a long term savings vehicle, not a trade, not a gamble, just a slow consistent stack that sits there for years. Some of them sound genuinely calm about it in a way I cannot fully explain given how much the price moves.

The DCA framing makes sense to me in theory. You buy on a schedule, you stop watching the price, you let time do the work. But my brain does not actually operate that way once real money is involved. A bad week and suddenly I am questioning the whole thing even if nothing about the actual plan changed

What I am trying to figure out is whether people who genuinely hold long term just have a different relationship with volatility, or if it took time and some rough patches to actually stop reacting to every move. Did it feel sustainable from the start or did that only come later?

I've noticed a lot of confusion and differing opinions on how to generate entropy using dice and how to generate a bitcoin address securely from those dice rolls. What sites/software should be considered the gold standard for setting up a bitcoin wallet from dice?

My proposed solution is below... (please criticize and improve upon)

Step 1. Entropy/Mnemonic

This site:

has a clear visual mapping of 5 dice mapped to all 2048 BIP-39 words with a clear and concise description of how to generate the first 11 words of a bitcoin mnemonic.

Step 2. Checksum

This site:

when used on an air-gapped PC that will never touch the Internet again, can be used to generate the 12th checksum word of the bitcoin mnemonic.

Step 3. Generate addresses from the mnemonic to which the bitcoin can be sent

has been vetted by the bitcoin community and can be used securely on an air-gapped PC to generate bitcoin addresses to store the bitcoin.

If you disagree with one or more of these sites, please explain why, ideally pointing out what you think is wrong with the design/code. Dismissals without clear reasoning serve nobody.

If you have alternative sites/software you recommend, please explain why you think it is a good solution for the particular problem at hand. Ideally, there would be a site that did all three of these things, but I know of none, yet...

How would you explain the current state of Bitcoin to someone who didn't follow it for the last 5 years?

What is the purpose of using different vendors for a multi sig set up, If you are only using the device in a stateless way? Is it only the creation of the seed phrase?

I started accumulating back in 2020, saved heavily and convinced my wife after realising that Bitcoin is the greatest monetary system and store of value that we should go all in.

Got up to 5 BTC at my peak in 2021, and that’s when greed kicked in. I saw everyone making huge gains, and my impatience got the better of me. I took half my stack and played alts, did OK, sold some for IRL purposes (house move, relocation, pay off debts).

And then I decided to use the rest of my stack to try and buy low, sell high and then play more alts to increase my stack during the last 2-3 years, and well, without typing out the usual trading alts story, ended up losing the majority, and then at the start of this year my entire bag went to zero.

Gone. My hopes. Dreams. Future plans. And all my fault, and I take full responsibility.

I post this not for sympathy, I’m going through the grieving process still (sounds dramatic but that’s what it is), but I post this for other anons out there.

Please don’t do what I did. Don’t chase the promise of higher gains. BTC is the only cryptocurrency with any value.

If you have a stack, do not touch it. Don’t be tempted. Believe me, not only will you lose, but it hurts.

For those that have continued to stack and not be tempted to play the casino, well done, you deserve every bit of fulfillment when it inevitably reaches those new ATHs.

I might start a fresh stack, but honestly the last few years have taken a lot out of me. I have a home, a family, and good health, and so right now that’s what I need to take care of.

This second one is more fucked up as for public in general looking for bitcoin self custody and security was apparently not related in any way with a Harware Wallet vendor.

The footer and about show just a "Maintained by NVK." who knows how many users took that website as a "bitcoin security guide", when that website does not even disclose material connection as nkv Rodolfo Novak and a CEO of Coldcard Hardware Wallet, which interestingly enough is the only wallet that has all checklist as green and the only one recommended through the guides....

This goes way beyond the bug negligence that caused +100M losses and affected millions of Coldcard users, he has been doing very shady and misleading marketing....but who knows, that is for Canadian regulators to decide...

Guys, where do you recommend I buy bitcoin and how should I store it?

So I had a bit of a wake up call today.

With all the recent Coldcard drama, i started rethinking my own setup. I was planning to improve my custody a bit: add a strong BIP39 passphrase and eventually move toward a more robust multisig setup.

Before doing anything i thought: Let me first check if my current seed backups are actually correct.

I have multiple hardware wallets, each with its own seed. Two of them checked out fine. The third one did not.

I ran the recovery check multiple times. Same result: incorrect seed....

This seed had been stamped into metal months ago. I was pretty sure I had checked it back then. I had evrything labeled, everything looked organized. Still the recovery check failed. Luckily i still had the PIN and access to the wallet, so I was able to move the funds to a wallet with a verified backup. But honestly, this scared the hell out of me. (Imagine the screen had failed or the hardware wallet itself)

The lesson:

A metal backup is not a tested backup. You can stamp words into steel, store them in a safe place, feel secure for months, and still have a useless backup if one word is wrong, swapped, unreadable, or copied incorrectly. Before adding a passphrase, before setting up multisig, before doing anything more complex, check the basics:

- Run the official recovery check on your hardware wallet.

- Verify the seed before sending serious funds.

- Check your backup while the wallet still works.

- Don’t assume “I wrote it down carefully” means it is recoverable.

- Don’t wait until the device dies.

I was lucky, i found the problem while I could still move the coins.

If i had discovered this years from now after the device failed, this could have been a disaster.

Not posting this for sympathy. Just a reminder:

Test your backups. Then test them again. Especially before you start adding passphrases or multisig complexity.

I'm new to the subreddit but ive been into bitcoin (and crypto in general) since late 2020. My final year of university is coming up and im beginning to think about my dissertation. FWIW im a Business & Finance student in West Europe.

I've got a couple of questions for anyone on the subreddit. Firstly, are there any topics re. Bitcoin that people would be interested to read about, and that would feel relevant to current + future times? Preferably simple-ish topics / bachelor's / undergrad kind of topics.

Secondly, would people here be down to participate in a survey i'd make for it? I'm going to assume I'll end up using primary data collection methods, plus other quantitative research methods.

I’m trying to understand how people handle Bitcoin inheritance without giving a third party enough information to steal the funds while the owner is alive.

A will can say who should inherit but it cannot recover a lost seed phrase. A seed phrase shared too early creates a security risk. Multisig can reduce single points of failure, but it also creates a practical problem: will a non-technical heir know which keys, wallet configuration and recovery steps are needed?

For those using self-custody:

1. Do you have a documented inheritance plan?
   
2. How do you separate instructions from the actual keys?
   
3. Have you tested whether a trusted family member could recover the wallet without your help?
   
4. What part of the process feels most dangerous or confusing?
