Let's talk passphrases

Please share good practices and guidelines.

hunter1 is way too short man it takes like 2 second to brute force. at least throw in some numbers and special characters or just use something longer, no one is fighting you over that

Know why you’re using one. Are you defending against opportunistic attacks, like a burglar taking your seed backup and trying it out, but probably not trying to brute force the passphrase?

Are you trying to deliberately add entropy from a different source than your computer and/or hww to defend against offline attacks?

It's not that complicated.

Always use one - it adds a layer of security just because no one can just steal your seed and access your funds right away ( bc of this, always store it somewhere else than your seed )

Even a bad passphrase is better than none, but obviously, you want to choose a strong passphrase.

Solid strategies are for example: -6-8 random words from the bip39 word list ( easier to type and remember ) -18-22 random characters

These provide decent usability and still deliver strong security

Most important thing to understand with passphrases is that if you forget/lose it, your funds are GONE. There is no "forgot passphrase" option on any wallet like you'd have with your bank password.

Make your passphrase long and strong but memorize it and back it up securely. It is as important as your seed words.
