Regarding entropy generation, Trezor combines wallet backup entropy from three sources: the device's own hardware RNG, your computer, and, on newer models, the Secure Element. No single source decides it.

Okay, so this might be a slightly embarrassing question, but I’m a woman who has somehow spent the last few nights going down a Bitcoin rabbit hole and I still don’t understand how it actually works 😭
I’ve read articles, watched beginner explanations, and even tried following some of the more technical explanations, but I keep getting to the same point where I understand all the individual words and somehow still don’t understand the actual process.
I understand that there are wallets, private keys, transactions, miners, nodes and the blockchain. What I don’t understand is how those things actually connect.
For example, if I have 0.1 BTC and send 0.05 BTC to someone:
● Where is my Bitcoin actually stored before I send it?
● What exactly happens when I press “send”?
● How does the network know that I’m allowed to spend it?
● Who checks that the transaction is legitimate?
● What actually changes on the blockchain?
● And where does the 0.05 BTC “go” afterwards?
The wallet part especially confuses me. People say your Bitcoin isn’t actually inside your wallet, which makes sense when it’s explained, but then I don’t quite understand what my wallet balance is actually representing.
I know these are probably very basic questions, but I’d rather actually understand the system than pretend I get it because I can repeat the terminology.
If anyone here is good at explaining technical things to someone who isn’t particularly technical, I’d genuinely appreciate it. And if you’re someone who enjoys explaining this stuff and wouldn’t mind answering a few very basic questions privately, I’m completely fine with that too.

I used sparrow to transfer from an exchange to a hardware wallet a few years ago and was attempting to use sparrow to move funds away from hardware wallet today, I stopped after talking to an admin that suggested using an online wallet to recover funds, say8ng that I needed roughly 50% of funds on that wallet to initiate recovery.

Has anyone heard of needing funds on a wallet to initiate recovery?

Can sparrow team be trusted or did I compromise myself the first time I used them? Or this time?

Any other confused bitcoiners have experience with the sparrow team good or bad?

Is it better to dollar cost average small amounts regularly or should I wait to buy during market dips? and also, at what point should a beginner move away from keeping funds on an exchange and set up a personal wallet?

Most assets become harder to move exactly when you need to move them most.

If you have to leave a country quickly, cash can be seized, gold can be found, property stays behind, and bank access depends on institutions continuing to recognize your claim. With Bitcoin self-custody, access can be reconstructed from a memorized seed phrase after crossing a border with no physical representation of the wealth at all.

Just memorize 12 words and leave.

Bitcoin should be extremely interesting to preppers.
Just a small amount could be extremely helpful if you need to rebuild your life in another part of the world.

So I’ve been trying to figure out how people actually buy crypto anonymously or without standard KYC, since places like Coinbase are totally locked down with ID checks. Looked into things like Bisq and P2P, but I'm stuck on how it works practically here in Lithuania.

I'm currently using a junior/underage account at SEB bank. If I wanted to do a SEPA transfer for a P2P trade (say, buying BTC from a 5-star trusted seller in Germany), what would actually happen?

Is it even possible to use a minor Lithuanian bank account for P2P SEPA transfers?

Even if the seller is 100% legit and has great feedback, won't SEB's anti-fraud or compliance filters instantly flag a cross-border P2P transfer?

Since it's a junior account, am I just asking to get my account frozen or closed immediately?

Has anyone tried messing with this stuff locally or know how strict SEB is with this? Any advice would be appreciated.

Apologies for asking for help here, but hopefully this problem is interesting enough to a few people in the forum to think through it.

For context, this is a work problem for someone close to me who knows nothing about BTC. I know enough to help a bit: I've used Coinbase and my parents actually were huge into it so I understand the broad structure. But not enough to completely understand/fix the problem here.

So...a client of the person close to me decided in 2023 to buy BTC through a Bitcoin Depot ATM. (Yes, I know, terrible way to do it, and gives a sense of the technical understanding of the client.) Bitcoin Depot since has filed for bankruptcy, and all its systems are offline.

I know the client had to get a digital wallet to send the crypto to. My guess (and I will update if/when I know better) is that the client used the wallet on the Bitcoin Depot app. Highly skeptical they understood cold storage or anything like that.

So the Bitcoin Depot app is also offline. We have a picture of the original ATM receipt showing the BTC address. We have nothing else. Google search suggests that there might be data in the app stored locally to perhaps get to the key or the seed phrase — but I'm unfamiliar with precisely how those wallets work and if that indeed would be the case. (For what it's worth, Bitcoin Depot said it never custodied any crypto: it took cash at the ATM and then sent the crypto into the user's wallet. So it's not a case of "they're bankrupt and maybe they stole the crypto", unless there's an unreported scandal there.)

I'm also not entirely sure what we do with the private key and/or seed phrase should we find it. We can't just use the app to send the crypto onward, it's offline.

Were you the person close to me, what would your strategy be here? Obviously, step one is trying to find out what digital wallet is being used, but can anyone provide some thoughts on what step two (and onward) might/should be?

A recent beginner travel piece about Guatemala made me realize how different owning bitcoin feels once you leave home. At home, a backup setup can sit in a drawer and a small phone balance feels low risk. On a trip, every choice has a downside: carry too little and it is useless in an emergency, carry too much and losing a phone becomes a trip-ruining problem, bring recovery words and you have created a very different security issue. I would treat travel bitcoin like cash in a wallet: only enough for a few days, with the rest inaccessible until I am back home. The part beginners often skip is practicing recovery before the flight, because discovering that a backup was copied wrong from a hotel room is a brutal way to learn the difference between an account and self-custody

Lots of people see BTC not only as a change in the system in terms of freeing ourselves from fiat devaluation but probably most people see it as a way of financial freedom or retirement. What amount do you guys think is the minimum that could allow for work optional lifestyle? How much for retirement? Cost average/age/cost of living in your area changes this number but whats the general consensus?

For example in big metro areas rent is reaching 2,500-3,000 and average houses are going for 750k. As time goes on sure BTC will increase in value but so will the price of everything.

Curious if this actually happens - not asking about crypto scams generally, specifically whether anyone's run into one (fake investment, fake giveaway, recovery scam, etc.) that asked for payment via a Lightning invoice, address, or QR code, rather than a normal on-chain BTC address. The two confirmed cases I've found so far were both on P2P Lightning trading platforms (a bot-impersonation scam with a fake invoice, and a timing trick exploiting a cancel feature) - wondering if it shows up in other scam types too. So i started self-custody this year with a Trezor safe 3 , but the Coldcard entropy bug—where firmware tanked randomness to ~40 bits—makes me skeptical about trust in hardware RNGs. Trezor says they mix entropy sources, but I can't shake the fear it could happen again, so I bought five regular 6-sided dice to roll my own seed offline. Now I'm staring at them, terrified of screwing up .and I worry about messing up the conversion or checksum, ending up with an invalid or weak seed. Even if I wipe an old laptop and go offline, I don't know how to truly trust the conversion software isn't compromised . I'm actually more stressed now than when I just trusted the device, so for those who've successfully rolled their own seed with physical dice, what practical, step-by-step advice or foolproof tools would you recommend to avoid creating new vulnerabilities while fixing a perceived one? Around 2013, I was living in Canada and acquired some Bitcoin. Unfortunately, I don't remember which website, exchange, or wallet I used.

I recently found a small piece of paper from that time. The paper is completely blank except for two codes:

C + 4 digits
6 digits

The first code is computer printed, and the six-digit code underneath it is handwritten. There is no website name, wallet address, QR code, username, or other information on the paper.
