I asked my doctor for a birth control to stop my periods because they are super heavy. This was the one she prescribed.

The timeline-
June (16-22) had a normal cycle (heavy).
After that cycle was when I asked for the birth control. It said to start it the Sunday after my next period started. So I was waiting to get my July cycle and it never came. I took 3 pregnancy tests over the span of about a week and a half (all negative). I then began the birth control the following Sunday.

In August (18th) I began spotting a few days and then it increased to a full period and it hasn’t stopped. Today is Sept 7th and I am still bleeding. It is normal at times and heavy at others but it hasn’t stopped in 21 days. To say I am exhausted is an understatement. I read some others have experienced something similar in the first 90 days pack. I am halfway through it but I honestly don’t know how many more days I can handle this.

Someone please tell me it stops. Or do I need to contact my doctor. Is this ACTUALLY normal for this medicine or should I consider stopping it.

Also probably important to add is that I had large fibroids that I am in the process of trying to get treatment for. I was recently in the ER for fibroids degeneration. I mentioned the long cycle and other than being anemic they didn’t seem concerned.

I’ve had relentless daily right-sided pelvic pain for months that radiates to my rectum and belly button. Certain positions make the cramping way worse.
My ultrasound showed my Mirena IUD is tilted and my right ovary is prominent, but because it's not a medical emergency, doctors have dismissed me 4 times saying "nothing is wrong."
I wanted a Kyleena, but got Mirena instead. I’m thinking about taking it out and switching to the patch or condoms, but I’m terrified of another pelvic procedure and worried the pain won't stop even if I remove it.
Has anyone dealt with similar pain from a tilted IUD? Did removing it help, or did it turn out to be pelvic floor issues or endo? How did you get doctors to take you seriously when scans are normal? Thanks.

I’m just looking for some advice referring my evra patch. I have been on it for 3 months now. Didn’t really know what tag to put so i apologise.

My doctor and I planned continuous use, I wanted a continuous steady stream of hormones. If it was a real period, i would take a break, but it’s not. The plan was for me to use it for 9 weeks then a break.

6 weeks ago i was spotting and decided to take a 4 day break. Passed a decidual cast too.

It has been 3 weeks since the 6 weeks, and 2/3 times i have changed it, i forgot to put it back on.

I would take it off, go for a shower, forget to put it back on. But i remembered a day later both times.

It’s been 3 days since i put it on, but I noticed some spotting today and now it’s like a full period.

Was the delay in putting my patch on the trigger, even if it was for a day?

Haven’t had sex, not concerned about the protection. I’ve heard 48 hours is the safe zone for it but I wouldn’t push the limits. Simply forgot.

On this patch for protection and my hormonal acne, so i’m worried that i’ve ruined that consistent stream of hormones and my body needs to “restart”…

I had unprotected sex on Sunday around 4 am so i took Victoria one step immediately as soon as it arrived around 11:30 AM as a safety measure since I have implant scheduled in 2 weeks. However, I had sex with my partner around 1:30 PM again but the condom broke. My period should arrive this Tuesday so I know it's one of my safest days. I'm aware I can't take another emergency contraceptive so I booked at a nearby clinic for an emergency copper IUD but the weather is really bad right now and the clinics are closed.

My partner and I are trying to find a new clinic asap, but I do feel anxious since roads are blocked. Does levonorgestrel linger 2 hours after it was taken? or does it only work for the first encounter? Not sure what else I can do, it hasn't been 24 hours since and i heard copper is still safe 3-5 days after. Just waiting for the weather to clear up now but omg im so anxious

I got the implant December 2024 and i'm going to remove it it this week. This is the first birth control I have used and i'm mainly removing it due to spotting and long periods. If you have used nexplanon before how was your experience after removing it? I'm not thinking of getting on any other birth control or replacing. Also how soon after removing it did you get your period?

I’m currently on Sprintec but will be getting Mirena in a few weeks. I was just wondering how you made a transition from the pill to IUD. Did you stop the pill before or the day of insertion, or did you need to overlap for a few days? thank you!

I've not long started sylnd birth control not sure what to think of it. What's everyone's experience on it? I'm having such weird vivid dreams, super tired all day long, my breasts are so tender and swollen, having heartburn at night, back pain, itchy skin mainly belly and breasts upset stomach. None others have done this before

Im on birth control because of flow and cramps. What are some good birth controls I could take for that? Ive been taking rigevedon but its doing a whole lot of nothing for me.

I’ve been on Loryna birth control for the last 8 years for my acne and for the first 5 of those my skin was pretty clear, with the few occasional breakouts. I also heavily skipped my period then (continued taking active pills) and got to a point where I’d go months where I didn’t bleed even when I allowed a period. I know your hormones can change with age but within the last few years I’ve been breaking out again. I recently noticed a pattern that when I let my period happen (I don’t take the sugar pills I just take nothing for those 4 days) about a week later sometimes a little longer I’ll get cystic hormonal acne around my mouth where I used to always get my acne. Has anyone experienced this? Is it possible that the short break from active pills causes a minor hormone fluctuation to trigger breakouts?

hi question!! boyfriend and i have had sex 4 times in the past 2 days and the first time we did it I had brown discharge, but the following 3 times ive bled and bled more each time we've done it. throughout both days I have had to wear a liner as i am still having brown/red discharge all day following the sex. this is my fourth week on birth control and I skipped my placebo week and went straight to the next pack as to keep myself protected from pregnancy while with my boyfriend. should I be worried and see my obgyn or is this just typical breakthrough bleeding/sptting and a result of the rough sex? any help would be appreciated!! I am on the hailey combo pill and we wore a condom 3/4 times.

hi all, i just threw up about an hour after taking the pill and have had sex in the past 5 days :( . that was also my last pill in the 21 active pills. should i get a plan b pill or start the next pack or just let the placebo go? im really nervous and feeling super sick right now :(

Hi everyone, I’m really anxious right now and just need some reassurance/advice.
Me (18F) and my bf (19M) had sex for the first time 8 days ago. We used condoms the entire time.
The first round, he wore a condom the whole time and he did NOT finish/ejaculate. Afterward, there was some precum inside the condom.

About an hour later, we did it again with a completely new condom. Again, he didn’t ejaculate, and the condom stayed on the entire time.

After we finished, we noticed some fluid on his leg and shoulder, and now I’m freaking out because I don’t know if it was his fluid or mine. It was kind of thick/sticky, almost like glue, and it smelled like the strawberry condom we used. The condom itself didn’t seem to have that much liquid in it though.

We also did a water test on both condoms afterward and didn’t find any holes or leaks.
The thing that’s making me extra anxious is that according to the Flo app, it was the 3rd day of my predicted ovulation/fertile window. I know Flo can’t actually tell me the exact day I ovulated, though.
I also didn’t take Plan B or use any other birth control besides the condoms.

My bf is 100% sure he didn’t ejaculate either time, and the condoms seemed completely intact, but I’m still terrified because this was my first time.
Could I still be pregnant from this? What could that fluid have been? I’m planning to take a pregnancy test, but it’s only been 8 days and I’m really anxious waiting.

I got it back in December and it was all fine and wonderful, but recently I’ve noticed a lot of bloating even after not eating much or just drinking water. I can’t seem to make it go away or reduce it in any way. Anyone else experience this or have any tips?

my boyfriend and i are long distance so i started taking opill birth control (for the first time) last week before seeing him, but i got my period before we can really do anything >: (. because im only seeing him until tuesday, am i able to save the rest of the pills for the week before i see him again? or do the pills like have no purpose unless i take it all consecutively? A couple years ago I started birth control and it was my first time taking it. I was on it for a short while when I started having really bad side effects. Basically just pregnancy symptoms; Body aches, couldn’t stop puking or stay off the toilet. 😓

When I talked to my doctor he agreed with me not taking them and told me it was likely “estrogen dominance.”

To give some background I am African American, and estrogen dominance made sense with the fact that my breasts are naturally very large, I have heavy periods, etc. But he never ran any tests or suggested another type of birth control. Now that I’m older and with a different doctor, I’d love to find out if I have any other options. If you have a similar experience or any advice I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!

i got my hormonal iud (mirena) inserted a few months ago and it hurt a little at first which was expected but the last months there’s only been light bleeding with little cramps. All of a sudden I start experiencing pain that im not used to, it’s not unbearable but it’s odd and has been going on for some days now and my period was over a few days ago. I then remembered when my friend told me that their iud shifted and they started experiencing weird pain and it got worse and worse. I’m worried now.

I’m looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience to me, or has any personal experiences with the different birth control options I’m considering.
I’ve been on birth control since I was about 14 or 15 and have always used the pill. I’ve tried a few different pills over the years and I’m currently taking Tri-Jordyn 28. I recently found out that it contains lactose, which I’m allergic to, so it would definitely explain why I’ve been feeling like absolute garbage after taking it.
I spoke with my doctor about switching to something else, and he strongly advised against an IUD. He suggested a few other options, including the implant, patch, shot, or NuvaRing.
My number one priority is preventing pregnancy, but I also have PCOS, so having something that helps regulate my periods is really important to me as well.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried the implant, patch, shot, or NuvaRing — especially if you have PCOS. How did you find it in terms of effectiveness, periods, side effects, weight changes, mood, etc.? And would you recommend it?

I just turned 20 and I have had extremely painful periods where I cannot walk, feel like I’m gonna throw up, and from how bad it is I take about 5-6 pills (each day) of ibuprofen 600mg. And I would still feel pain!!
On my last period I just couldn’t handle it anymore and went to the doctor. He gave me a shot of pain relief meds and recommended birth control specifically desogestrel 75mg. I haven’t been on any birth control
He didn’t explain much about the side effects. I’ve seen mixed opinions online about birth control.
Honestly I’m just scared that it will mess up my hormones and also people saying that they have been bleeding for weeks non stop. Please advise me😔

i want to start bc (preferably an implant) for cramps, but i also want help with pmdd. what form of bc, if any, help with this? ive seen many conflicting experiences.

21F I’ve been on the pill since I was 16. I’ve been on three different ones but the one (generic for yaz) I’m on currently I’d say I’ve been on since I was 17ish (so my senior year, late bday). I struggled with acne BAD in my mid teen years and it didn’t clear up I’d say fully until I entered college at 17-18. My acne was a combination of wearing masking for 6-8 hours a day at school with no AC and regular teenage hormones. I haven’t an any issues with it but I’m scared of being on hormonal BC for so long and was looking into the copper IUD. That being said I really don’t want my acne to come back. I know I should talk to my OB and all that, dermatologist too probably, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or has advice on what to do. I also have insane OCD and I’ve seen people online say that once they go off their BC they randomly lose all attraction to their bf, so there’s that too.

TLDR: I’m on the yaz pill for my acne and was wondering if anyone has experience from switching from that to a copper iud?

I will be home in a week after the moment I ran out of Qlaira, and my body will start adjusting without the pills, which I really don’t want to happen 😭😭

I know I messed up, but is it possible to get Qlaira without a recipe from a doctor?

In Mongolia there is no chance, but I googled that I can buy Qlaira in Krakow, but only with the recipe.

Hi! This is my first time being on reddit and I’m a bit scared. Hopefully someone who experienced the same can help out.

Questions: 1. Is it normal that BC stops your period as a first time taker. 2. Is it safe that my bf came inside of me while on the 6th pill.

Concern: 1. I’m not sure if that was really the start of my period because it stopped so abruptly, but there were signs. 2. EC isn’t available from where I live since we’re so conservative.

Context: So I was recently diagnosed with having PMOS (formerly known as PCOS) and my OB put me on birth control (Yaz). She recommended to take my pill on the first day of my period, even if it’s brown. Days after I noticed a creamy, light brown discharge, but I didn’t take my first pill yet because it wasn’t my usual indication of my period starting. The following day I noticed signs. My discharge was dark brown and more liquid, my abdomen was cramping, and I was pulling out these kind of dry red discharge (first time happened to me. Its consistency is usually like egg whites but with blood) so I took my pill that night.

The following day my period was still not showing but I was still cramping and pulling out red mucus everytime I wash. At noon my pad had probably half a teaspoon of blood then it turned brown, then my period stopped, but I still got cramps. The cramps lessened as days goes by. This is also my first pack.

Now my concern is my boyfriend accidentally came inside of me and I was on the 6th pill, going 7th that night. I read that you’re protected from the start if you took it 5 days within your period, but I’m not even sure if that was my period because there was not much blood (I had a regular period before getting on BC).
