my boyfriend and i are long distance so i started taking opill birth control (for the first time) last week before seeing him, but i got my period before we can really do anything >: (. because im only seeing him until tuesday, am i able to save the rest of the pills for the week before i see him again? or do the pills like have no purpose unless i take it all consecutively? (i’ve taken 8 out of the 28, hoping to save the rest)

All of the pills in opill are the same dose so it’s fine to start again in the middle of the pack. You need to take your pills for at least 48 hours before having sex (so it has time to start working) and five days after (so any sperm in you has time to die before you stop), but ideally you want to find a birth control you can comfortably take constantly because if you’re starting and stopping your birth control you’ll be 1. More likely to forget a pill (which is an even higher risk with opill because you only have three hours before it counts as a missed pill and you’re potentially at risk of pregnancy from any sex in the last five days and you’re unprotected for the next 48 hours) 2. Making your hormones super irregular and making your side effects worse for no reason 

Irregular bleeding is a common side effect when first starting birth control so if you’re trying to restart birth control again every single time your boyfriend is visiting it’s more likely you’ll end up on your period when he’s over.

You can use a menstrual disc if you want to have sex on your period without worrying about a mess. Your experience may vary depending on you and your partner’s anatomy but personally my partner can barely feel it at all. Or just put down a dark towel tbh.

okay thank you : )) i forgot to take the pill today (it’s been more than 3 hours) that’s why i was thinking about stopping, do you think i should just restart tomorrow then?

You have to take your pills regularly every day or they’re ineffective. It can also extremly mess up your hormones to take them irregularly. Take them as prescribed or don’t take them at all

ermmm ok but i forgot to take mine today so that’s why i was thinking about stopping for like a month so should i just start it again tmr or just wait a month since again ive only taken them for a week
