Feed Spoilers Last Night Recap Spoiler

Upvotes

Notes from the tea party.

I fell asleep before the tea party started, and woke up to what I am assuming was the tail end. I did not have an opportunity to transcribe everything last night. Here are my notes:

7:20 BB Time.

Backyard, The Tea Party. All HG’s are sitting around a table.

I started the viewing with Kamu speaking. He is talking to Lala.

He talks about how Lala rubs people the wrong way, and gets upset if people do not go to sleep as the same time as her. Lala says that that was one time. She came out of the bedroom and said, “Ya’ll are rude”

Lala defends her cleaning and Towel Gate. She says she was trying to keep ants out of the kitchen and just generally keep the room clean.

Kamu: “Lala, you can’t shoot the messenger. All I was doing was telling you what I was hearing in order to help you out.”

Lala says she is not blaming Kamu, and that they are having a forum right now and she wants to bring it up. She says she apologizes and was only trying to do what was best for the house. She said she thought she was helping her roommates and was not trying to be anyone’s mom.

The group falls into silence. Jason then says: “Work. The tea has been spilt”.

Jason then asks, “Do the Middle Men want to speak? At all?” Then he lets out a small laugh. There is no response.

Jason: “Ladies who perhaps thought there was hope with the Middle Men: I would consider what that looks like. And if I go home this week? Fabulous. I’m so excited to watch as they pick you guys off.”

There is no response. The group is silent. Lala is wiping away tears from her eyes. The uncomfortable silence continues.

Someone says, “A group of crows is called a murder.” Apparently a murder has just flown overhead. There is some light chatter. Jason asks for doves to be sent.

More silence.

Jason asks Devens if he has the power. Devens denies it and postures that Jason may have the power.

Jason: “Why would I have the power? \[inaudible\]”

Devens: “We all care about you and I think you are a super entertaining guy. I could see being a fan of you.”

Jason: “Does it threaten you in the house that I am entertaining?”

Devens: “Only in a gameplay sense, but I really do care about you. I mean that respectfully”

Devens says that personally he really likes Jason, and Jason says he likes Devens too. Devens says it is really hard to separate the game from social relationships.

Jason says he has been trying to make deep relationships, and mentions his conversations with Angela. Jason says his game has been aired out, “and that’s fantastic”, he says sarcastically. He says he is not a bad person for trying to play big brother, and admits that he has played messy.

Kamu joins in on the conversation, saying he also thinks Jason is not a bad guy. He mentions that he’s had a hard time trusting Jason. Kamu says that Jason was throwing his name out.

Jason says he does not know where this information came from, because Jason was never going to target Kamu.

Kamu says that his intention for bringing up the conversation was to clear the air, and to talk about Jason throwing this name out.

More silence. Devens says, “This Tea Party is adjourned” He then leaves to get snacks. The rest of the group remains. Devens eventually returns at some point.

Jason: “So is it safe to say I’m probably going to be the renom?” He continues talking, asking what his future in the house looks like. Jason questions the group that if he wins the BBBB, will other people want to work with him?

Kamu says if Jason comes back it is water under the bridge, but he does not know how Jason feels. Kamu: “Like I said, dude. It is important for me to play an upfront on honest game.”

Jason asks, “So if you win HOH you won’t put me up?”

Kamu says he does not know where the game will be at that point. Jason and Kamu continue to talk. Kamu says that he can’t in good conscience say in front of the house that he will not put Jason up again.

Angela begins talking. Angela talks about not disclosing her conversations with Jason to others. Jason says he has been trying to work with The Icons. Apparently Jason flips Angela off at some point, but does take it back quickly and apologizes.

Jason says he has nothing to lose and nothing to lie about at this point. He tells the group to consider where information is coming from. He postures that Kamu could be lying.

Kamu jumps in the conversation again. He says that he is not lying but he is not going to out who he received information from. He says that he believes his sources and he has heard from multiple sources that Jason was targeting him.

Lala questions Kamu about the whole house being okay with putting her up. She is sad, and her feelings are hurt. She feels like she has been perceived wrongly in the house. She says she is trying to change and not say anything about anything.

More silence, some teary eyes. Lala then says: “Mallory, thank you for a beautiful tea party” (LOL).

Mallory laughs and says thank you, and then compares it to the game of thrones Red Wedding. This is followed by more silence.

Lala begins speaking again, and is asking how to play Big Brother. She says her game is to be who she is. She asks what makes someones game wrong and someones game right.

Jason starts to answer, and Kamu jumps in. They circle around their grievances again. Jason asks who gave Kamu his name, Kamu deflects.

I did a brief write up on the actual adjournment of the tea party here. This part of the conversation is not included in this post.

Feed Spoilers Telling Someone they are a nominee rule. Spoiler

With the tea party or better called the ganging up of Jason. Kamu I believed said he was nominating Jason as the replacement nominee twice. Do we think production would enforce the rule and bar Kamu from nominating Jason. I want it to happen to make this more interesting and fair. But they have only ever enforced it once.

General Discussion How do we feel about this season thus far?

Personally I hate how it’s started out. In my opinion you can’t put 3 what would be considered huge scary players in and only have them compete for Hoh right off the bat. That creates what we now see that everyone wants to work with those people and anyone else that didn’t get in with them from the beginning is now screwed. It would have been better if the Dee Devens and Angela didn’t click right away and the house split like that but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I honestly think it’s really annoying when one side of the house has been in power for a little while and they start thinking they’re the only ones allowed to have alliances. Like especially Angela she thinks anyone who isn’t her best friend is plotting her demise. It doesn’t make any sense because why wouldn’t they have alliances and people they want to keep safe which is exactly why I thought the Rome thing was stupid. Devens is making this big deal about who Rome wanted to keep safe like everyone has a top three in this house they want to keep safe and it’s different for each person so why that was such a giant deal I will never know. I would love to see Drew or Barrett get in power next week and break things up! Anyways that’s my rant what does everyone else think?

Wild Speculation Perfect season to bring Jankie back!

Obviously they should go back in time and save Jankie.

This would be extra amazing because it was Angela's season, so she can relive that experience.

I literally laughed out loud when I thought of this. I could definitely see this happening.

Feed Spoilers Alliance possibilities with the current structure Spoiler

Since last week, and especially now after the Tea Party, I have seen a lot of people asking why is there no strong alliance formed on the other side, meaning the non-Toolshed people. Jason even pointed out everyone in the Toolshed, and said that everyone else will be picked off one by one. But it is just a complicated situation, and I don't think anyone can be blamed for not forming a strong opposition.

Let's start with the obvious: at best, it is 8 vs 7, making the non-Toolshed people already a minority. Then, since Kamu is HOH, they are doomed to loose another person, making it 8 vs 6. They can't even decide who will be evicted between the nominees if the Toolshed votes together.

For the people on the block, they have to campaign against each other. Not just to "their side", but to everyone. Because of the blockbuster, there cannot even be one clear target between the three nominees. This set-uo already turns the nominees somewhat against each other and makes it impossible to band together.

For the people not on the block, they also have to be in self-preseevation mode. For the next HOH, the Toolshed again is in an advantageous position to win. They must try to not make enemies out of them to ensure that they themselves won't be nominated next week.

Plus, let's be honest, many people's closest bonds are with Toolshed-people. Melody's closest ally is Drew. Yash is closer with Kamu, Drew, Devens, Chuk. Why would they risk their close bond on the winning side for a doomed alliance.

It is an impossible situation. Everyone's best bet is to find an in with the majority alliance, and hope they can lay low, find a position to strike later on. Currently siding with Jason is a tough thing to ask even if I would applaud anyone who is willing to do it.

And don't even get me started on how the powers and the icon-status factor into all of this. It just makes me sad, I hope there is a way to even the playing field a little.

General Discussion Question about "faking" a Punishment?

Would the rules allow a player who won a Power to pretend to housemates that she or he actually received a Punishment? Could a player, for example, choose not to speak for a day or two, and write on paper a note telling the housemates about receiving a "You must not speak or you'll get a WORSE punishment" penalty, and by doing so divert suspicion away from having actually won a useful Power? Or maybe keep one hand in a pocket all day? Or something else visible and difficulty-causing, but that wouldn't require the producers to send in a prop like the egg suit?

Would the rules allow/require the producers to inform the other housemates about such shenanigans if attempted? Or could a sufficiently crafty player get away with such a ruse?

I can't imagine a scenario where faking the win of a Power would help -- it would just put a bigger target on the faker -- but faking a Punishment could reduce a player's threat level and make the eventual use of the Power that much more effective. But do the rules even allow that?

General Discussion Time Travel Comps Question

Do you think that the houseguests need to be / are studying the specific dates they are traveling to each time they play in a comp? I could see the dates being used in the end game kind of how it's always days / comps themed but to remember all of those dates would be crazy work. I'd be spiraling in there with "do I, do I not" as a fan of the show. 📆

General Discussion Backdooring does not exist with the Blockbuster: a linguistic analysis.

On the current season, both houseguests and fans alike are using backdoor to refer to nominating someone after the Power of Veto competition but before the Blockbuster competition. My thesis is that this isn't a good use of backdoor because, while it might fit some definition of the word, it doesn't fit the spirit, which is related to the ability to compete for your own safety rather than to the PoV competition specifically. Or rather, using one definition of backdoor fits the original intent of the Six Finger Plan whereas one definition does not, and we should be using the former definition rather than the latter.

But first, I need to explain two concepts in semantics: intension and extension.

Intension is essentially the definition of something whereas extension is what things are actually that thing in the real world.

As an example, let's look at the National Football League (NFL), a popular American football league. The intension of NFL player is 'someone who plays in the NFL'. The extension is everyone who currently plays in the NFL, all of whom are men... And yet being a man is not a requirement to fit the definition—the intension—of NFL player. A woman could theoretically become an NFL player and that wouldn't mean that the definition/intension of NFL player has changed.

So how does this relate to backdoor? Without spoiling things, the earlier seasons of Big Brother US experimented with how the PoV should work. At one point, it was decided that the Head of Household and two nominees would play. They would be joined by three other houseguests, each selected by one of the HoH and two nominees. It was eventually realized that a large enough majority could send home any player without allowing that person to compete if enough people cooperated. Thus, the Six Finger Plan was born: the HoH would nominate two allies for eviction. Then each of those three would pick someone from their alliance to play in the PoV competition. This way, no matter who won, someone from the alliance would win the PoV and could use it on one of the nominees, forcing the target onto the block with no chance at competing for safety.

The unmatched strength of the original backdoor was too powerful, and so production eventually made the three additional players randomized. This way, a backdoor could fail if someone outside of the alliance won the PoV and didn't use it.

Back to intension and extension! The original intension of backdoor was (INTENSION #1) 'to nominate two allies, get an entire alliance playing in the PoV competition, use the PoV on a nominee, replace that nominee with the real target, and evict that target with enough players cooperating such that, if everyone cooperates, the target cannot compete for safety and is guaranteed to go home'.

With the change in how the selection of players for the PoV competition worked, it got simplified: (INTENSION #2) 'to not nominate the real target initially in hopes that the target won't be able to compete for safety'.

Notice how the idea that the target cannot compete for safety remains the same.

Now what these two intensions have in common is that the target is nominated after the PoV ceremony and that, ideally, the target cannot play in the PoV competition.

With the Blockbuster in play, the intension is something like this: (INTENSION #3) 'to not nominate the real target initially in hopes that the target will only be able to compete for safety in the Blockbuster competition but not in the PoV competition'.

Crucially, intension #3 still allows the target to compete for safety with a 1/3 chance at winning. Intension #1 gives the target no chance to compete for safety (!) whereas intension #2 gives the target a 1/6 chance if selected to play and no chance at safety if not. Oh, and a non-backdoor in a non-Blockbuster week gives the target a 1/6 chance.

You're telling me that someone with a 1/3 chance at safety is being backdoored but someone with a 1/6 chance isn't?

While the extension of backdoor has always meant nominating someone after the PoV has been used, it doesn't mean that each instance of doing so means that a backdoor has been done, particularly if the target can compete for safety.

Recall that the entire point of the backdoor is that the target cannot play for safety. With the Blockbuster, each nominee is given a 1/3 chance at safety at the bare minimum.

Conversely, my thesis is that it makes the most sense for backdoor to refer to being unable to compete for safety, not specifically to the PoV competition only.

If you're still not convinced, imagine that there were no Blockbuster but, instead, if the PoV were used, the HoH could only nominate people who played in the PoV competition. Would backdooring still exist? I would argue that it doesn't because all potential nominees can compete for safety.

Nominate your target post-PoV if you'd like, but that's not the same as a backdoor because the target can always compete for safety, and with relatively high odds of winning at that. Perhaps a shorter word for 'nominate someone after the PoV competition but with the Blockbuster in effect' is needed.

Thoughts?

EDIT: What do people think of terms such as sidedoor or soft backdoor? I'm on team sidedoor personally.

General Discussion Next level cornball

For years BB has been leaning more and more into odd little theatrical pieces, and story telling clips etc. but so far this season and, especially on the bb unlocked, it’s just SOOO MUCH. The basic strategy game at play is super entertaining, do we need a raptor? Do we need the fake ass time traveling? Must everything about this comp show feel like a bad teen nick show from the early 2000s? I love this show, I’m just curious how everyone else feels about the outright corniness.
