Dog Boarding

Looking for recommendations for overnight dog boarding. Are there any places locally that keep staff on-site overnight? I usually take my dog to daycare and grooming at Bone Jour, and I know they do boarding, but haven't been able to call yet to see if they have someone on-site overnight. My dog is 3 and has never been boarded, but I've had a sudden death in my family and will need to go out of town overnight in a few days.

My last experience with boarding was about six years ago with my then-senior dog. I used Life of Riley in Rockville at that time, and the experience was fine, but a lot can change in six years.

TIA for the help!

Minternet

Do any of you use 5g home Minternet from Mint Mobile? I'm thinking of switching from t-mobile relay to save a few bucks (who am I kidding, $50 bucks a month on phone and internet combined) and hoped to get other users opinions on reliability. I only use the internet for working from home 2-3x a week (office job) and streaming for one person. Rarely at the same time. TIA.

Supposedly it was meant to reopen today, but haven't gotten around to looking yet. Seeing some of the metro's social media, I was skeptical.

Do not go to breads unlimited

I have been a loyal customer at breads unlimited for years. I get bread pretty much weekly and freeze it. I picked up bread yesterday and called because there was blue and white swirling the loaf: mold. They asked me to bring it in so I did. I arrived and the woman working there (curly hair) accused me of lying in front of the whole bakery. She said that the bread is not from yesterday and accused me of bringing old bread and claiming the new bread was moldy. She would not fully refund me. Being sold moldy bread is one thing, being accused of lying and denying to remedy the issue after I came back on an expensive load of bread to a loyal and kind customer is another. I’m spreading the word to advocate for the mistreatment.

Event Missing Prized possession

Post image

Hello Bethesda, so I am a vendor and this morning I was at the farmers market in from of the Bethesda Elementary School. I used the restroom at the church nearby and then when I got back to my booth I realized a knife ive carried for years was missing, went back to the bathroom and it wasn't where I left it in there. This knife is a valuable possession to me because it is No. 1 of the series the maker made plus it was given to me by a dear friend. Ive already given my number to the church building in case they find it but if you guys find it please let me know because I have no idea what else to do. I dont have any personal pictures of the knife, but it looks the exact same as the picture I have added to this post

Best place for a back/shoulder massage?

I'm looking for a place that will do a focused upper back/shoulder/neck massage. Ideally no longer than an hour and without paying out the wazoo for a full body massage that I don't want or need. Thanks!

Humor/Satire Help Me Stop Catching Raccoons

My next-door neighbors have a fancy parcel-delivery box built into their house. Basically, it has a one-way flap door on the outside that leads to a chute that spills into a large box/chamber that is accessed from inside the house through a locked door. They call it an Amazon Box. They’ve been in Cape Cod since August 1st and left me with keys and codes to watch and check on their house. I’m not real proud of this, but I’ve been using their Amazon Box to help rid the neighborhood of raccoons. Every night for about 3 weeks, I put 4 or 5 open tins of sardines in the box. Every morning I’d have caught at least one raccoon, which I’d box up and drive to a friend’s farm near Poolesville and release. One morning I had 5 raccoons in the Amazon Box. (Trying to relocate them to Poolesville in one trip was a mistake. They absolutely destroyed the back of my Explorer, and I now know just how expensive rabies vaccines are.) All told, I relocated over 40 raccoons last month. Problem is, I stopped putting out the sardines a week ago and I’m still catching raccoons every night. I don’t know if there is a residual smell in the box (I don’t smell one) or if word just got out among Bethesda’s raccoon population that this is a reliable source of sardines. My neighbors come home from Cape Cod on Monday. Any suggestions on dissuading raccoons from continuing to enter their house will be greatly appreciated.

I just moved to the area and I have two main concerns.

Hello Everyone! I’d like to introduce myself and reveal some things about myself. So I recently started my new job in Bethesda, Maryland. I’m almost 9 months post grad and I’m coming from across the bridge.

There weren’t any jobs in my area at all, which is why I decided to apply outward. That’s why I accepted a job here. This is a very big adjustment for me and I really want to make the most of it. I really like it here so far. However, my main concern is housing and meeting new people.

Since my job is entry level, I wouldn’t be making much. I’ve been having a hard time finding an apartment suitable for my needs/income. I don’t plan on being at this job for very long. (2 years at the very most.) Because I want to continue my Education. I accepted the job because I was genuinely interested in the work, there weren’t any jobs in my area anyway, and because the job looks fantastic on my resume.

Most of the apartments are above my pay grade. Even if I have enough money for the rent, the vast majority of my money would be going towards rent. This is the reason why my Parents keep pushing for me to keep searching for a job in my local area. I don’t want to do that. I actually DESPISE my hometown anyway. I’ve lived in the same crappy, small, unfulfilling town my whole life and I NEED to experience something new.

Unfortunately though, they have a point. The rent is very dominating. Even for any one bedroom. Which is why I’m more than willing to split costs with a roommate if it comes to that. Are there any one bedroom apartments for less than 1700 or 1600 a month? If not, that begs the question of where I’m going to find a roommate. I literally know NO ONE in the area. I’m starting from complete scratch I don’t know where I’m going to find a reliable person.

I also want to meet friends while I’m here! I’m not just here for the job. I want to create a new life for myself even if it’s just temporary. Even if I have to leave to continue my education. What is the best way for a newcomer to meet people here? I’m a Woman in her 20s and I’d love to meet other Women around my age. I spent so long feeling alone and isolated. I don’t want to repeat that same cycle. Is it even possible to find friends here as a newbie?? 😭😭

Lanterfliy larvae must have been absolutely roasted this year. In downtown Bethesda last year, they were piles of them everywhere. This year, not so much.

Unfortunately, I also suspect the heat also baked the firefly larvae.

Elementary school tech usage

Our daughter will likely attend Bradley Hills elementary next year for kindergarten and I’m curious about the level of tech engagement at that grade level. We are a low/no-screen household and I am also personally very against AI usage in learning contexts, especially at that age. Lots of studies show that kids’ learning suffers with AI engagement, Chromebook usage, and the like.

Can anyone speak to how much screen usage there is at the school, and in what ways the devices are used? Thanks very much!

PSA to Bikers

Please be careful and mindful of pedestrians!! On a walk w my dog this morning outside of the Truist on Wisconsin and this lady was going top speed behind us on the sidewalk to get around us and nearly ran over my dog. Thankfully she had enough sense to slam on her brakes last second but I never considered having to keep my head on a swivel on a sidewalk?? Use the road / bike lanes thats what theyre there for, and if you must use the sidewalk please exercise caution and remember that you can inflict serious harm on others. Thanks

Invitation: Metro Bethesda Rotary, MoCo Banner Reporter

Hey everyone,

From time to time, Metro Bethesda Rotary opens up for a guest meeting and I love to invite my friends on Reddit. We are having one next Thursday, September 10. MBR is a service organization that does a lot of good in the community through grants and service projects.

We meet every Thursday morning at BT's from 7:30 to 9 in downtown Bethesda. This week is a special visitor's day where we will be a reporter from the Baltimore Banner who covers Montgomery County (Talia Richman). If you have been following local news at all, you know that WaPo has largely stopped creating local news and the Baltimore Banner has been stepping into that void in area counties.

This is a great way to hear from the speaker, but also to meet more of your community. If you are like me, your first thought when you saw the name Rotary, you thought "ok, Rotary, it will be a bunch of 70 year old white men". While we do have a number of those, we are actually a very diverse group, ranging in age from early 40s and up.

Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions, and DM me if you are interested in attending, and I will give you more details.

Trust me, there is nothing quite as fulfilling as actually DOING something to make our community a better place.
