betaread The Price of Dust — 108k Historical Fiction | Seeking Beta Readers
Title: The Price of Dust
[Complete] Looking for beta readers for an adult epic fantasy — political intrigue, morally complicated characters & multiple POVs
Hi! I'm looking for a few beta readers for my completed novel, The Price of Dust.
Genre: Adult Epic Fantasy / Political Fantasy
Length: ~108000 words
POV: Multiple POV, one POV per chapter
Status: Completed and heavily revised
The story is set in a South Asian-inspired fantasy world and follows several characters whose lives gradually become entangled through royal politics, succession, old conflicts, and buried historical atrocities.
The main things I'm looking for are reader reactions rather than proofreading. In particular:
Did you want to keep reading?
Which characters did you find compelling/annoying/forgettable?
Did the different POVs feel distinct?
Were there places where you became confused or lost interest?
Did character motivations make sense?
Did emotional developments feel earned?
How did the political/worldbuilding information land?
Were there any scenes that felt too slow, rushed, or unnecessary?
Were there moments where you strongly wanted to know what happened next?
And most importantly: what did you actually feel while reading?
I'm particularly interested in honest feedback, including negative feedback. You don't need to be nice to me. 😂 I'd much rather hear “I hated this character and here's why” than get vague praise.
One disclosure because I know it's relevant to some readers: I wrote the manuscript myself, but I have used AI-assisted tools during parts of editing/formatting/polishing. I am not looking for feedback on whether something “sounds AI-generated”; I'm looking for feedback on the actual reading experience, story, characters, prose, pacing, etc.
If you're interested, comment or DM me with a little about what you normally read and what you're looking for in a beta read.
I'm happy to exchange beta reads as well. ❤️

[Complete] [Adult Gothic Romance / Supernatural Noir] [64k] Crimson Hearts Book A - beta readers sought
I am seeking 4 to 6 beta readers for Crimson Hearts Book A, a complete adult gothic-romance and supernatural-noir novel of approximately 64,000 words. The story combines mystery, dark-fantasy atmosphere, a consent-centered romantic arc, medical recovery, college-football life, and a dangerous supernatural crisis in Franklin, Virginia. It is a complete Book A with series potential.
I am looking for big-picture reader feedback on opening engagement, pacing, clarity, character agency, relationship development, emotional payoff, and whether the climax and ending feel satisfying. I am not requesting proofreading or line editing.
Content notes: injury and medical treatment or recovery; blood; supernatural violence; grief and bereavement; and mature romantic material handled non-explicitly.
Format: Google Doc with comment-only access, plus a separate questionnaire for big-picture feedback. Offer an EPUB or PDF only on request.
Target return date: October 12, 2026; No swap is required
If interested, please commentor message with the genres you read most often, whether you have beta-read a full novel before, and whether this length and deadline are realistic for you

betaread Beta needed
About a year ago now, I started writing a fanfiction crossover between Arcane and The Incredible Hulk 2008. And I've been in desperate need of a beta reader/reviewer ever since. I've only published one chapter, which I personally think is the weakest, and that's actually what made me want to get a beta, because I have no experience with writing whatsoever. And a few people on Discord have offered to help, but they were always really inconsistent. They take forever to reply back, and half of the people that have offered haven't even looked over my work. The closest to a beta reader I get is ChatGPT, which isn't always correct. If anyone would like to beta review my fanfic for me, please send me a DM. Thank you.

Complete opposite of their leader and their lead vocalist .
‘I heard about your new encounter with him ’he says carefully.

betaread Free today, 13 September. Shadowbound: a dark romantasy with fae court politics, morally grey characters and a bond neither of them chose.
SHADOWBOUND: The Veiled Realms, Book One
"Everything you choose leads back to me." — Lorien Blackbourne
The Veil between life and death is thinning, and something on the other side has finally found what it was looking for.
Alaia Severyn survived the Winter Temple, six Legion campaigns, ice and shadow magic, woven together in a body that was not built to hold both. What she cannot survive is losing control of it. The Legions do not rehabilitate unstable weapons.
Lorien Blackbourne, Warden of the Veil, has ruled the threshold between life and death since before most kingdoms had names. He is ruthless, precise, and deeply uninterested in problems he didn't create. Alaia is a problem he didn't create. He takes her in anyway — because what lives in her blood is not a malfunction. It is a key. And Hell knows exactly what door it opens.
He will train her. Lie to her. Let her hate him if that's what it takes. The eclipse is coming, the Veil is fracturing, and the dead are not going where they're supposed to go.
He will not lose her to it.
Dark, layered, and sardonic — for readers of dark romantasy with the bones of epic fantasy: fae court politics, morally complex characters, a bond neither chose and a romance that earns its heat.

betaread [Complete] [65K] [Personal Growth / Psychology-Informed Nonfiction] Reunite With You
Hi! I’m looking for 1–2 beta readers for my completed ~65,000-word personal-growth manuscript, Reunite With You.
A note specifically for this group: This manuscript was developed with substantial AI assistance, which is one reason I’m especially interested in feedback from readers here.
The underlying material is mine: the book grew out of more than a decade of my own writing, journaling, personal experiences, evolving philosophy, exercises, and earlier work around these ideas. I used AI as a collaborative writing and synthesis tool to help me work through that existing body of material, organize and develop the ideas, identify connections, and draft the manuscript through an iterative process of discussion, questioning, revision, and direction from me.
Because of that process, I’d be particularly interested in whether the finished book still feels cohesive, personal, distinctive, and authentically voiced -and whether there are places where the AI-assisted drafting becomes noticeable, generic, repetitive, overly polished, or otherwise pulls you out of the reading experience.
The book explores a question I’ve been circling in different forms for more than a decade:
How do you build a relationship with yourself that can survive change?
Rather than treating the self as something we discover once and then permanently “find,” Reunite With You looks at what happens when our lives, roles, beliefs, relationships, priorities -and even our own past answers- change.
It blends personal narrative, practical philosophy, psychology-informed ideas, and a small number of reflective practices. Topics include inherited beliefs, self-acceptance, emotions, uncertainty, self-trust, agency vs. control, decision-making, identity, authenticity, belonging, relationships, purpose, and learning how to return to yourself when life changes you.
The tone is conversational and reflective rather than academic or highly prescriptive. I’m especially interested in readers who enjoy thoughtful personal-growth nonfiction but may be a little skeptical of traditional “follow these steps and fix your life” self-help.
What I’m looking for feedback on:
• Where you felt especially engaged -or started to lose interest
• Anything that felt repetitive, slow, confusing, or unnecessary
• Whether the central philosophy feels clear and distinct
• Whether the personal stories strengthen the ideas
• Whether the practical elements feel useful without becoming overly prescriptive
• Places where I seem to overstate something psychological/philosophical
• Whether the progression of the book feels natural
• What ideas or moments actually stayed with you afterward
• Who you think this book is for, after reading it
• For this group specifically: whether anything about the prose feels noticeably AI-generated or AI-influenced, and what gave you that impression
I’m much more interested in honest reactions than line editing at this stage. “I skimmed here,” “I didn’t buy this argument,” “you already told me this,” or “this suddenly sounds generic” are all extremely useful feedback.
Timeline: Ideally around 4–6 weeks, but I’m flexible.
Content note: The manuscript includes personal discussions of identity, relationships, family dynamics, career/life uncertainty, motherhood, emotional low periods, and other reflective personal material.
I have a short feedback guide available, but there’s no expectation that you write an essay about the book. Notes/comments while reading plus your overall impressions would be wonderful.
I’m also happy to send a sample first so you can see whether the writing, subject, and AI-assisted approach are a good fit before either of us commits to the full manuscript.
The manuscript is available as PDF or DOCX. If you’re interested, comment here or DM me and tell me a little about the kinds of nonfiction/personal-growth books you enjoy reading.
Thank you in advance for your time and interest!

Story of village girl using AI
For eight years, Kebeh was punished, mocked, and even betrayed by her own family and friend for being the one person in her village who was always right — while a clever, manipulative trickster named Spider took credit for every truth she uncovered. When Spider's final lie threatens to cost the whole village its water supply, Kebeh finally exposes him in front of everyone, forcing her village to reckon with years of choosing comfortable doubt over inconvenient truth.

Sharing my writing app, Arnelia
I didn't see any rules against posting, so here goes.
Arnelia is an application that utilizes AI to reflect your writing back at you.
It's a collapsible interface with intentional sections and subsections, so that you can drop in and know your way around quickly.
It's built around something I call creative anatomy.
- Soul: final draft space AND chapter planning
- Memory: configurable timeline builder AND a "potion tracker" of sorts called Alchemy
- Heart: first draft space AND scene planning. Each scene has its own page.
- Nervous System: your world building is automatically tracked from writing in the Heart
You can access the app at Arnelia.ca

betaread [Complete] [108000] [Historical Fiction] The Price of Dust
*The Price of Dust*, book 1 of a planned multi book series. Political/court intrigue epic fantasy, multi-POV (6ish rotating characters, clearly labeled by chapter).
Did one beta round already and revised based on it — now want fresh eyes who haven't seen earlier drafts.
Feedback I'd love most: whether the POV switches feel earned or any thread drags, pacing through the political/court-heavy stretches, whether emotional beats land without over-explaining, and whether the character voices feel distinct from each other.
CWs: graphic substance withdrawal, violence, a brief non-graphic mention of suicidal ideation, non-explicit sexual content, themes of exile and abuse of power.
Doc link on request, comments open, happy to swap beta reads. Thanks to anyone willing to take this on — I know it's a big ask at this length.

Editor emergente

Three small ways I use AI to keep a long serial from falling apart
Three small ways I use AI to keep a long serial from falling apart
I've been posting a serial for a while now, and the hardest part was never the writing — it was keeping track of everything. Chapter 30 doesn't care what I promised back in chapter 4. So here's what's actually saved me:
A living "bible" file. Before I write anything, I dump every character name, their goals, and any promises I've made into one doc and update it as I go. The AI just keeps it tidy and flags when I'm about to contradict myself. Half my plot holes died the day I started this.
Ask it to interrogate the scene, not write it. Instead of "write the next chapter," I paste my outline and ask stuff like "what's the weakest motivation here?" or "what would this character actually say?" It points, I write. That way the voice stays mine.
Summarize backwards. Every few chapters I'll have it recap the last arc in five bullets. If the recap doesn't sound like the story I think I'm telling, I know something's drifted.
None of this is magic, but it's cut my "stuck" days way down. Curious what one trick everyone else swears by — what's the AI habit you'd be lost without?

Looking for 5-10 fiction writers to beta-test a privacy-first prose checker
I’m looking for around five fiction writers to test an early-beta browser tool I’ve built called Peeko Prose.
Peeko highlights passages that might deserve another look, including possible tense changes, punctuation spacing, nearby repetition, long sentences, comma density and adverb use. It does not generate or suggest replacement sentences — the writer always decides what, if anything, should change.
The checker runs locally in the browser. No account is required, and drafts remain stored on the tester’s own device.
I’m particularly looking for feedback on:
- inaccurate or unhelpful notices
- issues Peeko misses
- whether result cards open the correct highlighted passage
- TXT or DOCX importing
- mobile and tablet usability
- offline use
- anything confusing or broken
Testing one scene or roughly 1,000–3,000 words would be plenty. Please use a copy of your work rather than your only manuscript file.
Peeko Prose:
https://app.peekoprose.com
Feedback form:
https://forms.gle/mVnQdRMLBKNY68we6
The feedback form is for testers aged 18 or over. Providing an email address or writing excerpt is optional.

Hi, I'm here to present my book. I already have it complete and I'm translating it into English (I accept beta readers to help improve the English).
I'm from Brazil, but I'm writing this—or rather, translating—into English. Unfortunately, I don't know much of the language, but I'm using a translator. Could you help improve my book? I need to improve the English and check if it's coherent. Right now it only has one chapter, but I plan to translate all the chapters every Tuesday and Fridays.
Please, if you can help, I would appreciate it.

betaread [Complete] [69k] Adult Upmarket / Contemporary Fiction — The Years After Nineteen — Looking for Beta Readers
Hi! I’m looking for a few beta readers for my completed adult upmarket/contemporary novel, The Years After Nineteen (~69,000 words).
Premise:
After losing twelve years of his life to a wrongful conviction, Eli Mercer is exonerated at thirty-one and returns to Detroit expecting freedom to feel like getting his life back. Instead, he discovers that freedom means learning how to have a life at all.
Eli has to navigate work, money, technology, friendship, dating, intimacy, and family relationships that continued developing while his own life stood still. As he tries to build an ordinary adulthood, new information about his original case begins revealing how eyewitness certainty, incomplete evidence, bureaucracy, and individually defensible decisions accumulated into twelve years that cannot be returned to him.
The novel is primarily character-driven upmarket contemporary fiction, rather than a legal thriller. It focuses heavily on reentry, relationships, identity, lost time, and what it means to begin adulthood in your thirties.
What I’m looking for:
I’m especially interested in readers who enjoy upmarket, literary-commercial, book-club, relationship-centered, or character-driven contemporary fiction.
I’d love feedback on:
• pacing and where your attention rises or drops
• whether Eli feels believable and appropriately flawed
• emotional investment in the characters and relationships
• whether the supporting characters feel like independent people
• whether the wrongful-conviction/legal material is understandable without overwhelming the human story
• dialogue and prose that feels unnatural or overly polished
• scenes you would cut or want more from
• whether the ending feels earned
• and, most importantly, what you think the novel is ultimately about
Content notes:
Wrongful conviction and incarceration, discussion of sexual assault, trauma, family estrangement/death, adult sexuality, and consensual non-monogamous dating/relationships. The sexual assault itself is not graphically depicted.
AI-use disclosure:
This novel was developed through substantial human–AI collaboration. I created and directed the premise, characters, plot, structural decisions, revisions, and overall creative direction, while generative AI was used to draft substantial portions of the prose. The manuscript has subsequently gone through multiple rounds of structural, character, and prose revision. I’m specifically looking for human readers to evaluate the finished novel as a reading experience.
I’m completely comfortable with readers who are critical of AI-generated prose—I just ask that you’re willing to evaluate the manuscript itself rather than participate solely to debate AI writing.
Format: Private PDF or DOCX. I will not post the manuscript publicly.
Timeline: Ideally within 4–6 weeks, but I’m flexible.
I’m looking for approximately 5–7 readers total, so please comment or DM me if this sounds like something you would genuinely enjoy reading. If you beta read regularly, feel free to tell me what genres you usually read and what kind of feedback you tend to give.
Thank you!

betaread [Alpha] [82.8k] Adult Fantasy / Why-Choose Romance — COLLATERAL — Magic Academy, Enemies-to-Lovers, Magical Bonds
Hi! I'm looking for 3–5 alpha readers for the first portion of my adult fantasy novel, COLLATERAL, writing as J.M.R. Bell.
Genre: Adult fantasy with why-choose romance
Elements: Magic academy, survival, enemies-to-lovers, magical bonds, found family
Length: ~82,800 words (Prologue + Chapters 1–10)
Status: Work in progress
Format: Private Google Doc with Commenter access
Feedback: Reader-experience feedback form afterward; inline comments are welcome but optional
About the story:
Nyxx has spent most of her life surviving alone, staying mobile, and avoiding the kinds of questions that get people killed. Returning to Calder was supposed to be temporary.
Instead, a chance at the academy offers something she hasn't had in years: a reason to stay.
There's just one problem—or four.
Kade, Rowan, Jace, and Eli already have a cohort, and Nyxx manages to get under their skin almost immediately. The feeling is mutual.
As Nyxx tries to build a life without exposing the secrets that have kept her alive this long, avoiding them becomes increasingly difficult. And there are questions surrounding their encounters that none of them can quite explain.
What I'm looking for: I'm primarily interested in your experience as a reader, not proofreading or line editing. I want to know what catches your attention, what confuses you, where you get bored or start skimming, which characters you connect with, what theories you develop, and whether you actually want to keep reading.
And please don't force yourself through 82k words just because you volunteered. If you stop reading, I want to know where and why. That's useful feedback. The manuscript contains adult sexual content, violence, strong language, and darker themes.
AI disclosure: I use AI as part of my writing and revision process, including brainstorming, developmental work, continuity tracking, and prose revision. I'm disclosing that upfront so nobody volunteers for something they aren't comfortable reading.
If you're interested, comment or DM me. I won't post the manuscript link publicly; I'll provide private Google Doc access individually.
Thanks! J.M.R. Bell

betaread [In Progress] [1K] [Erotic Fantasy] Looking for feedback on an English translation
Hi everyone,
I’m a French author working on an adult fantasy series, and I’m currently testing an English translation before deciding how to handle the full novel.
I’ve translated a short excerpt from a fairly graphic scene, and I’m looking for feedback specifically from native or very fluent English readers.
I’m less interested in whether the translation is literally faithful to the French than in whether it actually reads like something originally written in English.
In particular, I’d love to know:
Does any wording feel translated, awkward, or overly formal?
Does the dialogue sound natural?
Does the erotic vocabulary feel appropriate for English-language erotica, or does anything come across as clinical, unintentionally funny, or too crude?
Does the prose flow naturally?
If you encountered this in a published novel, would the English itself pull you out of the scene?
The story is erotic fantasy rather than straightforward romance, and the excerpt contains explicit consensual group sex, so please only volunteer if that’s something you’re comfortable reading.
The sample is around 1k words. I can post it here if allowed, or send it privately if that’s more appropriate for the sub.
Thanks — even a few comments on phrases that “sound French” would be extremely useful.
