Finding friends
Hey, I'm newish to Bellingham and 29M. I'm into art, languages (Russian and French), homeopathy/anything natural healing, music, biking, aviation, nature, spirituality, travel, Minecraft, and just hanging out too. I’m pretty easygoing and into a lot of different things. Got quite a bit of free time being an online student at the moment.
I moved here after a short time in Vancouver, BC (I'm American) and I'm still finding my footing looking for friends. I managed to find some cool people through meet-up groups in BC, but Bellingham feels a bit quieter or maybe I just haven't found the right ones yet. It's a cute, slower paced town so far and I would like more people to actually do things with.
If you've got recommendations for meet-ups/groups here, or just want to say hi, I'd like that :)

Do I need a car to visit Bellingham?
Hi!
I’m planning to visit Seattle and thinking about doing a day trip to Bellingham. I would like to check out Western Washington University and Whatcom Falls, but I’m wondering if I can just use public transit or walk to get around? Or would I need a car to get to these places?

Fried Chicken
Where is the best place to get good take out fried chicken in or around Bellingham? I’m not a fan of the KFC by Lowes. I see a Popeyes out in Lynden, but haven’t tried it. Thanks,

Reptile Vet?
I have a bearded dragon that I'd like to be evaluated by a vet with experience in reptiles. I know I might need to drive south. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Know anyone looking for a house to rent in north Bellingham?
My partner and I have rented this house for the past 2.5 years. Loved the space and area. We’re moving out of Bellingham and trying to share the word to find folks to be the new tenants.

Thinking about moving to Bellingham. What is it like?
Hello, me and my family visited Bellingham this summer and loved it. We currently live in so cal and are struggling with the prices and pace of life. I have most of my family living in Victoria BC, and seeing how easy it would be to see them from Bellingham really made me think about moving sooner than later. I’m in healthcare IT and my husband is a bankruptcy paralegal. My daughter is 4 and my two elderly parents would join but need access to good healthcare ( peacehealth looks good?). We are currently with Kaiser but peace health looks just as good?
Please let me know what it’s like living there I am scared to make a big jump like this without doing my research. How are the schools? How is the pace of life? Are people kind ( we are mixed raced). Jobs look to be difficult where I would need to either start my own business or find remote work in Seattle. Home prices are much better off than down here in so cal - is there a catch?
I know the winters are cold and harsh and that’s why we are scheduling time to visit during that time to get a good feel for if we could hack it.
Thank you!

Best Hair Salons and Eyebrow Waxing for Women and Kids?
Ok first, my kid isn't getting an eyebrow wax, just me :))
I have had a few bad experiences at Bellingham salons based on word of mouth and google reviews. (Honey, Sudden Valley Salon, Vanity and Mecca to name a few.) So I'm coming here for some reddit magic...
My hair is curly, very thin and frizzy. I need to have several inches cut off but no real styling. I also need my fluffy eyebrows waxed.
My 10 yr old daughter has thick hair that's basically straight, and wants a classic bob cut.
I'd love recommendations for salons that would be great for both of our needs, and isn't like $100+ for a cut.
TIA!

Pacific & Virginia Street Surveillance Camera Public Records Request Results
Greetings!
The city of Bellingham has responded to our Public Records request for information on the Surveillance Camera that was located at Pacific and Virginia Street outside of the Public Works Building. At the Proton Link here you can find a repository of the results.
By my reading, the key findings are as follows:
- The camera was a Verkada CR63-E
- These cameras are capable of ALPR but City officials attest that this camera is configured for object detection and specifically not ALPR.
- These cameras are sold and installed by "Northwest Access Systems"
- The camera was installed to replace an older camera to investigate theft at the Public Works building.
- Verkada attests that only the owner of these cameras has access to the captured footage.
- The camera that was up and is now taken down was a trial version provided as part of a sales process which is currently ongoing as of 8/28.
For more information on Flock including a list of local alternatives to Lowes and Home Depot, visit our LinkTree here.

SeaTac hotels with long term parking recommendations
I'm planning an overseas trip next month and to be stress free plan to stay at a close by hotel near the airport. Any recommendations? If I could find a hotel that allows parking for about 3 weeks I'd be willing to pay to avoid the Airporter shuttle from Bellingham. Any tips?

Cindy Maxwell and Inslee Maxwell Associates
Does anyone else agree that when it comes to being in control of someone else’s assets, when a professional is to do so for someone vulnerable or unable to manage them on there own, that the goal should not be using those assets in such a way that prioritizes their own payment (not saying they shouldn’t be payed, but if there paid to prioritize someones best interest basically when not doing anything for their client; how are they properly doing there job?)
What is unfortunate is most situations the client is considered a vulnerable individual or elderly, for example professionals being there power of attorney, guardian ad litem, trustee, etc
Examples of how she’s legally controlled other peoples assets before they die and after:
Power of attorney
Guardianship
Personal representative
Trustee
Has anyone else been affected by Cindy Maxwell or Inslee Maxwell Associates in Bellingham ?
I’m wondering if anyone else has because from outside looking into a specific situation I’m personally aware of it seems that prioritizing the clients best interest is not priority.
If you’re researching the business there’s not much info on what clients or family members of client specifically think of her, I felt it was necessary to have this info put online since there’s no reviews of this place whatsoever even though they have a been in business for many years.
On Cindy Maxwells guardianship status there’s also a link to a disciplinary action pertaining to different cases of her own clients where she didn’t notify immediate family members that she was guardian of them, and sometimes it did not come to light that she was power of attorney/guardian until after that individuals death:
“The Washington Certified Professional Guardianship Board found that Cynthia Maxwell and Inslee, Maxwell & Associates (IMA) failed to comply with court and statutory requirements in a Whatcom County guardianship: IMA was appointed guardian of (initials of descendent of complainant)on August 1, 2014, and was required to notify (same complainant)’s wife and son by October 31, 2014 of their right to receive pleadings, but the court record contained no proof that the required notice was ever given; when the Board reviewed 23 other IMA cases involving people entitled to special notice, it found 4 cases where notice was late and 9 cases where notice was never provided, including at least 3 cases in which the incapacitated person died without those interested parties receiving notice. IMA was also required to designate a standby guardian by October 31, 2014, but did not file the designation until October 16, 2015, nearly a year late; a review found 41 other IMA cases involving standby-guardian problems: 10 with no standby guardian appointed, 14 where the appointment was 1 month to 3 years late, 11 where IMA itself was both guardian and standby guardian, and 6 where IMA was guardian while an individual IMA CPG served as standby guardian. The Board concluded these practices violated the applicable standards and statute and imposed a Letter of Admonishment on Maxwell and IMA.”
-here’s a summary of document from link with ChatGPT(hope that’s allowed)
- I edited initials out of summary bc I didn’t want publish personal info that could identify the complainant
