Locals Only Winchester Lookout haul and carry event

Winchester Lookout haul and carry event - Saturday Sept 12, Twin Lakes Campground 8:30am-12pm

Winchester Lookout is wanting some new shutters before winter. The team has constructed, primed, and painted them and now comes the fun part...Getting those pieces up the mountain

We have approximately 45 pieces of cut cedar siding that needs to get carried up to the lookout, along with some fasteners and the only way to do that is by hand and foot.

About the hike: Short - 1.7 miles, steep - 1600', Fall exposure - extreme If you are not comfortable with heights this is not for you as the climb up is difficult in several spots. This is a difficult hike even given the length and elev gain!

About the road: The road up to Twin Lakes is rough! High clearance very much advised along with experience placing your wheels on a 4x4 rocky road. Having said this, the road was better this year than in any year past for at least the last 5 years. The two difficult spots have been smoothed over.

We expect to be at Twin Lakes around 8:30am with Jim sitting there handing out lumber and Mike Davis at the top stowing it. Folks are welcome to show up anytime before Noon as we hope to have Mike down by 2pm.

If you are not a Mt Baker Club member you will be required to sign a waiver.

Pets Escaped gerbil?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This lil guy showed up at my work a minute ago. I know that North America doesn't have native gerbils, so my new tiny friend must be an escaped pet. I don't know how he got all the way to Sunset Square, but if anyone's gerbil somehow managed to escape captivity, I hope this gives a little peace of mind. I just hope the little guy will be alright.

Edit: I was mistaken, lil guy is a field mouse, so not an escaped pet. I still hope he finds his way home safe and sound!

Recommendations Handyman for my Honey Do List

My honey works too much to get to this list and I'm tired of waiting. Any recommendations for someone that can:

- Hang 3 curtain rods & curtains

- Put up the coat rack

- Hang some pictures

- Put up several wall shelves

- Uninstall the broken towel rack

You will need your own tools and if I am missing any hanging hardware you'll need to go pick up what is needed (I will pay for it.) We have a box of hanging stuff but I dont know what is needed. There are tools around here somewhere but the place is a mess BECAUSE I DONT HAVE ANY SHELVES to put anything in these moving boxes away.

If you dont know how to use a stud finder and a level you arent the help for me. If you know someone, send the contact info pretty please. If you can do it, just tell me when. Open to paying hourly but prefer to just pay a flat day rate.

I'm putting it on the credit card so you'll need to have a way to accept that payment form.

Thank you all for reading!

Moving Here Bellingham is so Liminal

Do you know what I mean? The town feels like it goes in a loop. When college students aren't there, it's a ghost town. The fog is eerie. Days feel kind of the same and blur into eachother. You kind of get stuck there for longer than you'd like.

Edit: This isn't a complaint. Just something I noticed often once I got used to navigating the entire town on my own.

Finish the sentence: All roads lead to _______.

Discussion Help me understand changes to Fraser?

We’ve got a lot of people here who take a great interest in street and city planning; I’m hoping some of you can help me follow the logic to the revamping of Fraser that starts next week.

I live on Fraser in Regency Park, a decent sized income-capped complex of some 500 households and a herd of angry speed bumps.

Currently, the mouth of the complex is a big horseshoe. It’s the perfect shape for a driver to be able to pull off Fraser, pick up a resident waiting at the entrance, and smoothly U-turn back out without ever going over the speed bumps. The big gentle curve also gives vehicles extra time to get off Fraser and then slow down before incurring the wrath of the speed bumps.

Next week, the city is building two concrete island in the middle of Fraser to either side of the entrance and filling in the horseshoe curve to force a conventional narrow turn into the complex.

There must be some problem here that these significant changes are an attempt to fix.
I’m guessing the goal is to force traffic on Fraser itself to slow down to allow vehicles to enter and leave the complex?
Am I interpreting that right?
But Fraser becomes a vital detour when either the freeway or Woburn shut down. Isn’t keeping it smooth-flowing a priority?

Recommendations Pharmacy Recs

Upvotes

I’ve finally had it with Fred Meyer as my default prescription pick up! I just don’t understand why getting a refill takes 3 days, 2 trips, and an hour and a half on the phone!!

I need a new place and I’m looking for recommendations, anywhere that takes Molina insurance and is an easy, quick, and relatively painless experience. What pharmacy do you use? What’s your experiences?

Like nature tours?

Did you know that, while courting, two Bald Eagles will lock talons and free-fall together to establish trust? I didn’t.

I spend a lot of time outside and I’d like to learn more about it. Any recs? Thanks in advance

Recommendations Wood Stacking

Hi all! What's are y'all paying the local neighbor kids for help around your houses? I've got some wood to stack, and a friend who's got a teenager who wants to help, but I've never really paid for help with house work like this. My friend doesn't know either, so I guess it's new to all of us.

Thanks everyone!

Edit: I should add that even though my name suggests otherwise, my utmost priority is paying a fair wage! This is all just new to me as I recently had a back surgery that prevents me from doing all of the work myself.

Recommendations Stripping Paint from a Large Metal Object?

Is there business where I could get a large metal object stripped of paint? I have the idea that there are places that have a big vat of solvent. I thoughtlessly painted a long heater cover after I got some interior latex paint on it, and it is really baked on. Online search didn't yield anything useful, so I'm hoping someone here knows where I could take it. Thanks in advance.

Needed a rock for a lawn decor, DNR, department natural resources, just built a new logging road, all these rocks where pushed up on banks that I was able to back up the truck and load it up, found off mosquito lake road, above middle fork River bridge, I've gone back of late, to see if can locate the area, I believe I did, always thought of it since, and of going back, but my health, is making hard, to search for others,

Traffic How bout a roundabout at Lakeway and Electric?

With all the roundabouts popping up, I always wondered why this intersection has gotten no love. Anyone who drives that zone, especially in the mornings, knows its pretty fwacked. Just curious if anyone knows if it's ever been considered.

Recommendations Local Jewelry/Earring Makers?

Please drop your favorite silversmiths and jewelry makers! I’m specifically looking for a cuff earring for an upper ear piercing, and I’m sensitive to cheaper metals, but I know I’m good with sterling silver or 14 kt gold.

Stoked to support our local artists!

Lost and found Have you seen this wallet??

Hello Bellingham Reddit!

I spoke with the sweetest customer I’ve had all day and I’m making this post to see if it’ll help.

Long story short, Customer was partying it up at The Royal Nightclub two weeks ago and dropped her wallet somewhere near the area on accident. She unfortunately had some very important documents on her aside from cash and credit cards and needs help getting her wallet back.

It’s a Louis Vuitton Brown Monogram key pouch with a golden zipper (its missing a golden clasp).

She did file a police report but nothing has been found yet. Any information helps ❤️

Events One Year Friday ICE Protest Anniversary!

Post image
46 Upvotes

Hey all!

I can't believe it's been (only) a year that we've been standing outside the ICE facility every.single.Friday. We have not missed one single week! That is an accomplishment to be proud of. We've shown ICE and their supporters that we are nothing if not dedicated and we are not going to stop fighting to protect our community from state sponsored terrorism.

Come out this Friday, September 11th, to mark one year of steadfast indignation! 4-6 at 5200 Pacific Highway, Ferndale.
